PHIL ADELPHIA TATTOO ART S CONVENTION Philadelphia Convention Center February 10th-12th, 2012

A few from our crew (FLBNY) went down to check-out the Tattoo Arts Convention. The featured artists were Tattoo Tony Rodriguez (Under My Skin), Amy Nicoletto (LA Ink), and from New York Ink – Megan Massacre and Chris Torres (previously NY Ink). The place was packed. We even ran into WWE Wrestler – Gene Snisky. Tattooing was going on everywhere with people showing off their designs in a Tattoo Competition covering several categories. Enigma (Puzzlepiece full body tattoo) swallowed a sword on stage and really got the crowd going and, of course, with the few hundred booths at this convention, that kept the crowd pretty busy, too. I got 3 tattoos myself!!! A lot more to follow with a photo spread in FAST LANE BIKER Pennsylvania’s April Issue. Check it out!!!! by Brian Gage

THE WELL WORN VEST by MarySusan Williams-Migneault

Old man... Your vest is well worn - It has seen better days, Like when it hung beside your bike In the middle of the living room The leather still strong and street black. Old man... Your steed has carried you far Through wind and rain And narrow pass roads Hidden in winter’s whiteouts Or clicking and cranking down While you both rested In summer campgrounds Beside rivers and hills A day’s journey up ahead... Old man... Your memories are packed In saddle bags and photos Of bike runs to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, While the horizon of Connecticut Held you steady with traces Of your Yankee family ties And roads that brought you back Again and again. Old man... Your life has twisted into knots So much lost, never to be replaced A mean streak fills in the spaces Left by roads that just led nowhere Rusting your chrome and stripping love From your heart like a thief in the night Old man... You have forgotten

On the farm lived a chicken and a horse, both of whom loved to play together. One day, the two were playing when the horse fell into a bog and began to sink. Scared for his life, the horse whinnied for the chicken to go get the farmer for help! Off the chicken ran, back to the farm. Arriving at the farm, he searched and searched for the farmer, but to no avail, for he had gone to town with the only tractor. Running around, the chicken spied the farmer’s new Harley. Finding the keys in the ignition, the chicken sped off with a length of rope hoping he still had time to save his friend’s life. Back at the bog, the horse was surprised, but happy, to see the chicken arrive on the shiny Harley, and he managed to get a hold of the loop of rope the chicken tossed to him. After tying the other end to the rear bumper of the farmer’s bike, the chicken then drove slowly forward and, with the aid of the powerful bike, rescued the horse! Happy and proud, the chicken rode the Harley back to the farmhouse, and the farmer was none the wiser when he returned. The friendship between the two animals was cemented: best buddies, best pals. A few weeks later, the chicken fell into a mud pit, and soon, he too, began to sink and cried out to the horse to save his life! The horse thought a moment, walked over, and straddled the large puddle. Looking underneath, he told the chicken to grab his dick and he would then lift him out of the pit. The chicken got a good grip, and the horse pulled him up and out, saving his life. The moral of the story? When you’re hung like a horse, you don’t need a Harley to pick up chicks. ☼☺☼☺☼☺☼☺☼☺☼☺☼ JUST SAY NO! A ten year-old boy was walking down the street when a big man on a black motorcycle, pulls up beside him and asks, “Hey kid, wanna go for a ride?” “No!”, said the boy, and he kept on walking. The motorcyclist pulls up to him again and says, “Hey kid,, I’ll give you $10 if you hop on the back” “NO!” said the boy and proceeded down the street a little quicker. The motorcyclist pulls up to the boy again and says, “Ok kid, I’ll give you $20 and a BIG bag of candy if you hop on the back for a ride.” At this point the boy turns around to him and screams angrily, “Look Dad, YOU bought the Honda, so YOU ride it!!

As we all start thinking of firing up our iron horse for the upcoming riding season and praying she’s going to start with no issues. You unhook the battery tender, turn the gas on pump the throttle a few times, “for us with carbs still” hit the start button and the damn thing does not want to run, or the carb starts pouring gas out the overflow. Yep, ethanol got ya! One our most frequently encountered problems these last few years, is the issue of “bad gas”. We had more fuel related problems ranging from poor starting, rough running, bad performance, etc. to “it just quit and now won’t restart”. Ethanol has been the leading problem which results to all of these issues. Here are a few important things you should know about ethanol. Four problems with ethanol blended fuel: -fuel stability -water/phase separation -debris in fuel such as gum/varnish -power loss/poor combustion/poor mileage Gasoline is made of many different hydrocarbon molecules. Ethanol causes unstable hydrocarbons which attract oxygen. Left untreated gas results in oxidation, which becomes moisture in your tank. Gum and varnish begin to form as the fuel ages, reducing the quality, evaporates, and becomes stale. Ethanol can also dissolve plastics, rubber, and even fiberglass. It also has been the source of many catastrophic engine failures, especially with two strokes. It will clog up the jets in the carb leaning the system out resulting in detonation- total melt down. Nine times out of ten when you have fuel pouring out the overflow, the float needle valve is stuck, caused by ethanol gumming it up, not allowing it to move freely in the bowl. Ethanol is a member of the alcohol family which is produced by vegetable matter, not just corn! Ethanol cost more a gallon to produce then regular gasoline. It makes the life of gasoline storage shorter even with the use of stabilizers. Ethanol has 30% less BTU’s (British thermal units) than gasoline, which we all know what that means less performance. Today’s gas has an average of 10% ethanol in it which produces 3% less power with the same jetting. To get the most out of ethanol treated gas (shit fuel as what we call it) many things need to happen: compression ratios, cam timing, ignition timing, and jetting or remapping the fuel system. So if have a choice

