If you’re hoping to experience the vicinity of Italian culinary greatness, there’s no place in Cairo quite like La Gondola. Located in the Sonesta Hotel Tower & Casino Cairo in Heliopolis, La Gondola is an Italian restaurant that knows all about culinary magic. The ambiance of the restaurant will steal your heart; (as live Italian tunes dancing in the air with the restaurant’s outstanding performers). as live Italian tunes sang by Italian performers will be dancing in the air. The tables are adorned in lightly colored cloths and spaciously arranged with their bamboo chairs, the windows are large and overlooking a wall of plants to add more magic to your experience. Toward the end of the restaurant you will find a front of a semi-open kitchen, where you can take a glimpse at the cooks at work, and the luscious scents will torture your hungry stomach.
Since nothing says food like Italians and nothing says Italian like Risotto, the Risotto alla Milanese is a must try; it’s creamed with saffron and braised veal. If you’re a seafood lover, then the Risotto Cacciucco is the perfect choice for you with its sundried tomatoes. You will be spoiled for choices when it comes to the main course, but let’s give you our recommendations. The Filetto di Manzo Alla Griglia will steal a part of your heart; it’s a grilled beef tenderloin served with potatoes, carrot puree and veal jus! Your eyes will roll with pleasure when you give it a taste. The Piccata di Vitello is literally a trip to heaven, it’s a veal piccata with mushroom cream sauce or lemon sauce, and we would recommend the lemon sauce. To end this lovely story in a delicious way, flip the menu until you find the dessert page. Don’t miss the exceptionally creamy Tiramisù. Its portion is shareable, but honestly you won’t want to.
From Piccata Di Vitello to Salmone Al Forno, La Gondola unveils the discreet culinary secrets of Italian cuisine only for us to reap the benefits.
La Gondola is a lovely experience; the staff will make it an even more memorable one. They are extremely nice, charming and friendly; you will feel their constant focus on making everyone in the place have a good time.

Another delicious appetizer is Burrata “Frittata” Pinzimonio; fresh burrata, pesto and cherry tomatoes that will make you hum while savoring the taste.

BOARD GAMES TO SPICE UP YOUR SUMMER NIGHTS Summer is just around the corner. If you’re not into glamorous summer nights out or even like to spend summer the traditional Sahel way, just try to chill the old fashioned way around your family by the beach. Board games always seem like a great option to have fun and engage everyone after a long day at the beach. Apart from all the usual games like cards and chess, we’ve got it all under control with a bunch of board games to spice up the night.

IDENTITY BEAUTY
FREE HAIR FOR A FREE SUMMER by Omnia Essawy
Your summer haircut or hairstyle has a big say on what kind of summer you’ll have. So the choice is critical and must be made with the utmost caution. Luckily, we got your back on this one and provided you with several options; a haircut for each summer mood and every summer craze. Choose carefully because the perfect summer hair will mean the perfect summer.
THE SLICK & SLEEK We all battle with the extreme humidity throughout the summer, but never win the battle. Luckily, the “wet hair” look will end this fight once and for all. Because in this case, the humidity will actually work in your favor. And you can spend as long as you want on the beach without worrying about your hair over-sizing.
DOUBLE DUTCH BRAIDS
THE PIXIE Summer vacation is the time for liberation and freedom. And nothing says freedom better than pixie haircuts. Keep the back really short to achieve the drastic change and liberation you are aiming for, but keep the front long enough for you to be able to style it in several different styles all throughout the summer. 14 July 2019
The Double Dutch Braids are a braids dependent look with a twist. The parted down the middle hairdo adds a young and somewhat childish feel to your look. It also manages to keep all your crazy hair strides at bay. So it’s quite perfect for a long day at the beach.
SHORT & CHIN-SKIMMING BOB If a pixie is too drastic of a risk to you, then a short bob is the way to go. It is as liberating as a pixie, yet as stylish and breezy as the boho waves. And just so it happens this particular choppy bob is the “it” hairstyle of 2019.
THE BANDANA BUN Tired of the old dull buns? Nothing adds more summer vibes to your everyday practical look. Bonus point: the hair is guaranteed to stay off the back of your neck which is, let’s face it, a huge relief on a hot summer day at the beach.
BRAIDED DOWN THE BACK Another classic hairstyle that is making a huge comeback is the high up long braid down the back look. It gives the majestic vibes of the braid while maintaining the fun summer vibes and keeping the back of your neck open to the cool summer breeze.
