Bath View Condos Has found A new Developer
Odyssey of the Mind Tournament submitted by MELINDA McCANN Eight Northampton Area School District teams (ranging from kindergarten to tenth grade) competed at the Northeast Pennsylvania Odyssey of the Mind Tournament, an interna-
tional creative problem-solving program, on Saturday, March 17 at Pocono Mountain West High School. The event was held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the awards ceremony following. Over 50 NASD students competed in three different events.
By KERI LINDENMUTH During its March 14 meeting, the Borough of Bath Council met with the new developer of Bath View Condos. Justin Huratiak, who has experience developing other commercial and residential properties, would like to take over the previously stalled condominium project. Original plans for the condominium located on Route 512 included two condo buildings and a possible strip mall. Currently only one building sits on the site. After the original developer went bankrupt, the project was never completed. Huratiak is currently under agreement with the bank in control of the property. He would like to put several small buildings in the footprint of the undeveloped second condominium. However, he must first finish the land development checklist the original developer left incomplete. Huratiak is entering an escrow and will continue with legal and engineering requirements. Other news in Bath: Jimmy Pasquariello, President of the Bath Social Hall, announced that the social hall and the Bath Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a joint fundraiser event on July 21. Called “United We Ride,” this event will feature plenty of bikes, food, and vendors. The organizations are currently petitioning PennDOT to close Route 512 for Continued on page 11

East Allen supervisors Bid farewell to Township manager By KERI LINDENMUTH East Allen supervisors bid farewell to township manager Deborah Seiple during their March 22 meeting. Seiple will be retiring at the end of March. She has been manager of the township since 2005, a role supervisors said she brought to “fruition.” Before becoming the township’s first manager, she was also a township supervisor and member of the planning commission. Seiple has always, supervisors said, done what she felt was best for the township and its residents. Supervisor Mark Schwartz recalled Seiple welcoming him onto the board. “She helped me a lot with the rules of the road,” he said. Other supervisors agreed. “You made me feel welcome,” Supervisor Don Heiney added. “You are a [darn] good mentor.”
“If everybody around you agrees with you, you are not doing your job right,” he continued. Supervisors were not the only ones to praise Seiple. Township professionals also recalled fond memories of working with the township manager. “[I have] appeared in front of many municipalities,” said Joseph Piperato, III, township solicitor. “[It was] a great honor to work with Debbie.” “You are at the top, Debbie,” he continued. “Thank you for your friendship, guidance, and Continued on page 3

House fire hits home in Moore Township by HOME NEWS STAFF An estimated 5,000 people of the Coplay and Whitehall Township communities joined together on Saturday, March 24 to celebrate local legend Saquon Barkley. A parade and festivities were held to honor Barkley, a
Coplay native and former Whitehall High School and Penn State student who is now headed to the NFL Draft next month. A plaque was dedicated in Barkley’s honor by borough officials, and his No. 21 football jersey from Whitehall High School will be retired.
by HOME NEWS STAFF Around 1 a.m. on Monday, March 26, Klecknersville Rangers and Bath Fire Department were dispatched to a Moore Township home in the 2700 block of East Beersville Road for a reported dryer fire.

was exactly what the students and company needed this year,” theatre director Gianna Beleno said in her director’s notes. All that quirkiness was expertly brought to the stage by a cast of over 30 students. Senior Harry Faber played Addams patriarch Gomez (the role of Gomez was also played by junior Brandon Costanzo for half of the performances). Meanwhile, junior Brooke Brida played Morticia, senior Nate Jones played Pugsley, and junior Celia Doll played Wednesday. In the musical, a grown-up Wednesday threatens the Addams legacy after falling in love with and becoming engaged to a seemingly normal Lucas Beineke, played by junior Austin Fleury. When Lucas’s parents, Mal and Alice, played by seniors Lane Markulics and Erica Belovich, visit the Addams for dinner, the morbid family tries to be as normal as possible…though it is easy to predict how that turns out! Other members of the iconic family also had their turn on the stage. Lurch was played by senior Jake Herschman, Grandma was played by senior Alexandra Horvath, Uncle Fester was played by senior Christian Nemeh, and Thing (Yes, even the disembodied hand made an appearance!) was played by junior Ireland McGinnis. “The characters of the Addams Continued on page 3

Family are well-known and beloved by many generations,” said Beleno, “so to bring this story to life onstage has been a treat for the cast and crew.” Plenty of never-before-seen members of the Addams family also made an appearance. When the curtain of the musical opens, Addams ancestors, from a ballerina to a baseball player to even Marilyn Monroe, grace the stage and help Uncle Fester ensure Wednesday’s and Lucas’s special dinner isn’t ruined. Fabulous makeup and costumes transformed all of the students into the familiar characters. The show’s famous theme made it into the opening number, but there were plenty of new songs for the audience to enjoy. Doll shined in her solo performance of “Pulled” and Brida, as well as a chorus line of Addams ancestors, brought a surprising amount of sweetness to “Just Around the Corner,” a bubbly number about all the ways one can die. Faber was energetic as Gomez in “Trapped” and “Not Today.” He and Brida even showed the audience their tangoing skills during “Tango de Amor.” There were also plenty of numbers in which the supporting cast and company got to show off
their talents. “When You’re an Addams” introduced the audience to the entire Addams family, “One Normal Night” showed that the Addams and the Beinekes may not be so different after all, and “Full Disclosure” brought the first act to an engaging end. The entire cast and crew was lauded for their hard work. Months of weeknight and weekend rehearsals went into this production. Several snowstorms in the weeks leading up to opening night also meant that students missed at least six or so rehearsal days, but the entire cast and crew was able to pull together an outstanding performance that had audience members laughing for nearly two hours. “They put on a fabulous show,” said Pat and Linda Reed, parents of freshman Emily Reed, who played the ballerina Addams ancestor. “A lot of credit goes to the directors. They had a well-organized team effort.” The cast and crew are hoping that fabulous team effort pays off come this season’s Freddy Awards. “Will the Freddy Awards nominate this scene?” Uncle Fester jokingly interjects during the lyrics of “One Normal Night.” To find out, tune into the Freddy Award nominations on WFMZ on Thursday, May 10. The Freddy Awards will be held on Thursday, May 24.

