Letter from the Publisher Hello “FastLaneBiker NY Family”, The last month and a half has been non-stop with rallies and events. Fast Lane traveled to Laconia, NH, for their 89th Anniversary Rally, then off to Pattersonville, NY to the Indian Lookout Country Club for “The Harley Rendezvous Classic.” This rally is one of a kind. Check out the story starting on page 14! After the Rendezvous, Fast Lane Biker headed to Alexandria Bay, NY, for the 6th Annual Thousand Island River Run Biker Rally where the Miss Fast Lane Biker New York Contest was held. Congrats to Mandy, our beautiful winner! We had a great time at all these events! There is still a lot of riding time left this year, so we will be looking for you! New York has a lot going on in August! Check out the calendar and hop on your “Iron Horse” to join in and ride along with all the great people that are having as much fun as us!

On a more personal note, Fast Lane Biker can not stress enough how thankful we are for the family members in this magazine. The advertisers are the foundation of this publication and they make it what it is. For everyone who picks up the magazine, please, go check them out, stop by their shops and thank them as well. Let them know you saw them in “Their Magazine.” We would also like everyone to meet Monty Holt and “Big Dee,” Dewitt Forbes. The newest members of the Fast Lane Team! If you see him out there, say hello and put him to work! They will be out there to join in on the family fun! See you all on the road and at events and rallies in August!

FAST LANE FEATURE... A REBIRTH OF A 1950 HARLEY - IN MEMORY OF KEN (1948-2008) The 1960’s were quite the years. The country was torn apart over the Vietnam War, electric/acid rock filled the air, free love flowed, and members of the Woodstock Nation sought mind-expansion through psychedelics. Things were changing – you could feel it inside. It was also during this era that I acquired my 1949 Harley Davidson panhead and met my good friend Ken Weisman.

When Ken and I met as teenagers, we rode small two-stroke ying-yangs and, as the story goes, rapidly found those bikes to be a bit underwhelming. A few years later, I bought and chopped/customized my first Harley. Ken was away at college when I actually obtained and rebuilt the beast and I remember riding to his home to show off the finished project when he returned. At the time, I was a 19-year-old hot-shot ready to impress the hell out of my good friend. While I thought I knew what I was doing, I barely had the hang of driving this mean machine with it’s suicide clutch, stick-shift, ape-hangers, and bald tires to boot! Not only that, but I was not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination and I had pieced this thing together with hope and a prayer. (For example, I had a bucket of cheap stove bolts in my cellar and used these to assemble the bike in haste. Erv Splitgerber, the head mechanic at the Harley dealership, Spitzie’s, took one disgusted look at the bike and immediately nicknamed me “Stovebolt Willy”)! Anyway, a ride was in order and Ken propped himself onto the pillion seat and hung onto the sissy rail for dear life. After tearing around the quiet neighborhood several times on this back-firing, smoke-belching beast, I hit some gravel while taking a turn way too fast (of course). The chopper slid out from under us, leaving Ken on the street and me clinging to ape-hangers as it spun out of control for a good fifty feet. It finally stopped about 3 yards short of a shaken elderly neighbor who was sitting on her lawn enjoying the peace and quiet of that beautiful day. After recouping and assessing the minor damages, the first words out of Ken’s mouth were, “Man, I gotta get me one of these!” He immediately began his search and, within a year, Ken found his Harley. This is where the journey of this bike, a 1950 Harley EL, began. The bike was purchased in stock condition in Boston in 1969. We rode the machine back to the Albany, NY area and, given the fever for choppers, a full rebuild was underway. Once completed, the panhead sported a 12” over glide front end, suicide clutch/jockey shift, dual-carbed heads, and a candy pearl paintjob. For a time, Ken and I formed K&B Choppers, building chops and selling custom parts, but we were distracted by other things such as college, and decided to hang it up and just enjoy riding and customizing our own machines. Ken and I, as well as a number of other good chopper jockey friends, had many memorable adventures on road trips throughout the Northeast during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. The good times rolled on and on. We thought that they would never end and that we were invincible!

“THOUSAND ISLANDS RIVER RUN” BIKE RALLY – ALEXANDRIA BAY, NY June June2929– –July July1 2012 1 2012

6THANNUAL ANNUAL 6TH

Fast Lane Biker – New York headed north on the 28th of June to the Thousand Islands River Run in Alexandria Bay (A-Bay), NY where we were greeted by Mary Compeau, the planner and organizer of the event. It was very nice to finally meet her. For those bikers who haven’t been up to A-Bay before, it’s a must see! The landscape and bay area is an incredible sight to see and Mother nature had to be there, because the weather followed right behind her! We immediately set up our booth inside the pavilion and joined a number of the members of the “Fast Lane Family.” B&M Performance Cycles, Tobacco Rd Trikes and Cycles, Heritage Cycles, Strip Club Choppers NY, Tattoo Tony Rodriguez, and Mama & Brandon were all there. It felt like a family reunion!!! Satan Cycles, Custom Vinyl FX, BikerBrand, County Line Choppers, and numerous other vendors kept the crowd busy. We met so many great people as they came through to check out the sales and tell us of their travels. It was hard to stay in one area with so much going on around the rally. The streets were lined with all kinds of bikes, trikes, and choppers with their riders who walked around them, checking them out like judges at a bike show. Down in the center of town at the bar, Downtown at 11 James, we held the Miss Fast Lane Biker – New York contest on Friday and Saturday night. Of course, the only person with the character to emcee this event, had to be Tattoo Tony Rodriguez. He had the crowd fully engaged in the contest with his one of a kind delivery! There were several contestants that strutted their stuff and kept the judges busy. When Tattoo Tony asked the contestants, “Why do you think you should be Miss Fast Lane Biker?” One of them responded, “Because I ride more than just bikes!” The crowd cheered for that answer. The winner Mandy, won a photo shoot with Bad Ass Bruiser, a creation of Brad and Merlon Rogers of B&M Performance Cycles in Massena, NY. Of course, you have already met her on the cover of this issue. The 6th Annual – Thousand Islands River Run was a blast! Great job Mary Compeau, the Chamber of Commerce of A-Bay, all the local businesses, and to the all the bikers! A special thanks to Howard “Doc” Jessmer for the photo shoot of Miss Fast Lane Biker – New York. See you all next year!!! by Brian Gage