THE BOHO MESSY WAVES A summer classic that never goes out of style. Despite the overturn happening in hairstyling over the years, the boho messy waves remain the most carefree beach-appropriate hairstyle for all hair lengths, types or colours. July 2019 15
the 2019 Summer Makeup Trends
by Omnia Essawy
Makeup is more than just pretty colours and glittery looks. It is a statement. And in preparation for the summer, you have to choose the statement that will best express who you are through sunny beach days and wild summer nights. To help you choose the statement that suits you best, we have gathered for you the best and most glamorous make-up trends of the year to choose from.
DEWY & GLOWY This year, matte is out and glow is back in. The look of the year this year -and hopefully every year- is the healthy ultra-natural glow that highlights all your best features without looking dolled up. To achieve that look, you’ll want to stay away from powder highlighters, and stick to liquid or cream luminizers on your cheekbones, brow bone, forehead, and Cupid’s bow. 16 July 2019
ARTISTIC LINER If you can’t give up your signature “black eyeliner” look, but still want to revamp your look for the summer, this makeup trend is the answer to all your beauty prayers. Playing artistically with your usual black eyeliner will give your look a whole new mystical pop and will help you feel runwayready all summer long.
GLITTERY AND BEJEWELED EYES
STAINED LIPS This originally South-Korean makeup trend is taking over EVERYWHERE this year, and we are very thankful for it. The stained or tainted lips, or “bitten lips” as some like to refer to it, has managed to combine the playfulness of the lip gloss, the mystery of the matte lipstick, and the effortlessness of the bare lips. And as a bonus, it is the easiest look to achieve because you’d be literally smudging up your lipstick on purpose.
Nothing says “ready for a beach/ pool party” on a summer night better than a hint of glitter, or in that case, a lot of it. Applying glittery or extra shimmery eye shadow to your eyelids, or just dressing your eyes with some jewels, gives your eyes a touch of starlight, while adding some playfulness and sheer joy to your whole makeup look.
SUN-KISSED So, bronzers are back in the game. And it looks as though they’re here to take over. This year the go-to look for summer outings or beach days will be the sun-kissed warm-faced look. I.e. LOADS of bronzer. To capture the “slightly tanned” look, use your favourite shade of warm-coloured bronzer liberally on your cheeks, nose, and eyelids. For an extra pop, you can mix your bronzer with an orangey-brown or a peachy blush and eye shadow for your cheeks and eyes.

Your Ultimate Guide to Fresh & Beautiful Summer Skin! by Aya Aboshady
Summer is that time of the year where you relax and let all your worries go! You can even ditch makeup for the summer in order to give your skin a rest and keep it more natural. And because we know how women worry too much about what’s going on with their skin; we are here to help you with those tips and tricks:
1.
WASH YOUR FACE, AND WASH IT AGAIN!
Sometimes, we forget how crucial this is. Washing your face isn’t just a daily ritual that you do out of habit, it actually helps your face stay clean and clear, literally. Which is why this Clean and Clear Daily Facial Cleansing Bar Soap is the ultimate solution; just keep washing! 18 July 2019
2.
BUT FIRST, WATER!
Another one of those things we unfortunately forget about from time to time. Other than preventing acne, water just gives your skin a radiant glow a million products simply can’t! Eight glasses a day is a necessity if you want to keep that face shining!
3.
HOW ABOUT SOME GREEN TEA?
Green tea is a natural antioxidant that basically does wonders! For the skin, not only does it nourish and give it a subtle glow, but it also contains Vitamin B2 and Vitamin E which keep the face rejuvenated and acne-free!
4.
5.
NOW IS THE TIME TO CLEANSE!
SCRUB, SCRUB, AND EXFOLIATE...
Cleansing the face is similar to washing it. However, cleansing works on the deeper layers of the skin. This Neutrogena OilFree Acne Wash, for instance, is ideal because it’s anti-drying, anti-blemishes and is very gentle on the skin, yet still breaks through it to deep cleanse it.
6.
ALL ABOUT ESSENTIALS: SUNSCREEN!
Scrubbing and exfoliating are essential for removing dead skin and keeping the face outstandingly clean and young. Which is why this Garnier SkinActive+ Clean Invigorating Daily Scrub will do the job just right. It will refine your pores and energize your skin with its peppermint and jojoba beads infused formula!
7.
TONE AND MOISTURIZE YOUR BLEMISHES AWAY!
Summer means Sunscreen, by default! Because there’s nothing more important than protecting your skin from the harmful sun rays; from UVA to UVB. Therefore; La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Mil Broad Spectrum SPF 60 is your go to!
