Bike nights are back at the Tack Room Bar on Long Island. Check it out for its great people, trophies, food, awesome bikes, bands and coverage in the magazine. We have changed the event to the 4th Thursday of each month, so please make note of the change. We are pleased to announce the new home for the Albany Bike Nights, The Roadhouse Grille, which will be held the last Thursday of each month. James, the owner, can’t wait to get going! A young woman goes to her doctor’s office, afraid of the strange development on the inside of her thighs . . . a green spot on the inside of each. “They won’t wash off, they won’t scrape off and they seem to be getting worse.” The doctor assures her he’ll get to the bottom of the problem, and tells her not to worry until the tests come back. A few days later, the woman’s phone rings. Much to her relief, it’s the doctor. She immediately begs to know what’s causing the spots. The doctor says, “You’re perfectly healthy - - there’s no problem. But I’m wondering, is your boyfriend a Harley guy?” The woman stammers, “Why, yes, but how did you know?” “Tell him his earrings aren’t real gold.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Biker and The Bridge A man on his Harley Davison was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, God said,’ because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.’ The biker pulled over and said, ‘Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.’ God replied, ‘Your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.’ The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, ‘God, I wish that I, and all men, could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she’s thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing’s wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try to help, and how I can make a woman truly happy. God replied: “You want two lanes or four on that bridge?”

Justin Guynup is a master certified Harley Davidson technician through Harley Davidson University. He has opened his own shop in Granby, NY. He has given it the name Granby Cycles. Justin attended AMI in Daytona, Florida and has continued to keep up with the latest techniques and information available by taking further classes whenever possible. He worked for Performance Harley of Syracuse, NY for 10 years before moving on to Geneva Harley of Geneva, NY, where he was the lead technician for 3 years. Justin looks out for all of his customers and takes a personal interest in each one, and is a strong supporter of United States veterans. Working alongside him at Granby Cycles is Steve Price, a recent addition to the team. On February 27, 2011 Granby Cycles celebrated with a chili cook-off. There were several chili recipes judged throughout the day. Live music was performed by Guynup & Will and raffles were sold. Hundreds of people came out to support Granby Cycles. Cash prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the chili cook-off. Currently Granby Cycles has been performing routine maintenance and had many customers requesting cam support upgrades and engine build-ups. This winter they also provided winter storage for 27 bikes and trikes. Justin and Steve are planning to begin construction of customized bobbers and trikes. They are very excited to try out something new. In the near future, Granby Cycles is planning a formal grand-opening and a swap meet. So Stayed tuned and we will be bringing you a lot more from this Great Shop.

