PHENOMENAL

The women in this photo represents strength, intelligence, and the type of beauty that makes them individually beautiful. Elly Olson hand picked them all because they each come from different backgrounds and have different struggles but they equally share one thing in common, they are all PHENOMENAL WOMEN. Sara Geurts has and raises awareness for Ehlers Danlo Syndrome. She has learned to love herself and her disorder. She aims to help other individuals on the road to self love by putting herself out there in the modeling industry. Maria Kochetkova is a Russian model who doubles as an accountant. Maria exemplifies beauty, brains, and a kind heart. She is very supportive of others and her smile lights up the room. Maria is a strong believer in equality and treating everyone with respect. Skye Storlie is a phenomenal woman because she has a vibrant personality and loves to make others happy. Skye has been featured in magazines Moinjama Dudu is breaking into the fashion industry as a plus sized model. She is also a very talented dancer. She is driven by the disbelief of people saying a big girl can’t make it. She tries to break barriers and fat shaming as a whole. Vinyarie Smith has a selfless attitude and she cares about the welfare of others no matter their race or religion. She believes in going the extra mile to help and teach others. Vinyarie has modeled in multiple fashion shows and is a new face to look out for.

Karlee Callender’s passions are her family, children, fashion, living a healthy lifestyle, diversity, and above all, her love for The Lord. She uses her God-given talents to create her sustainable dream life, but more importantly to give back to her community. She has a deep love and appreciation for diverse people. She would go to any length to support her family and friends.

IN THIS ISSUE Women |EMBRACING ALL From television shows to commercials to magazine advertisements to celebrity culture, mainstream media has a big influence on how we understand beauty in the US and around the world. It’s an impossible standard for any woman to live up too - even models themselves don’t look like their photo-shopped, heavily made up images of the magazines. This issue focuses on embracing all women of all ethnicity and race. We wanted this issue to show that beauty is universal and not what is institutionalize, and constructed by mainstream media ideology; that beauty is centralized on the lighter your skin is, sharper your nose, the straighten of your hair or the colors of your eyes. We say no to that ideology! Because we believe that every woman poses a uniqueness that makes her beautiful. Nevertheless, we focus the issue on empowering beauty and presentation of all women we also wanted the issue to celebrate the history of women and their inspiring, and courageous work they are doing around the world as well as in their community. 5 reasons why talking about money can enhance a relationship

(BPT) - Thinking about combining finances with your significant other? Whether you’re getting married or just thinking about getting serious, talking about money can help couples understand each other and avoid unhappy surprises down the road. Here are five reasons why talking about money can enhance a relationship. It makes couples happier. Talking about things like spending, saving and debt may sound business-like and unromantic, but financial experts agree that money is a frequent topic of arguments in many relationships. In fact, according to a survey by the American Psychological Association, almost a third of adults with partners reported that money is a major source of conflict in their relationship.

7. Do we know where our credit stands? 8. Are we saving for retirement? It helps couples afford the “extras” that make life fun. Building a solid financial future shouldn’t mean forsaking enjoying life. When couples have a common understanding of how they’ll prioritize and manage their day-to-day finances like housing costs, grocery and utility bills, it’s easier to figure out where splurges fit in. It helps avoid financial surprises.

“What I see when talking with couples is that learning how to resolve money disagreements - and there will be disagreements - helps build important relationship skills,” says Daniel Prebish, director of Life Event Services with Wells Fargo Advisors. “Those skills will be valuable both at the beginning of a relationship and likely for a couple’s entire time together.” It helps couples connect by understanding what’s going on. Couples should discuss pros and cons of combining finances versus keeping f inances separate. According to research by Wells Fargo & Company, about half of couples choose to combine accounts, while the other half prefers separate accounts. Regardless of where you and your significant other fall in this spectrum, both people in a relationship should understand how their financial habits impact - positively or negatively - the life they are building together.