The first thing that comes to our heads when we hear the word “Toner” is the Body Shop’s Tea Tree line! If you want your skin to look so visibly clear, with almost zero pores, then the Tea Tree Skin Mattifying Toner is the one for you! It’ll also remove any remaining makeup on your face.
8.
And in order to lock all of those healthy procedures in; the Vitamin E Gel Moisture Cream will go just right with everything, refresh and re-plump your face, perfectly!

USE THE MAGIC OF SATIN!
20 July 2019
Topshop
Satin is a magical fabric; it can make you look both sexy and classy at the same time. Magic we tell you! The fabric is also quite versatile, which is why we picked two options for you; the classy, and the sexy. However, both are still classy and sexy. For a classier look, opt for a satin blazer matched with black cycling shorts and strappy/barely-there heels. If you want to look sexy yet sophisticated, go for a simple satin slip dress and accessorize with statement jewelry and bag, and finish with animal print sandals.

BRING BACK THE BANDANA TOPS!
H&M
While bandana tops were huge in the early 00s, they are making a huge comeback this season. Some comeback trends might be questionable, and make us wish they stayed in the past, bandana tops ain’t one of them. They are the right amount of casual, cheeky, and complement most, if not all, body types. If you’re all for comfort but want to dress to impress, match a halter-neck top with a pair of shorts and finish with statement earrings for the ultimate party look! H&M
SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DISCO BALL! If you want to make an entrance, wear anything shiny! You sure will turn heads. But trust us, you don’t want to turn heads for the wrong reasons. If you overdo it with shiny fabrics – whether it’s through sequins or glitter – we guarantee you; you’ll be the laughing stock of the season. You can instead opt for a simple silhouette dress paired with minimalistic accessories, or stick to one shiny piece worn with a basic top/bottom. The most important tip is to keep your accessories and shoes choices as simple as possible.

The 90s ARE BACK ON THE BEACH!
by Raghda Elsayed & Taya Elibrachy
For a few seasons, the 90s has been playing a major role in inspiring fashion trends. This summer, however, it’s dominating! A walk on the beach will make you feel like you’re talking a trip down memory lane. You need to take care, however, with what to wear. You want to look like a 90s supermodel; and there is a fine line between looking like Linda Evangelista, and looking like you’re lost from a Halloween party! Here are the 90s trends that are making a strong comeback, and how to wear them.

Belted Swimwear While belted swimwear in particular is not a 90s statement, belts sure were the poster child of the 90s! This year, belted swimwear is the “it” pieces of the season; and you can get crazy with them! You can keep it classic with a one-piece swimsuit, or go bold and mix in prints (again, animal prints) and bold neon colors to go all 90s. Finish with chunky sandals

Animal prints Animal prints made their way into fashion in the mid-90s, and never really made it out. However, between then and now, it went from being a classy look, to just plain trashy. Now, it’s back to being a classic look. Whether you opt to wear it as swimwear, or a cover-up, you must pick a simple silhouette that works with both your body and the print. Regardless of what you choose to wear, mixing animal prints is the biggest fashion sin you can commit! If you will be wearing another item with your animal print, you need to make sure it is a solid colour. Black will be your safest option.

Tie-dyes
Prada
Originally, tie-dyes were fashion trends of the 70s during the hippies’ era, and were the official look for stoners. In the 90s, though, they have made their way into the mainstream and high-end fashion. We admit it; tie-dyes have always been a favorite print of ours. It’s just colorful, fun, and makes a statement. Nonetheless, you need to make sure the statement isn’t “I’m a hippie wannabe”. When it comes to how to wear them and style them, you have two options. The first option is to go all out there with a full tie-dye swimsuit. Style it with a fun hairstyle and simple flip-flops for a bold and sassy fun-look. Your second option is to keep it simple and chic using a subtle inspired look for a chiffon cover-up. If you want to follow the trend without overdoing it, you can opt for a colourful tie-dye bucket hat paired with a basic monochrome beach outfit. Bershka

IDENTITY ADVICE
I DO… DO I? by Marwa Rakha
36 July 2019
Vowing to spend your entire life with someone is a huge decision. It is hard to imagine someone not having pre-wedding jitters, and getting nervous, but how can you differentiate between simply getting cold feet before a big step from truly having second thoughts about the whole getting married deal? When should we start considering those jitters as our red flags? Here is a tough question for the one who always has our backs when it comes to relationship advice, Identity’s Relationship Expert, Marwa Rakha. 1. What are the signs that someone is having prewedding jitters? Is it frequent for people to have them? Pre-wedding jitters, or cold feet, are normal to some extent. There is a very fine line between what is normal and what is not when it comes to doubting yourself and your decision to get married to a certain person. Let’s look at it this way; imagine you have a job and you are quite stable. Imagine that one thing led to the other, and that you have an opportunity to shift your career and change your workplace. Literally, life as you have known it will never be the same. Like any sane person, you would do the math! You would weigh the pros and cons! You would calculate the risk! You would objectively estimate your opportunity to succeed! No one would feel 100% confident about such a big decision! No one would have absolutely no doubts about that step in their lives. It is totally understandable. There is so much to lose, yet so much to gain! The same applies to getting married – why wouldn’t it? No matter how well you know a person, how much you love that person and how intimate you got with that person – still you never truly shared a life with that person. Living together, sharing a bed and a home, daily friction, and making a family are scary thoughts.
