Summer season is just around the corner. The thing is, summer used to be completely different a few years back. It was all about travelling to a relaxing getaway with your family and close friends and maybe spending the night playing cards or riding bikes by the seashore. Nowadays, Sahel is synonymous of wild nights and overcrowded uncool beaches. Our Identity team decided to go nostalgic and reminisce about our childhood’s hip summers!

What do you miss the most about your childhood summers?
A’s: “I miss just having to care about being on the seashore, without the hassle of packing, driving or any related stuff!” Sandy “What I miss most is jumping and playing in the sand as a kid, when now I have to be an adult and just sit there!” Mostafa “I miss going to Aida beach and just knowing everyone there, it felt like home!” Rola “Travelling in big numbers with my whole family is definitely it! Dear Marwa, It’s summer time or wedding season which makes me feel quite desperate because my boyfriend still hasn’t proposed. We’ve been together for 5 years. All our friends are married and have kids, and the idea of marriage still hasn’t come up between us. I know that he has some commitment issues that he is working through, but I’m beginning to lose hope that he will ever propose. Honestly, I’m the type of girl who wishes to get married, have a dozen kids and settle with her love forever. So, should I leave him since we obviously don’t share the same goals?
If you decided to take my advice and tell him what you want, do not be emotional or hysterical. Do not accuse him of anything. Don’t cry, shout or frown. Don’t start any sentence with “you”. Start your sentences with “I”; “I feel that I need …” Use a “matter-of-fact” tone and choose a time when he is attentive and ready to listen. Choose a good time and talk. If he encourages you to talk further, tell him that you love him and that you want him to be the father of your children. Tell him that you want him as a lifetime partner and friend. Tell him exactly how you feel. Do not be negative and tell him that you feel that your relationship is going nowhere; help him see the happy places where your relationship could go. If he’s silent, ask him to think about it and do not give him ultimatums. If he comes back with solid fears and concerns, this is an opportunity to address them. If he tells you straight forward that he is not interested in getting married, then you can end the relationship knowing that you have done your best.

Summer heat can affect your body in so many ways. During warm and hot weather, you might experience dizziness, exhaustion and fainting. The heat and humidity combined cause you to sweat, which means you will be less hydrated. This can be avoided even though it can be 50 degrees out there, so having the perfect summer body is not only about looking good in your bikini, but actually staying healthy. EXERCISE You don’t have to go full on cardio; 15 minutes of exercise every morning and evening will do it. You can do hip-lifts, squats, jumping Jacks and planks. Four to six minutes per each routine and you’re done. This will help not only with your bikini body, but with your mood as well.

Identity would like to change this concept because, as noisy as it may be and as boring as it could be sometimes, Cairo still has a lot of hidden gems that we don’t take advantage of, as much as we should! So, this year, if all of your friends ditched you for a Sinai summer and you were left on your own in Cairo, you will have tons of activities to partake in that don’t include the words: “Mall”, “Nile” or “Khan El Khalili”.
CAIRO OPERA HOUSE The Cairo Opera House is highly underrated and doesn’t take the accolades it deserves. It hosts a number of diverse artistic acts and performances such as art exhibitions, orchestras and live band performances. So whether you’re looking for a casual night out to hear live music or you want to go the whole nine yards, dress up and be all fancy, the Cairo Opera House will cater to all your needs on a bustling night. WADI DEGLA PROTECTORATE The nature protectorate is located a mere ten-minute drive away from Maadi. It is the perfect destination for those of you who are looking for a time-away from the city INSIDE the city. The minute you enter the gates, you will be leaving Cairo’s congestion and pollution behind. Repaint your home Yep, a simple DIY fix is your key to a brighter summer! Paint your home in a soothing white or light blue colour to give it a new fresh feel. Don’t have any ideas? How about rose? It’s a happy colour! Switch to lighter fabrics and floral prints Ok, we’re not telling you to buy new furniture. All you need to do is replace your cushion covers with lighter fabrics. Go with floral and pastel colours. They will give your room a breezy vibe, and they scream summer. Add some greenery around the house Whatever you do, don’t forget to go green. Potted plants can be bought almost everywhere and they’re not expensive, so buy a few of those and put them in your balcony or reception. You’d be surprised at the amount of happiness and peacefulness they will bring into your life. Summer is a fun time for the whole family, where we find ourselves burdened with less commitments at work and school. That leads us to want to gather with our families and friends as much as we can, and share together the fun time that summer is. And since every one of us is secretly a party animal at heart, we figured we would bring you the best ideas for late summer parties! 1. Create a summerly themed table! How about a tomato cart? You can add Caprese salad and tomato tarts to the table. Sounds about right, doesn’t it? Or there is always the easy fix of getting some toast slice and adding some mozzarella cheese and just a tad of cherry tomatoes on top! Trust us, it will look good, and your guests will love it.
5. Make ethereal floating candles that ward off bugs with citronella oil Mosquitoes are everybody’s worst nightmare during the summer, so don’t let them ruin your evening and wind you up having had to end the party too soon! DIY your candles and wave those mosquitoes goodbye. 6. Add a piñata full of candies And just when you are starting to feel like your party is beginning to lose its thrill, scream that it’s piñata time. Hand one of your friends a bat and watch the fun as it grows back instantly. 7. Put snacks in a bucket and use a toy shovel as a scoop That way you get to make sure your expensive bowls are safe and sound, while actually looking cool doing it.