BILL INTRODUCED TO BLOCK MOTORCYCLE-ONLY CHECK-POINTS MARCH 3, 2011

On March 3, 2011, Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) introduced H.R. 904. This bill would prohibit the Secretary of Transportation from providing grants or any funds to states or local governments to be used for any program to create motorcycle-only checkpoints (MOCs). In addition to Sensenbrenner, Reps. Tom Petri (R-WI) and Paul Ryan (R-WI) are original cosponsors. Because MOCs are discriminatory and have not been proven effective, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) strongly supports H.R. 904, and urges motorcyclists to take action to assure passage. The AMA needs your help to contact your Representative immediately and urge them to cosponsor this legislation. This bill came about in response to the Motorcycle Law Enforcement Demonstrations Grant (DTNH22-10-R-00386) program administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You can view the grant notice here. Initially begun in New York State, the process involves establishing checkpoints in which only motorcycles are pulled over and subjected to a series of inspections. As you may know, the state of Georgia was the only state to receive a grant in the amount of $70,000 from the NHTSA program to create MOCs. The grant will be used to conduct one or more roadside motorcycle-only checks in accordance with what was outlined in the Request for Applications. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) will oversee the day-to-day operation of the program. On October 26, 2010, the AMA sent a letter to Georgia’s former Governor Sonny Perdue requesting he suspend the implementation of the grant until questions raised by the motorcycling community are addressed. The former governor did not respond to AMA’s letter. Therefore, the AMA sent another letter, dated February 15, 2011, to Georgia’s newly-elected Governor Nathan Deal. To see AMA’s letter, click here. The AMA cautions riders traveling through the state of Georgia that the GSP may mobilize the MOC before, during and after Daytona Bike Week. In addition to the letters submitted to the past and present governors of Georgia, the AMA has questioned the potential discriminatory and legal nature of this program and submitted a list of questions for clarification to the New York State Police. To date, New York authorities have not responded. The AMA also sent a letter to the NHTSA Administrator David Strickland urging him to suspend the grant program until questions have been addressed. Additionally, on September 30, 2010, Sensenbrenner, along with some of his congressional colleagues, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The congressional letter urged LaHood to suspend the grant program that would expand the highly criticized practice of creating motorcycle-only checkpoints by law enforcement agencies. The AMA strongly supports this important letter. To see the congressional letter, click here. The AMA believes that the primary source of motorcycle safety is in motorcycle crash prevention and not in arbitrarily pulling over riders and randomly subjecting them to roadside inspections. The NHTSA should focus on decreasing the likelihood of crashes from occurring in the first place. The methods used in New York State and possibly Georgia remain highly suspect and no public money should be applied to promoting such a program without first addressing questions from the motorcycling community. Specifically, how do MOCs increase the safety of motorcyclists? Where do the selected states draw their authority to conduct MOCs? Will “probable cause” be required to stop a motorcycle under the terms of this grant program? If so, what will constitute “probable cause?” What types of infractions were recorded by New York law enforcement officials at these checkpoints? What criteria will be used to determine if the MOCs are successful? Do states have the jurisdiction to inspect vehicles registered in another state? And, how was the safety of motorcyclists improved by the use of MOCs? This bill is critical to ending the discriminatory practice of MOCs. The motorcycling community needs you to contact your Representative now to ask them to cosponsor H.R. 904 to end funding for MOCs. Just follow the “Take Action” option to send a pre-written e-mail directly to your Representative.

Favorite aspect of bike: My goal was to build a bike with a very pleasing overall look, to have nothing that really jump out at you or looks out of place. It is possible to have too much chrome on a bike so I was careful to limit it and had some chrome parts stripped and powdercoated black instead. It’s the small details that give a bike character. Some of the things people notice initially are the seat, the fat rear tire, and the powdercoated coil cover. My favorite aspect is when people ask “who built it” or “where’d you buy it”, and I can honestly respond with “I built it and I ride it.” I spent 3 years out in my garage struggling, sweating, bleeding