will be able to find comfort and get married, or you will totally freak out and call off the wedding. It has happened before! There are also unhealthy ways of dealing with your cold feet; dismissing them, bottling them up, denying them, or blowing them out of proportion. Any of these strategies will result in a very wrong decision. 3. How to differentiate between simple pre-wedding jitters or the kind of anxiety that you should not ignore? Assuming that you chose one of the healthy strategies to address your fears, let’s look at the results. What happened when you examined the causes behind the “jitters”? Do you truly feel that you are not ready to change your life and how you run it? Do you truly feel that your partner is controlling your every breath and you hate it? Do you still feel that, deep down, you are making a mistake? Are you certain that you would rather be getting married to someone else? Are you getting married for any other reason than wanting to share your life with that person? Do you still feel that you only agree with that person in bed? Does the thought of making love to that person repulse you to the core? If you are oozing with negative thoughts like the ones I just mentioned, or more, call off the wedding! These are not just unjustified fears. These are very true reasons to prevent a crisis in the making. On the other hand, if talking about your fears with your partner, or a true friend, or yourself, result in a peaceful smile on the face of a person who feels assured and comforted, then you were having healthy doubts.
2. How to find the cause of the “jitters” so that a couple can clearly see what action is needed?
Some people find it reassuring to discuss their options if the marriage did not work out; knowing that this is not a dead end, or a trap, helps a person put things into perspective. Others agree to postpone having children for at least a year, until they settle in together as a couple. There are also those who make clear financial agreements to draw a line between what’s his and what’s hers.
There are two healthy ways of dealing with the “jitters”; first, talk about them with your partner, and second, have a self-discussion about them. Either way, you
Bottom line, the more people communicate, and the clearer their communication, the better the results, and the less the jitters.

Destination Relationships Are The New Summer Flings, But Are They Worth The Hassle? by Raghda Elsayed
Summer is that time of the year where you are allowed to escape the life you have and run away on a vacation. Whether you decide to take a trip in Egypt, or hop on a plane and visit another country, you get almost the same disconnection from reality. Now if you are a single person going on a trip, chances of meeting someone you feel like is “the one are high. Sounds like a good thing? In reality, it is bad, and can get ugly. 38 July 2019
Flings have been around for ages. They are, basically, short-term relationships, where both parties are aware of its short durations. Destination relationships, however, is a term created by frequent travellers, and popularized by travel bloggers who are always on the go. The term is very self-explanatory, which means having a relationship during your stay in a certain destination through your travels.
A fling in a foreign destination, what could possibly go wrong?
you are sure that you are saying your goodbye soon, hence, why destination relationships are always intense!
While in some cases, destination relationships might work, we can all agree that the majority of them are doomed. Dating is already hard as it is; sustaining a relationship with someone you barely know during a vacation is, most of the time, unrealistic. Even the way most people deal with both flings and destination relationships are unlike other relationships.
You are in the moment, and not worried about the future. You are focused on enjoying each other during the short amount of time – whether it’s a couple of days, weeks, months, and sometimes being just a few hours.