Complaining about this country has become quite a nasty habit, when in fact it has few of the most beautiful beaches in the whole wide world. So imagine our disappointment when we find people ignoring the beauty that exists in our very own land and travelling to far mundane places to go on vacations! Well this is the case no more, because Identity took it upon itself this month to remind you of the beauty that our beaches in Egypt withhold! 42 July 2017
1. Marsa Alam We honestly believe that Marsa Alam has two of the most mesmerizing beaches in the world. And FYI, we are not afraid to name them! If you’re wondering where to go, check out Marsa Nayzak. It’s a natural pool beach which was formed soon after a meteor hit the area. As for Ras Banas, it’s a Red Sea peninsula which offers a one of a kind adventure to divers who come from all over the globe to enjoy its marine life. Marsa Alam is also blessed with Wadi Qulaan, located in Wadi El-Gemal Protectorate.
2. Sahl Hasheesh Sahl Hasheesh is a bay located on the Red Sea coast of Egypt. It’s known for its islands, crystal clear waters and coral reefs with excellent diving and snorkelling spots. Don’t believe us? Check out Abu Hashish island; it’s a local protectorate which houses an unbelievable community of marine life. As for the climate, well, you know how they say that it’s always sunny in Philadelphia? Well, cross that off and you got yourself the real deal! With its hot dry summers and mild winters, we can easily say that it’s always sunny in Sahl Hasheesh!
3. Taba Marsa Alam and Sahl Hasheesh have already been receiving a lot of hype in the past period, but what often goes unnoticed is the beauty that Taba is. Along the coastal route from Nuweibaa to Taba, you will be amazed by the flashing blue colour of the Fjord bay located 15 km south of Taba! So make sure you pay it a visit whenever you can. 4. Dahab We personally believe that the people of Dahab alone are worthy of making this place a world class beach attraction, but for those of you who are not really convinced, check out Ras Abou Galoum protectorate located to the north of Nabq. And if you’re a fan of nature, make sure to get a glimpse of the Nubian Ibex that can only be found in mountainous areas.
5. Nuweibaa We know that we have some of the most “out of this world” beaches. What makes Nuweibaa stand out even more? Simplicity. Located far from the pollution of the industrial cities, Ras Shitan in Nuweibaa is the perfect destination to sit and reflect about the world! You will find preserved landscapes, beautiful mountains and dazzling underwater canyons, so be sure to head there this summer.
6. Marsa Matrouh When we were little kids, Matrouh was the go to summer getaway destination for our parents and grandparents. Little did we know then that we too will end up falling in love with its dazzling crystal waters and soft sands! Check out Agiba when you go there, literally translated into “Amazingly weird”. You will find yourself feeling lost in its exoticness.

e often complain at the lack of activities one could enjoy during summer in Egypt, but neglect to notice that camping is an activity most of us overlook or don’t even consider in the first place. Research shows that camping is one of the healthiest activities out there and not to mention, most fun! So why do we not engage in it more often? It is the perfect remedy for a clear head, especially in our modern lives and bustling cities. We should all be excited at the thought of taking a nature vacation to get away from it all. Camping is all about peace, love and gorgeous views, so here are some reasons why camping should be on your to-do list this summer and a list of the best places in Egypt where you can go camping.

1- ESCAPISM Unlike many other types of adventure, it is acceptable for you to do literally nothing at all during a camping trip. It is the perfect chance for you to turn off your phone and all other electronics and instead sit back, relax and stare at the beauty of the sky. You no longer need to fill up your head with day-to-day trifle worries such as what to wear to look your best, driving during rush hour, cleaning, laundry and all these other tasks that seem to consume our everyday lives. Camping gets you away from technology, from cars, from work life and from literally everything and immerses you into nature. This ensures a true escape from the hectic modern city life, and nothing on earth can rival that. So if you’re plotting an escape plan, camping is your answer. 2- IT’S A CHEAP GETAWAY Vacations, even if just for a weekend, can be crazy expensive and will leave serious dents in your wallet. Eating out, paying for the hotel room, partaking in activities can all add up shockingly quickly and you’re left wondering how you spent all of your money in such a short period of time. Camping, however, can cost as little as 100 EGP per person/night including breakfast. You can cook your own food from home and buy all you need from the grocery store before you set out on your trip, and you will be set for the weekend. 3- SUNSETS & SUNRISES We live in a city that never sleeps and are always surrounded by civilization and tall buildings. This means we’re mostly inside during sunsets and are asleep during
sunrises. But these amazing daily events are breathtaking. Just the fact that the sun shows up every morning and the moon shows up every night regardless of anything that is going on in the world is comforting and makes your heart sing. When you go camping, you are in prime territory for some breathtaking scenery! 4- THE STARS ARE YOUR ONLY LIGHTS DURING THE NIGHT If you spend most of your time in Cairo, that means there are many buildings around you and chances are you only see like five stars on a good night. When you go camping, you say goodbye to artificial light and embrace a sight that never gets old: the stars, visible in full force. You can lie on your back, contemplate the significance or insignificance of life and admire a pitch black sky dotted with brightly shining stars. You can also keep an eye out for common constellations such as Ursa Minor, Ursa Major or Orion. 5- RECONNECTING WITH NATURE Think about it. When was the last time you slept under the stars and cooked your dinner over open fire? One of the great downfalls of living in a big city like Cairo is that it disconnects us with nature. We start to perceive nature as this far-away, separate, non-human thing that we can only occasionally see but the truth is, nature is within us and is all around us. Modern society just acts as a wall between us and shields us from the beauty of nature. Camping will help dispel this misconception, that nature and us are two separate things. You will also develop a newfound love for the open sky and the outdoors in general!