Hearing your friends shout, “happy birthday” is a welcome surprise. What’s not welcome is suddenly discovering you can’t afford to pay this month’s bills or that retirement is farther away than a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Being up front about money issues and sharing complete financial information with your significant other helps avoid financial surprises that can add unnecessary stress to a relationship. While discussing money may not feel romantic, it certainly is emotional. So how do you get started? Here are tips:

It helps couples track their short and long term financial goals. Be open with your significant other about your full financial picture. Questions that can help open the door to meaningful conversations include:

2. Pick a mutually agreeable time. Your candle-lit Valentine’s dinner may not be the right setting. Pre-arranging the conversation will help ensure both people are mentally prepared.

1. Are we paying ourselves first?

3. Be open with your significant other. Share your values and opinions about spending and savings habits and goals you would like to achieve together.

2. Do we have a safety net? 3. Are we paying all our bills on time, every time? 4. Have we reviewed our insurance needs in the last year? 5. Do we track our spending to know where our money is going every month? 6. Are we paying down high-interest-rate debt first? IDIR - 24

1. Admit the conversation can feel awkward, but commit to having it anyway.

4. Work at it. Commit to an annual meeting to talk about money, credit and whether you’re on track to achieve your financial goals. By opening the lines of communication, you can get on the same financial page before joining financial forces. (This article was written by Wells Fargo Advisors and Consumer Lending)

Women’s Beauty Is An Indescribable

Subject

By Janaki Mehta | Submitted On January 18, 2017 How do you measure a women’s beauty? By her character, by her profession, by her goals or by her looks? Each has its significance and every element is taken into consideration. It is the case with men too. They are judged or witnessed by their breeding, work and their character. Beauty is something that comes from within your body. It is connected with the soul that God has formed inside us Some enhancers from outside can magnify them but the real thing remains inside and only a special soul can ooze that out and spread it in the world. Some radiate happiness in their smiles. Their smile is so beautiful that eases the upset person and feels elated and relaxed. Their aura is so magnificent and soothing that it calms the burning soul and sends peace within. We make such friends for lifetime and in our fields, these working angels help in our difficulties. We have our parents, our birth givers whose aura portrays eternal peace and love. Women love from their hearts. I am stressing on the feminine aspect here because they are often underrated. They wish you the best of everything. If you need a testimony, look at your mother, your wife, your daughter,or your female friend. Every time you cry, they sit beside you, offer silent prayers, and shed tears to give solace. “Everything will be all right. I will lay my life for you my dear. You do not have to worry.”After these, who would not think that he has still something left inside? Greatest of the great warriors have been on their knees when a female brave heart came to their aid. Kind hearts offer the greatest friendship. They will never leave their other-half at the needy times and will not hesitate to destroy the ill will. So much has been written on this subject that we are getting short of words we just need to understand relationship with any human being should stand on the pillars of hope, sacrifice, faith and love. It is not wrong to complain about distances. We are but a foolish mortal and we need our loved ones to be close. We need to see them, feel their presence, and feel loved by their actions. It is not and never is a bad thing. Whoever it is, should always give some time to the person waiting for him or her on the other side of the continent. A person can never be that busy that he cannot spare a single minute to let you know about his condition. Prayers and wishes do work for women. Nevertheless, she needs to be comforted from a physical aspect too. When she longs for the company of her friend or her mate, he or she needs to be around. It is not possible every time, but once in a day for a minute she needs to feel that, “I am special for someone in this world. And, no matter what, he will be with me here when I am in need.” Women are spiritual advisers. They will drag you back from your area of disappointment and help you reach the pinnacle of success. They will make the impossible possible confronting with the worst situations. They are not equal to men but far more superior and sensitive. Either big or small, do not judge us by our caste, creed or height or education. We are the simplest form of angels designed by the name of females and we are here to love, cherish and protect you. We will always rise up to your support but we are also strong enough to live on our own.