With that said, people still go for it, and some even seek them, knowing it will end in heartbreak. Then why do people still go for them? Everything has its pros and cons. In this situation, however, most of the pros and the cons are the same. Whether you think it is worth it or not, it is a matter of perception. Are the pros going to outweigh the cons? This is up for you to decide. You do not experience anything outside of the honeymoon phase The honeymoon phase is a part of any relationship. It ends with the first big argument. That is when you know the real person you are with, and start adjusting to dealing with each other. Many relationships end right after the honeymoon phase, but those who get past it usually start a real and meaningful relationship. Now when it comes to destination relationships, the whole fling is a honeymoon phase – literally and figuratively. Whether both parties are travelling, or a solo traveller gets involved with a resident, it leads to the same results. Someone is experiencing something new, and the other person is being influenced by this. While some might think it is healthy, due to the fact that you develop emotions fast in a healthy environment, which leads to you being more patient after the honeymoon phase, others might disagree. The reasons for disagreeing all lead to the fact that you do not get the time to know the real person, and subsequently, you cannot sustain a true relationship. This leads to the next point.
The major pro is that you kill off the mind games, since no one has time for it. The major con is that you do not get enough time to know who they really are. You are in an intense relationship with someone you barely know. You are never your true self while travelling No matter how much you try, you will always be someone else who exists just temporarily during the vacation. You do not have any life stresses, you are discovering a new place, you are outside of your regular routine, and more importantly, you do NOT have any commitments. By not being yourself, it does not affect just you, but the person you are building the “fling” with. For them, you are the adventurous person who is full of life and plans and who does not like that? The future is uncertain No matter how much you prepare yourself mentally for a fling, it is still a huge risk since you never really have control over your feelings. If you are in a foreign destination, or the partner is visiting, chances are, you might not be able to ever see them again. But even if you are in the same country, and met in another city, it’s never guaranteed that your lives in the real world are compatible. Yes, long distance can sometimes work, but without an end goal, where will it lead? You will only be investing time and energy on something that will never happen, making destination relationships the mirage of relationships.
But yet again, the future is uncertain with any relationship. The pros and cons are also the The fast hellos and goodbyes logic behind destination relationships. In most relationships, logic might not be the answer. Frequent travellers are used to this; saying your goodbyes Regardless, you will build memories that will last you just a few days after the hello. When you say this hello, a lifetime. Just make sure to adjust your expectations. July 2019 39
HOW TO HOST THE PERFECT BARBECUE Summer has come. Beach times and sun tanning days are up ahead, but no summer is complete without a BBQ! Update your status to ‘Off to Sahel’ and follow this guide to hosting the perfect barbecue in your Sahel’s garden because nothing is more valuable than having good company, food and vibes. This guide will help you brainstorm, plan and execute. Before you proceed with reading, take on what you like and discard what you don’t from this guide; abiding to all of it is by no means mandatory.
PLANNING
BRAINSTORMING
Now, comes your source of wind: the hair dryer. As simple as it seems, a hair dryer can prove to be more efficient than the wind on the beach. Don’t forget that wind can be nerve-wrecking when it comes to making a fire. Using your hand to stimulate the wind with the traditional newspaper method will take too much time and eventually numb your shoulders.
Initially speaking, the brainstorming phase is the most important one because it’s the foundation on which you base decisions that will make planning much easier afterwards. Develop a strategy in order to create a coherent process of planning and ask yourself questions that can help you set your foot on track like “Where will I have it?” Spill your ideas onto a piece of paper and let your thoughts drain. Deciding upon the venue is really important, because accordingly you would ask yourself the next set of questions. Whom will I invite to the barbecue? Friends, family or both? If you can’t decide, use the basic pros and cons approach. See which side turned out with more positives and go for it. If both sides turn out almost equal, draw a Venn diagram and widen your horizons. It’s very important to determine your guests’ age group because as I’m sure you already know, venue and age are parallel on the satisfaction axis. For example, if you’re inviting children, you would need to be extremely careful in keeping them away from the grill. An open garden with no fence or an unfinished one might prove to be problematic. Offering a childfriendly alternative menu would also be a good idea. The next question to ask is what time of the day do I want to have this barbecue? Time is also a parallel factor to venue and age. Can I have the barbecue till after midnight given that people in Sahel hardly sleep before dawn? Is the place too hot in the morning with no shady areas at all? Is there wind at night or in the morning that might cause restrictions on me? Keep all of this in mind before moving on to the planning phase. 40 July 2019
Moving on to the planning phase, if you haven’t already gotten a pen and paper, do it now. You need to write a list of the things you need to get for the barbecue. But wait, first make sure you have a grill, and that it works. If you don’t have one, make it the first item on the list, and if it doesn’t work, get it fixed. Moving on, check if you have coal and its catalyst, because if you don’t, you’ll need to make note of it as well as these are the main equipment you need for a barbecue.