We are well into the biking season and some of you have still not serviced your bike. No walking past it and saying it is not leaking oil, tire flat or start it and it’s not making a knock or rattle is not servicing it. How to do it right.

1) Change oil, either 20-50 Synthetic or regular 20-50 2) Change oil filter and use the right one 3) Check primary oil and change if required, and also check primary chain adjustments 4) Check tires for the right tire pressure, cracks and for tread wear 5) Check all lights for your safety 6) Check rear belt or chain for proper adjustment Proper servicing can save you a lot of money, downtime and keep you and friends safe. Also, if your not sure on how to do these, buy a book on your bike or have a mechanic that knows how to do it. Servicing done right can add a lot of life to the bike. For the winter, put some gas additive in to keep the gas from breaking down. Charge the battery full, then disconnect the battery. Doing this will help keep you from being the person broke down along the road that people have to stop for. Have a great month! Brad & Merlon B&M Performance Cycles 35

NO RAIN THIS YEAR AT THE VOUS? First and foremost, Fast Lane Biker – New York would like to thank Antoinette Potter for the opportunity to come and do a story on the Harley Rendezvous Classic 2012. Upon our arrival, we immediately walked down the hill and joined in on the Great American Motorcycle Rodeo. The events covered the Hot Dog Bite, Ride the Plank, the Motorcycle Slow Race, Tire Toss, and others. They even had a Trike Sled Pull! Now that was crazy cool! The crowd was lined up all around the fences and in the stands. Chuck Schmidt had the crowd yelling “The other side sucks” to the fans across the venue. Every event handed out ribbons first to third. One particular rider named “Free Willie,” seemed to have the crowd in his corner. He spun out in the grass after he won Ride the Plank. John D. Genereaux Sr. also won the Motorcycle Slow Race on Friday. After the Rodeo, we headed up to the area where the vendors were located. There were vendors that covered every aspect of a Motorcycle event. Apparel, motorcycle parts, sunglasses, toys, and a dyno machine were only a few of the numerous vendors attending. There was even a booth with animals from Jungle Habitat Inc. including a baby lion, bobcat and boa constrictor. The Antique Bike Show had some beautiful Indians and Harleys from the early days and the Custom Bike Show brought in some bikes, trikes, and choppers that stood alone in the custom world when it came to the paint, design, and uniqueness. The bike show fans filled the area as they checked out the entries. As the afternoon passed the stage opened up to “Cousin Jake.” They came, they played, and they mastered every classic rock song that came out of the speakers. Following Cousin Jake, came a tattoo contest where the judges selected from different categories such as full back, and sleeve design for the men and women, and as usual, the crowd joined in on their selections in a group effort. “The Outlaws.” took the stage and played all their classic tunes and rocked the hillside. The crowd would agree that it was an outstanding show. continued……

What is a Harley Rendezvous Classic without the crowd? It would just be an average biker rally, The crowd that attends this Classic event is “one of a kind.” Where else can you go in the state of New York and see the character based crowd as unique as this? You can’t! A few of the crowd members wore the letters of their first Rendezvous Classic as they walked through the masses wearing ”Vous Virgin” painted on their skin. Others simply wore nothing or just a collar to stay with their owner as they carried around the one of a kind, Bottomless Mug.

The Indian Lookout Country Club spread into the camping area which was an event within itself! Each camp site had it’s own theme with objects to define it! Some a little more explicit than others, but “To each his own” and everyone had a blast! Last, but not least, Fast Lane Biker – New York would like to recognize the outstanding staff that managed and maintained this classic event. We were honored to meet the members of the staff that covered the EMT’s, security, gate entry, and the bar. My helmet comes off to you! by Brian Gage Fast Lane Biker – New York

MARINE CORPS TRIBUTE BIKE

Honor, Pride, and Brotherhood is what we think of when we hear the name Larry Tremblay. The builder and owner of the Marine Tribute Bike that tours around the country. We were honored again this year to have Larry and the Tribute Bike as a guest at Gilligan’s Bike Night on July 11th. Larry built this bike with love, sweat, and tears in the memory of his son, Joseph Tremblay and fellow soldiers who gave their lives to defend our country. Our local Police Chief, Joseph Angelino, (pictured with Larry, outside of the Howard Johnson's hotel) had also known, and served with Joseph prior to him being killed in Iraq. It is an emotional reunion for Larry and Chief Angelino, as they share stories of Joseph. There was a great turnout at bike night with many bikers and friends that gathered to pay tribute to Larry, and enjoy an evening of brotherhood.... and of course great Ice Cream! by Dana and Mike 43