Make a striking focal point the foundation of your spa-like bathroom

BPT) - American homeowners’ desire for spa-like bathrooms shows no signs of waning, says the latest Design Trends report by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). From freestanding bath tubs and floating vanities to LED lighting and soothing color schemes, some of the most-requested bathroom renovations focus on creating the atmosphere of luxury and calm found in world-class spas. With the average mid- to upscale bathroom remodeling costing in the range of $30,000, homeowners are also looking for the most cost-effective way to create that spa-like feeling. Many are opting to build their bathroom renovations around a focal point, such as a freestanding tub or luxury shower, and round out the effect with more modest accessories and fixtures. Choosing a focal point Homeowners are choosing to install freestanding soaking tubs in their master bathrooms, in particular, to create an exclusive sanctuary of relaxation. In fact, in 2016 half of NKBA members were asked to install freestanding tubs in bathroom remodels, and 60 percent expect to be doing more of them in 2017. Traditionally styled freestanding tubs were often claw-footed fixtures that meshed well with conventional design themes, but struggled to fit into the sleek, contemporary lines associated with a spa-like setting. Strikingly modern freestanding tubs offer expanded design flexibility as a focal point in today’s spa-inspired bathroom settings. Options like the American Standard Coastal-Serin Freestanding Tub in high-gloss cast acrylic enhance the deep soaking space of a luxurious tub with a clean, simple and modern profile that fits well in spa-like bathroom design. Few bathroom fixtures speak of luxury as clearly and loudly as a showpiece bathtub. A deep, sumptuous freestanding tub not only provides a restful spot for a soothing soak after a long day, it also serves as a striking visual focal point for modern baths. Considering Fixture Alternatives Already have a standard alcove tub, but still want to create your spa at home? Try installing a deep soak tub drain, which has a unique overflow feature that allows 2-inch deeper water than a standard bathtub drain. This universal drain works in most standard bathtubs - and that could be yours. Replacing a standard toilet seat with an upscale option like the DXV AT100 SpaLet Electronic Bidet Seat furthers the luxuriousness of the bathroom without the cost commitment and permanency of installing a full bidet. Its heated seat, choice of water temperature and volume for the two cleansing wands, and the oh-so-decadent warm air dryer are the ultimate self-indulgence to bring the spa right into your home. Wood vanities and storage cabinets for bath linens continue to be popular with today’s consumers. Floating vanities and open shelving, which are gaining in use with interior designers and homeowners alike, can further the effect of an upscale spa by creating a visually clean, uncluttered effect. Rounding out the theme Soft, pale greens and aquas have long been associated with spa-like design, but in 2017 bathroom color choices are trending toward grays, off whites, blues and violets, according to the Design Trends report. Sedate and subtle are the hallmarks of spa color schemes, so when choosing yours keep in mind the calm effect you want to achieve. Also, remember your color scheme doesn’t have to be limited to the walls; consider incorporating your chosen colors into cabinetry, counter tops and accessories. Flexible lighting is also key for a spa-like bathroom. Remember to incorporate brighter lighting where you’ll need it most, such as around vanities, and add features like dimmers that will allow you to reduce the amount of light in the room when you want to create a relaxing atmosphere. Finally, adding touches that appeal to all your senses, such as music, mood lighting and aromatherapy can elevate a bathroom to a spa-like environment. Whether you opt for a full surround system in your bathroom or add waterproof blue tooth speakers in the shower, it’s easy to bring music into your spa bath. Scent adds yet another layer of luxury and is easy to achieve, whether you choose a simple arrangement of essential oils and diffuser reeds or an electronic diffuser that gently mists aroma into the room. Americans view their bathrooms as more than just a room to take care of business. Infusing your master bathroom with spa-like features can turn the room into an oasis of relaxation and luxury.

Little Did She Know By Yesenia Garza

She dream of a life of perfection, of glamor and class But little did she know she lived in a world of glass Her dreams, expectations, and hopes were not that of her own, But little did she know as tears rolled down her cheekbone From time to time she wondered why this feeling She met every expectation society claimed to have to mean Yet the feeling inside continued to grow She told herself the feeling had no meaning - she must continue her show She danced, she smiled, she laughed, she sang But little did she know the pain hid inside her and remained Her mind swirled with thoughts of being un-whole But little did she know that this new awareness would bare her a new soul As she journeyed inward, true feelings came outward “Am I the character I was to be or has someone else written this part for me?” And with this thought, came a crack in the glass Twas the end of suffering at last She broke every rule and called it her new beginning But little did she know she had always been winning She no longer played a part in society’s show But little did she know the pain was needed to grow And with her surrender, she began a new story Filled new chapters with happiness and love, instead of money and glory She pondered where she had been for so long But little did she know, her true self-was inside her all along.