Carolyn is 30 years young and comes to us from Trenton, NJ. She is an asspiring model and is very into fitness, lives on yoga, pilates, and Budodkon. Shop Hours: Mon - Sat: 12-10 PM Sun: 12-5 PM When you walk into Tony’s shop you immediately get a feel for what his life has been like over the past 6 years since hooking up with friend Bret Michaels, of Rock of Love, Life as I Know It, and the group Poison. Guitars, basses, pictures of stars, bands, wrestlers, articles about his work and shop abound in the immaculate waiting area. The tattoo stations area big and spotless, and when you enter Tony’s room, filled with memorabilia, more guitars, drums sticks and great art work, you get the feeling this guy has been very busy! I sat down on this day for my Tattoo Tony Sugar Biker skull tat and we talked about what he has been up to, what he has coming, and how he came to get there. After spending most of the 80’s and 90’s at an Asbury Park tattoo shop cutting his teeth, he decided a change of scenery was needed so he opened up a shop in Tennessee’s Bible belt, surround by 3 churches. One of the pastors even had some ink from Tony. After a couple of years he headed down to Ocala, Florida and opened up another shop and spent some time in the sun. After a few years, this Jersey-raised guy headed back home to Asbury Park, NJ and opened up Dark City Tattoo. One day out of the blue he received a phone call from Bret Michaels who had seen one of Tony’s works of art on a mutual friend and ask him to come out to his home in PA. They hung out for the weekend and former body guard Big John even got a Tattoo, then they parted ways. A few months later Bret was playing in Seaside Heights and decided to call his new friend to come give him the tattoo they had spoken about, so Tony headed down and inked Bret minutes before he hit the stage. The rest, as Tony says, is history. He moved his shop to Atlantic Highlands up the highway from Asbury and dug in for one hell of a ride so far. The shop is doing great, and Tony has been featured on Bret’s show ‘Life as I Know It’, has his T shirts, shoe line, and new drink called Tattoo Tony’s Hard Iced Tea. He is on the Rockin Ink Tour with the band Modern Superstar, has been filming his own reality TV show and is raising his son as a single dad. This man is doing it all! Tony is a genuine person and good soul, always there with a smile and great attitude about life. We have become good friends and have done business together and I can’t think of a nicer guy on any level. This is one guy who has worked hard, done the right thing and deserves great things to come his way. When he finished my tattoo, it looked fantastic! Submitted by: Alice Daly, PA Ingredients 1 (16 ounce) package dry 15 bean mix for soup 1 bay leaf 1 pound bacon 1 pound ground beef 1 pound kielbasa sausage, sliced 1 onion, chopped 1 green bell pepper, chopped 1 red bell pepper, chopped 2 (10.5 ounce) cans chicken broth 1 (16 ounce) bottle hickory flavored barbeque sauce (such as Open Pit) 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1/3 cup honey 1/4 cup real maple syrup 2/3 cup bourbon whiskey 3 tablespoons coarse-grain mustard Directions: Rinse the beans, and place in a very large pot. Cover beans with water, add the bay leaf, and bring to a boil. Simmer until all of the water is absorbed, 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove the bay leaf. Place the chopped bacon in a large, deep skillet; cook over medium-high heat, stirring, until evenly browned, about 5 minutes. Drain the bacon on a paper towel-lined plate. Return the skillet to the heat, and add the ground beef; cook until the beef is cooked through and browned, about 5 minutes. Drain fat. Combine the beans, bacon, ground beef, sliced kielbasa, onion, green pepper, red pepper, chicken broth, barbeque sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, maple syrup, bourbon, and mustard in the crock of a slow cooker, and stir well to combine. Turn the slow cooker to Low heat, and cook until the beans are tender, 8 to 10 hours. Desserts from Melody and Friends: Berries ‘N’ Cream Brownies Ingredients: 1 (19.8 ounce) package fudge brownie mix 1 (8 ounce) carton frozen whipped topping, thawed 4 cups quartered fresh strawberries 1/3 cup chocolate hard shell ice cream topping Directions: Prepare and bake brownies according to package directions, using a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Cool completely on a wire rack. Spread whipped topping over brownies. Arrange strawberries cut side down over top. Drizzle with chocolate topping. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

CONCERT REVIEW: Modern Superstar, Rockin Ink Tour,

The show started off with an amazingly refreshing acoustic set in the restaurant lounge for some very special VIP ticket holders along with world famous tattoo artist and television personality Tattoo Tony Rodriguez. Belting out tunes such as Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive and Poison’s Every Rose Has Its Thorn everyone had Nuthin’ But a Good Time, another cover performed superbly. Veterans of the business Jamie Fletcher, Ryche Green and Danny Watts, all former members of successful 80’s rock bands, teamed with the talented Bill Carpenter and newcomer to the band Jordan Dirty together form Modern Superstar. My favorite of the acoustic set was the guys taking the time to sing happy birthday to the daughter of fans in the crowd. They showed their generosity further by signing autographed photos for the family and posing in several pictures with them. I think the young teens’ face was as red from being embarrassed as my hands were from clapping for the great tunes. After the acoustic set, everyone moved to the barn where the main stage was set and several opening bands had already started performing. It was a bit of shame that Walhill Farm was sparsely populated Friday night during superstar filled five-piece Modern Superstar’s opening set for Quiet Riot. Despite the small audience, Modern Superstar dove in to its set with the same enthusiasm I’ve seen the band display with larger crowds. The nearly 45-minute set encapsulated its appeal — irrepressibly upbeat sound fronted by hard-charging, instrument-switching energy. Ryche Green’s furious drumming underpins the guitars of Danny Watts and Bill Carpenter and bass of newcomer to the band Jordan Dirty, while Jamie Fletcher gives the sound its edge with his wicked vocals. Modern Superstar began their set with a su-

perb rendition of Wasted followed by a set of their own tracks from the Under My Skin Album starting with Two Months Later, Want You, Hollywood Dirty, Blue, Generation Star and the popular single which is also Tattoo Tony’s Reality show theme song Devil’s Playground. Some 15 lucky ladies from the audience, including myself, ended up on stage to help sing over the track for “Girl School” and remained on stage for “Smooth Up In ya”. The overall sound was really good considering the venue was a barn with no heat.