No one denies that having unlimited fun gives us life experience, but what if you could blend work and fun together for a lifetime of experience? If you’re ready to spice up your summer and break all routines, here are 7 summer internship opportunities that you should look into. 1. IN DAHAB If you’re looking for an escape from the city and at the same time want to utilize your time, then look for a job in one of Egypt’s most beautiful spots, Dahab, Sinai. A wide variety of activities can be done over there, which provides various opportunities for really entertaining jobs. Dahab is most renowned for its reliable winds and superb flat-water conditions that make it one of the best places in the world for kite/wind surfing and with that, the opportunity for a wind/kite surfing instructor arises. Of course, you will have to be certified for that kind of job so if you are already a kite surfer or a wind surfer, this will be perfect for you. GYM TRAINER/FITNESS COACH If you’re an athlete who happens to be certified to become a fitness coach or a gym trainer, then why not spend this summer doing what you love and imprinting it on others as well? Some gyms don’t even require you to be certified to become a trainer and all you need is for one of them to have a vacancy that you could fill up! 4. UNICEF UNICEF was created in 1964 by the United Nations and
helps fight for the rights of children across the world. It relies on contributions from governments and private donors and it also relies on volunteers and interns for extra help. You can spend you summer giving back to your community, doing charity and feeling helpful by helping UNICEF in their journey to offer better education, nutrition, safety, community and a better future to children. However, note that if you’re still in high school, you can only volunteer because internships are only given to college graduates. DIWAN If you’re a book enthusiast and you’re looking for a somewhat relaxing and enjoyable job with access to all kinds of entertaining books, then Diwan bookstore is your answer. This is the stuff bookworms’ dreams are made of! Just imagine yourself surrounded by shelves and shelves stocked with novels, biographies, poetry books and graphic novels. High school students can usually intern in the customer service section, but there are different and various job vacancies too that will guarantee good and thrilling experiences ahead. 6. TOUR GUIDE We all have a love/hate relationship with our beloved Egypt, but what if you had the opportunity to show your country to a foreigner? Of course you wouldn’t want to badmouth your own birthplace to a stranger, so you would have to delve deeper into Egypt’s hidden gems and unturned corners to show them all that it has to offer. Now you can do just that! There is an app called Showaround, where you apply to work as a tour guide and where you can even specify the rate you want to be paid per hour. And of course the more you do it and the better reviews you get, the more you can increase your rate. This could be an opportunity for you to fall in love and learn about Egypt all over again, and make someone else fall in love with it too. 7. The Huawei P10 Plus is the New Era of Phone Photography In another one of their much anticipated affiliations, Huawei team up with Photographer and Filmmaker Abdel Rahman Gabr-koree and fashion Designer Norine Farah to produce a stunning series of photographs using the Huawei P10 plus. Koree’s biggest challenge was to produce images with very high quality to be used in Huawei’s campaign, and the P10 plus camera quality proved just that! The entire shoot was taken using Huawei P10 plus with the second generation Lieca Dual Lens Camera. Each photography series mimics the stunning colours of the new smartphones which are gold, black and blue. In addition, the scenery was set amidst gorgeous and monumental areas around Cairo.
Designer Norine Farah was impressed with the photoshoots final results: “It was great experience designing garments to reflect the aesthetic design and beautiful colours of Huawei P10 and P10 Plus,” said Farah. “Having worked with Huawei before on previous P series devices, I was determined to design gowns with many small details because I was confident they will stand with the great camera quality, which is exactly what happened,” added Farah.
“The photoshoot, in my opinion, was a great success displaying professional and quality images. We chose locations to represent the three vibrant colours of Gold, Blue and Black, seamlessly displaying the beauty and intensity of the golden ornaments in al Moez Street, the clarity of the Sofitel blue infinity pool and the black steel Koree chose to apply three main features of P10 Plus bars winding around el Korba Street.” Added Koree camera that are truly exceptional in terms of quality and innovation; Night Mode, Portrait Mode, and Monochrome.