“When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person. There was such a glory over everything; the sun came like gold through the trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in Heaven.”

In Philadelphia, Tubman took on odd jobs to earn some money, but she wanted to return to Maryland to rescue the rest of her family. In her own words: “I had crossed de line of which I had so long been dreaming. I was free; but there was no one to welcome me to de land of freedom, I was a stranger in a strange land, and my home after all was down in de old cabin quarter, wid de ole folks, and my brudders and sisters. But to dis solemn resolution I came; I was free, and dey should be free also; I would make a home for dem in de North, and de Lord helping me, I would bring dem all dere.” This task of retrieving slaves was made more complicated by the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850, which heavily punished anyone helping slaves to escape – even in states which outlawed slavery. “I knew someone had to take the first step and I made up my mind not to move.” - Rosa Parks (1913-2005) blogspot

Harriet Tubman also served as a spy for the US army during the civil war and was an active participant in the struggle for women’s suffrage. Tubman was born, Araminta Ross, to slave parents who lived on plantations in Maryland. Little is known about her family background and ancestry, but her maternal grandmother came to the US on a slave ship from Africa (possibly from modern-day Ghana). In 1849, Tubman’s slave owner – Edward Brodress died. This raised the likelihood Tubman would be sold, and the family split up. With her two brothers, Ben and Henry, she decided to escape from the large plantation in Caroline County were they were hired out to. IDIR - 64

MOTHER, MODEL, TV STAR, AND A PERSONALITY THAT KEEPS SMILING; Fernanda Almeida We’ve all dreamed of flying free, living out your dreams, and

enjoying every second of it! Most of us give up or never really try but Ms. Fernanda Almedia did! Growing up in Mexico she dreamed of being an international model, not just any model but one with impact. At sixteen, standing five foot nine inches tall Fernanda’s modeling career took off. Her goals became uncertain beginning with her father’s disapproval and her move to the United States. She became a wife and a mother of two, redirecting her focus. Although living a life of purpose she felt her chance of fulfilling her passion had come to a halt.

“ I absolutely thought my dreams were gone!” Life had a different plan for her - an opportunity in broadcasting would revive her dreams. Fernanda became a star on Minnesota’s Hispanic broadcasting channel, excelled at her new position and with her humble, friendly personality and dizzying beauty she solidified her role. Opportunities come knocking when she took a leap of faith and ventured into other realms of entertainment.

“ This is what made the idea of modeling come back, even though I thought I had no chance. I decided to give it one more try. The worst they can say is no, right?” Her next move would forever change her life. Going on faith, she submitted her modeling resume to General Mills thus beginning the waiting game. The wait was over when a call came in, landing Fernanda her very first big national commercial for General Mills, she also signed an exclusive contract with the company. The commercial with General Mills opened many doors with big brands; Snap Fitness, Aveda, Bumble and Bumble, FedEx, UCare, JAMF Software, fashion shows the list goes on. Fernanda was born in Guadalajara, Jal. México to a very big and loving family, she’s the third of nine children. Fernanda sibling has six sisters and two brothers. When she turned twelve she was already 5’9, developing a love for beauty and entertainment TV and modeling to be specific. Luckily, her mother encouraged her which helped her follow her dreams. Unfortunately, growing up she experienced bullying for her height, weight, curly hair and her participation in pageants but she never allowed anything to stop her from her goals. At a younger age, she understood it was okay to be different thanks to her parent’s upbringing. Today, Fernanda encourages and inspires teens around the world. Assuring them that no matter what the situation is anything can be achieved with persistence and paying attention to nothing but your heart. IDIR - 76