at the pump do not use ethanol-blended gas....Read the pump!! Buy your gasoline at a named brand station, if they are still able to sell non ethanol treated gasoline. Your neighborhood convenience store usually buys from a broker, so for you with no clue what that is, that means the gas is purchased by price not quality (spec). The pumps that say “may contain up to 10% ethanol”, that can be a bit of bull-shit, it may legally contain up to 20% by law, allowing for “error.” We use and sell a product called “Star Tron” which cures ethanol problems. The company claims it stabilizes gas for up to two years, improves performance, removes gum, varnish buildup, and helps prevent phase separation. There are many other companies out there now that are producing a similar product. Such as Amsoil, lucas, and stai-bil which are all well-known products. We have always used the one in a blue bottle: “star tron”. Don’t fix what isn’t broken! Write your elected representative and tell them to get there slimy hands out of your pockets and quit forcing us to buy ethanol!! Oh yea....and all their wonderful ideas and shitty laws, they can stick up their ass!! Here are some pictures of what ethanol has done to carbs, a snowmobile cylinder, and piston. Also, I’ve attached one with a jar of gasoline with ethanol in it, as you can see the separation and how it turns right to water.

SYRACUSE SUPER SWAP MEET The Syracuse Super Swap Meet took place Feb 11th-12th at the NYS Fairgrounds. This is the largest indoor swap meet in Central NY. The event this year brought to you by County Line Choppers, Middle Earth Leatherworks and Rabin Law Firm. The temperatures were cold but the deals inside were hot! The meet was very well attended with the need for shuttles running through out the day to bring people from their cars to the Center of Progress building where the event was held. You were able to see classics to choppers and everything in between. Bourget, County Line Choppers and Satan Cycles were well represented. Satan Cycles had an air powered bike with them for all to see! It goes to show you that with some imagination anything is possible. Vendors ranged from motorcycle parts to leather and patches. The MC clubs were well represented at their respective booths. Rob’s Cycle had Chelsie Aryn from the Parts Dolls signing posters. The Illustrated Lady from Rome, NY had a well appointed booth of apparell and accessories. But the star of the weekend were al of the parts and accessories to build or customize your bike.

You can be in magazines. At first, I was extremely reluctant to write this month’s article, because the competition is already tougher than titanium. In any case, there is a demand for this information. There is no denying that many messages I receive ask about getting published in tattoo magazines. Since I am a bit of a professional on the subject, and the information isn’t exactly family secrets I should take to the grave, I am pleased to share with my sexy readers. The first requirement is a no brainer. YOU MUST HAVE GREAT TATTOOS! Do not kid yourself. If your tattoos are not worthy of mass recognition, magazine editors will not overlook that. If you pass that first qualification, you might have a shot. One suggestion I’ll offer is to attend tattoo conventions. Talk to the people carrying nice cameras, tactfully see who they work for, get your picture taken by them, and cross your fingers. Keep in mind that tattoo convention coverage within magazines often does not credit model names. However, it still counts as being published, and some magazines have been known to use photos taken at these events as their cover image. It is up to you to look for yourself in the publications though, as photos of this nature do not warrant any notification. This brings me to the more involved path to publication. Connecting with the magazines personally. Purchase and browse tattoo magazines and their websites. There are dozens of them, be prepared to do some work! Try a google search for “tattoo magazines” and try not to get overwhelmed. Take note of pertinent e-mail addresses for each magazine or look for specific instructions on how to submit photos directly; some include them, some do not. Also, write down the names of the photographers who appear frequently. Now this is crucial: get your pictures taken professionally - include professional hair and makeup artists. Unless you are pursuing modeling (in which case, visit modelmayhem. com to learn about other options) you will need to hire a photographer who understands the type of photos you are looking for (typically a studio setting with lighting that focuses on your ink). Research those photographers you wrote down earlier. If you can travel to any of them, contact them about setting up a photoshoot for magazine submissions. If you hire a photographer who does not have prior magazine connections, your chances of proper consideration will be reduced. Make sure you get the photographer’s permission to submit the photos, then utilize the submission information you collected earlier. Most magazines will not print photos that have been released before, so fight the urge to post any online until you have exhausted your connections. If no one grabs up the first set of photos, go ahead and put them all over facebook, then get new photos taken. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