Next on the list, comes the subject of grilling the food itself. It’s your choice to decide amongst the type of food you want to have and accordingly have it ready with the grill and its components. When deciding on which food you will use, decide on its complementary snacks, sauces and drinks to get the most out of the same aisle at your local supermarket. Will you use plastic disposable plates, cups, forks and knives or will you access your own tableware? If you decided to go with disposables, head to their aisle. While shopping, add board games to your cart if you don’t already have some. Make sure you buy tea, coffee and sugar. Nothing beats an aromatic cup of tea after an amazing meal. Now, that the planning phase is done with, it’s time to execute. EXECUTION Execution requires a simple checklist that covers the final touches of your barbecue. Have you thought about the type of music you would be playing if you’re going to play any? Well, music is certainly one of the items that must be on your checklist. Somewhere on the list there should be hygienic utilities. Tissues, trash cans and cleaning towels are merely examples. You would want to be instantly ready for any stains or spills.
Chairs and tables should also make it to the list under ‘set-up’; how would you set up the seating? Where will you place the grill? The set-up is very important for the image, safety and quality of the barbecue. Just before completing the execution process, take a look at some of the frequent hosts’ mistakes that mess up barbecues. COMMON MISTAKES Frequently moving the grill as a whole can cause problems. Food may get dispersed around, fire can catch to any surrounding if it’s too strong and guests
would certainly not like that. Here’s how to avoid such mishaps: Before the guests arrive, run a trail and test the grill, wind and location. When you’re happy with the setup, keep it that way until the day is over. Don’t keep changing the chef because that may lead to overcooking or undercooking of the food. Do not leave food unattended. Keep in mind that flies are hovering around so it’s better to cover the food with a plate or a stainless cover.

IDENTITY HEALTH
SUMMER ON
the edge
This is the summer for you to take the leap, the leap out of the gym and into Egypt’s amazing playground of outdoor activities. Egypt is a sizzling location for many sports that people from around the globe travel to enjoy, and here they are in your own backyard. There’s snorkeling, diving and wreck diving, bungee jumping, parasailing, hiking, sand boarding, surf boarding, kitesurfing, and the list goes on. 46 July 2019
There might be nothing more cutting edge than the growing popularity of kitesurfing in Egypt. According to the Red Sea Zone, kitesurfing is the fastest growing watersport in the world and Egypt is considered as a top training destination. It doesn’t take an extreme athlete to jump into this bandwagon, it is a beginner-friendly sport. “Kitesurfing attracts all kinds of people – young and mature, sporty and non-sporty, foreigners and more and more Egyptians. The best idea behind the sport is that anyone can learn. Initially it might seem difficult and strength requiring but it is easier than everyone thinks,” commented Lidia Kruk of the Red Sea Zone. The only thing she warned against is how addictive the activity is. “In comparison to surfing and parasailing – it is a wind dependent sport, so it gives you the greatest feeling of freedom. Once you set the sail and go into the open sea you will get a feeling of adventure, wilderness and happiness.” Kitesurfing isn’t the only activity sprinting to the forefront of everyone’s bucket list. Bungee jumping has been giving adrenaline rushes in Alexandria with Bungee Egypt, the only water touch jump site in all of Africa and the Middle East. Founder Carlo Mosca Dionisio stated that bungee jumping is even more extreme than skydiving, because at a lesser height the mind is fully aware of the reality of the ground. “We have had several skydivers jump with us and all of them attest to the fact that bungee jumping is far more extreme. The good news is that if you are able to bungee jump then you know you can now easily skydive,” said Carlo. He added, “bungee jumping is a personal test of mental stamina. it is in fact a mental sport as the jumper can be of any age (over 10), weight or body type, there are no limits... it is the most challenging activity a human being can do on this planet, it is a personal achievement.” For those of you looking for a more lengthy time commitment, Egypt is home to a beautiful combination of countless shipwrecks off the coast just waiting to be explored and crystal clear waters with high visibility. “Diving is all about the silence, the adventure, a totally relaxing atmosphere,” explained Sylvie Lanckriet, of Blue Paradise Diving Center. “The underwater world is a new world that opens for each and every diver. Some divers love reefs with the abundant and colourful fish, others love to dive on wrecks. Wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, airplanes and even bikes or cars offer a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spotting something others have missed.”With all of these incredible options, this summer is one that is going into the record books.