The Cross
Christ’s work on the cross was so important that the Holy Spirit inspired John to use fifty percent of his entire Gospel on the week leading up to and including His death on the cross. The Apostle Paul’s life and message centered on the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. He said, “For I determined not to know any thing among you save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” (I Corinthians 2:2). The cross is the central fact and theme of Christian theology. It is the only cure for sin which separates man from God. Yet, some despise the message of the cross. Trusting in their own goodness or religiosity they pridefully react to being considered sinners in need of salvation. These “enemies of the cross of Christ” (Philippians 3:18) reject the work of Christ on the cross as the only means of salvation (see www.naog.ws/theway.htm). Consequently, they face a hopeless end while those who accept Christ’s work on the cross are given an endless hope! Harry Rimmer said, “The cross that reared its ugly head on Golgotha’s crest was the means of the redemption of all the promises that God had made concerning a coming Savior. It was the bulletin board upon which God nailed His proclamation of amnesty to rebellious sinners. The conditions of pardon, peace, salvation, and eternal life, are all contained in the stark and bleak tragedy of the immolation of God’s Son.” He said, “God...is so utterly gracious, He has Himself provided the gift whereby He may be propitiated and the sinner reconciled to Him. Therefore we come into His presence saying, ‘Nothing in my hands I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling.’”

Grow UR Biz Six big Ideas
I recently ate lunch at a restaurant and the guy sitting next to me was criticizing the food he received. He then went on to criticize the restaurant’s new owner to the waitress. I was uncomfortable with him making, what seemed to be, unfounded criticism. After he left, I asked the waitress what he did for a living. She told me that he’s a small business owner. I thought to myself, “So, he owns a small business and is criticizing a small business in front of others and to the waitress?” That just seems wrong. So I was thinking, shouldn’t small businesses, no matter how small, no matter what the issues, no matter what, support each other in public? GAB OVER by Pete THE FENCE G. Ossip This has been a much better second week of spring. Lots of sunshine. The snow of last week is almost gone with the sun shining on it – the last one of a rough winter, hopefully. . . . In NCAA college basketball, Villanova is
slated to play Kansas after they beat the tough Blue Devils of Duke University. If Villanova wins it they’ll be in the national championship game, and if they win that one, look for another parade down Broad Street in Philly like the city had for the Eagles. . . . And the other big sport is major league baseball, and our Phillies. With new players they’re hoping they can get into the playoffs. They’re playing the New York Mets. I had to open this let-

ter with sports to please Elmira ‘cause she isn’t into sports and I had to get it over with. She does watch girls’ basketball though . . . . Heard that my buddy Q.V. got herself hitched down in Florida. Sounds like it was a lot of fun and congrats to the happy couple . . . .This is Holy Week, and Easter Sunday is this weekend, and churches should be full with worshipers. There will be dawn services, but I think I’ll stay with my usual hour. Holy Cross Lutheran up in Moorestown is having four services, the first at 6 a.m. Every year I mention Easter bonnets, but that’s not a big deal anymore. Just like men, they don’t wear hats like they used to, only baseball caps. Styles change over the years, so we go with the flow. . . .Just like I thought, Northampton had their Easter egg hunt at 11 o’clock on Saturday, the same time as Ahart’s did here in Bath. They drew huge crowds ‘cause the weather was sunny. Everybody had a great time at both places and at others all over the area, too many to mention. . . .The Northampton County 4-H will have an egg hunt this Sat-
urday, the 31st of March, at the 4-H Center along Bushkill Center Road. It’s a benefit for a family who lost their home in a fire. They’re charging $5 a person to raise the money needed for the family. It starts at 10 a.m., with registration starting at 9:30. Get there early so the kids don’t miss out. They dash out so fast the hunt is over in a few minutes . . . . Joanne Billings was at the District Lions convention with her boys and their families as they memorialized 30 people on Sunday morning, including Charlie, who had died last year. Charlie worked hard for the Bath Lions, especially at their bingo games, and they miss him. In his sermon, Rev. J. R. Wetzel also mentioned Willard “Chickie” Haidle, who got him into the Lions 35 years ago. . . . Happy Easter, everybody!!!

The Christmas Garland
See Our Pictures at MACHOSECONTRACTING.COM
By KATHLEEN UNGER There was a piece of artificial garland still lying in my garage left over from Christmas. When I last parked the car in the garage, I remember driving onto part of the garland. So on Friday, I had an appointment off of William Penn Hwy. After the appointment I stopped at Staples and when I came out of the store, I noticed something green hanging off the front tire. I checked to see what it was and it turned out to be the Christmas garland. It must have stuck to the wheel.

Egg Hunt Continued from page 9
About 300 excited children, clutching Easter baskets of every shape and size, lined up outside the rec center. Some wearing Eas-
ter dresses and others wearing rabbit ears, they streamed into the rec center as Mayor Thomas Reenock, Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst, and a group of several other borough volunteers handed out over 1,900 Hersheykiss-filled Easter eggs and over 300 large chocolate rabbits. After they received their can-
dy, children got to meet the Easter Bunny and have their photos taken. Despite the change in venue,
there were plenty of smiles. Brobst thanked the children and their families for being so cooperative.