MAKE THE GREAT OUTDOORS YOUR GYM THIS SUMMER There is something about working out and being active outdoors that an indoor gym can never hope to replace. We like to tell ourselves that as long as we follow the perfect routine and all of the rules, we will be successful in being healthy and fit. We tell ourselves that as long as we eat the right diet, go to the gym the correct number of days, do the right sets for the right amount of reps, that we have done our duty. We don’t seem to realize that this mentality can turn us into robots that don’t enjoy the actual benefits of working out anymore. There is one easy solution to this: get outside. The wild outdoors is our natural gym. Nothing can become repetitive or mundane when every session is as fundamentally different as the weather or your geographical surroundings. There is a thrill and excitement that can only come from surrounding yourself with the unknown that will add so much to your workout. Your body will get strong the way it was meant to, by being active and having natural physical accomplishments. This could be biking that hilly terrain, or diving to that shipwreck, or reaching that mountain peak, rather than just turning your brain off while sitting on a cycling machine watching soap opera reruns. Being active outdoors offers us so much more than the sluggish mentality of the gym. The sky becomes our ceiling and the horizon our limits. This inspiring freedom makes working out outdoors so much more beneficial. WHY WORKING OUT OUTSIDE IS BETTER FOR YOU: 1. The fresh air is better for your body and mind, and will make your breathe deeper and stronger. 2. You will burn more calories because your body will have to work harder to regulate its temperature in a natural environment. 3. Your mind will get stronger as you have to overcome obstacles and solve unexpected problems. 4. You will not suffer from the boredom of a sterile gym workout. 5. Studies show you are more likely to stay committed to exercise if you regularly exercise outside. 6. You will feel more accomplished because you did something that was both physically and mentally strenuous. 7. The sun will give you a natural dose of vitamin D. 8. You will overall be happier and more positive July 2019 47
IDENTITY REVIEW
Summer
READS 2019 by Amina Moustapha
Summer is here! So whether you’ll be lounging at the beach or poolside during your next vacation, you’ll need a good book to keep you company. From thrilling psychological fiction in Speaking of Summer, to historical fiction stories like Park Avenue… here are our new favorites that are perfect for relaxing on a warm summer night.
GIRL, STOP APOLOGIZING BY RACHEL HOLLIS Many women don’t live to their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough. If you can relate to any of that, then this is the right book for you. In her self help book, Rachel Hollis gives her readers a much needed pep talk in each chapter so that they start living to their full potential and go after when they really want. The upbeat and incredibly motivating read will make you stop apologizing for being exactly who you are. 48 July 2019
THE LAST RESORT BY MARISSA STAPLEY Inspired by the romantic comedy movie, Couple Retreat, the book is filled with less laughs and more secrets. The Harmony Resort is a beautiful getaway for married couples who are on the verge of divorce, and is run by celebrity therapists Drs. Miles and Grace Markell. With the retreat full of guests, a tropical storm hits the Caribbean coastline, trapping the hosts and the guests at the resort. Secrets get exposed between every couple, trust is tested, and the illusion of Drs. Miles and Grace’s perfect marriage is called into question.
THE LAST BOOK PARTY BY KAREN DUKESS What better way to entertain your summer nights than with a dose of late 80’s nostalgia? The story follows Eve Rosen who aspires to become a writer but is stuck at a dead-end job. When she decided to go after her dream, she started to work as an assistant for a famous writer, to learn all about the world of writing. We witness her struggle, her mistakes, her triumph moments but most of all her love toward writing, which is just as refreshing as the pictureperfect descriptions of the Cape Cod beaches in the book.
PARK AVENUE SUMMER BY RENÉE ROSEN The story is part fantasy and part reality. It follows Alice, a young girl who moves from Ohio to New York City to pursue her dreams of becoming a photographer. We witness how she climbs the career ladder and becomes a secretary for Helen Gurley Brown, former editor-in-chief of the popular women’s magazine Cosmopolitan. The story will take you behind the scenes of the magazines world, and prove to you how relentlessly going after what you want is the only way to achieve anything.
SPEAKING OF SUMMER BY KALISHA BUCKHANON You can’t call it summer without a thrilling mysterious book. Speaking of Summer revolves around a woman named Autumn who is consumed with searching for her missing twin sister Summer. Everyone around Autumn, including authorities, acts indifferent to the disappearance of Summer, so her sister took it upon herself to find her. It’s a deeply moving psychological mystery with twists that come in unhurried moments like the small notes the sisters buried in bottles in their garden shed.

SALADS… AND THE SUMMER! by Soha Darwish Food writer & Critic - Menu Consultant. Diploma in Food Journalism - London, Uk
Summer is on the doorstep with its long days and nights - and all sorts of parties; beach party, dish party, barbeque party, how about a reunion party?and the list goes on. Through it all, I see the salad bowl a prominent guest in all those scenes. I’m pretty sure that by now we all developed our signature takes on various salads; however we never get tired of venturing into the new trends. Before we crack on with the recipes, I thought of sharing a few helpful tips when assembling your salad:
Please refrain from using them raw. I’ve been seeing raw mushrooms in salads lately and I still can’t get my head around it, no pleasure in that at all! • The consistency of the dressing should match the chosen leaves, for example heavy creamy dressing should pair up with robust leaves to withhold it and vice versa.
• When serving, layer it up; leaves at the base, proteins then toppings with dressing drizzled lightly • Do not complicate dressings, always the simplest to avoid turning it soggy. Mix only when you serve and highest quality ingredients go very far. There is your first guest. nothing more glorious than a drizzle of good old extra virgin oil with a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt. Now that I’ve got you covered for the whole summer, here are four mouth-watering salad recipes • Mushrooms: If you want to add mushrooms to your that you’ll struggle to pick your favourite from! salad, then either sauté, steam or grill them first.
Super Salad:
Serves 4 This is a textbook super food salad; the Tahini dressing here elevates the flavours bringing a nutty creaminess to your palate. Salad Ingredients: 150g chopped Kale– 200g roasted pumpkin cubes - 2 handfuls of toasted walnuts – 50g goji berries or pomegranate seeds – 150g cooked tri-colour quinoa -200g blanched broccolini (baby broccoli with long stalks, you can also use regular broccoli) – handful pumpkin seeds.
54 July 2019
Dressing Ingredients: 1 ½ tbsp Tahini - 2 tbsp water - 1 tbsp white vinegar – 1 tbsp lemon juice - pinch of cayenne pepper – ½ tsp Sumac – a splash of pomegranate molasses – 3 drizzles extra virgin olive oil - salt and pepper.
Smoked Salmon & Avocado Salad: Serves 2 This is always my speedy salad when I come home famished. Smoked salmon can be replaced by grilled chicken or prawns. I love the simplicity of the ingredients, different textures and the big flavours they deliver. Salad Ingredients: 100g smoked salmon strips – 1 thinly sliced avocado – ½ cup cooked white quinoa – 100g rocket leaves (rucola) – 50g grated or shavings of Parmesan cheese – 1 tbsp chia seeds – a handful of roasted almonds. IDENTITY SIGNS
CANCER
21 June - 22 July
STRENGTHS: Supportive, compassionate, unconditionally loving, clever and independent. WEAKNESSES: Pessimist, moody, bad tempered, passive, unable to let go. CAREER: Hard workers who tend to be one of most reliable ones out there. They don’t do so well in leadership positions, but they do become a great asset as part of a team.
MOST COMPATIBLE WITH AT WORK: Scorpio, Virgo, Cancer and Pisces.
VIRGO Dynamic match! Both share a love of discipline, and are happy to spend hours organizing and reorganizing charts, graphs, words…
WORK COMPATIBILITY ARIES Ruled by Mars, Aries wants to accomplish goals quickly. Cancer, ruled by the moon, prefers to make things homey before taking action. Bad match.
LIBRA While Cancer cherish their alone thinking time to be productive, Libra are all about teamwork, which sometimes refrains Cancer’s creativity and makes them feel trapped. SCORPIO A powerhouse combo. Both are water signs, with common goals much deeper than just getting their work done and going home. They are in it to win.
TAURUS Cancer’s water nature makes sure that people benefit from whatever they create, and Taurus’ bull-like drive ensures that whatever they do will be followed through to completion. Good team.
SAGITTARIUS Cancer, as a water sign, can be a little on the moody side, which dampens Sagittarius’ dynamic spirit. On the long run, a very risky match.
GEMINI They’re not quite the enemies, but they never really get around to being friends either. Both are better served working with other signs.
CAPRICORN Cancer and Capricorn are located on opposite sides of the Zodiac wheel; this is your hint on how catastrophic this match can get when things get tough.
CANCER These two will form a lifelong bond that will last longer than the job itself. A Cancer-Cancer working relationship may even feel like a little slice of home at the office.
AQUARIUS They don’t see eye to eye when it comes to their careers. Cancer needs their working life to be fulfilling on an emotional level; Aquarius requires a career using their mind.
LEO Ultimately, they will never pull in the same direction toward shared goals, and should consider working with other signs for greater success. 64 July 2019
PISCES Two water signs, which creates a harmony between them, and since there is little competitiveness or backbiting, they can get a lot done on the job and still remain friends.
