A Letter from the Editor
Love is in the air... I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Even though snow is on the ground in most places, things are beginning to warm up with Valentine’s Dacy coming up. Those well grounded become twitterpated when that special someone enters a room. Romantic getaways are planned in secret to optimize the surprise when revealed. People frantically search Second Life & Marketplace to find that unique and memorable Valentine to pass to their sweetheart. IDWN recognized this and wanted to make it easier for you love struck romantics. We are having the Love Trinkets Hunt from January 28th - February 14th. All items found in this hunt can be given as a gift for Valentine’s Day. Items range from sweet romantic gestures such as jewelery, chocolate, and flowers to items that will surely keep you warm on those winter nights. This time of year is usually when couples start to get the itch to make their love official. Weddings in Second Life start to boom from now til mid June.
Thankfully, we have a wide ranger of planners and business that will help the elopers to the Kings and Queens of SL. Make sure you utilize IDWN when you start to plan your wedding. We have some of SL’s best at your finger tips. Recently, IDWN said goodbye to a team member who helped pioneer our online magazine. I just wanted to extend a thank you to Kat Carter for all her help the past few months and wish her great success in her future endeavors. We currently are seeking new team members for the magazine and the group. If you are interested in helping us grow and gaining creative experience make sure you hit me up in-world. Happy Valentine’s Day, Pac Lorefield, founder of IDWN I dedicate this issue to Serbon and Kat Cobalt. They have been IDWN’s biggest assests and I would be lost with out them!
This issue IDWN Creative Director and *HPC* co-owner, HitcherPost, answers: “How long is a typical engagement SL?”
Time in Second Life, doesn’t seem to always coincide with time in what we refer to as “real life.” A typcial engagement in SL can be any where from two days to six weeks or sometimes longer. Traditionally, I have seen engagments average about three weeks. Where as in “real life” engagemnts last six months to a year at miminum. Usually a prolonged engagment in SL is due to scheduling issues. The couple must arrange not only their personal lives so that they can be present on the special day with out distraction, but give enough time for their friends and family in SL to make arrangements as well to attend. Another element that may prolong an engagement is finding the Linden to pay for it. Weddings in SL range from free to over $50,000 L. Though some have the “real life” means to drop that much into USD into Second LIfe, others must earn the money in-world djing, dancing, or running their business. Others use the engagement as time to evaluate their relationshiop. Are both ready to commit to a partnership? What are the difficulties you could face if your significant other is attached in “real life”? All things to iron out before spending the money on your dream wedding. Is there a right or wrong length of time to be engaged in SL? My answer is no. This virtual life is what you make of it. Just decided with your soon-to-be-spouse what works best for the two of you because in the end, that’s all that really matters.
Ea wellladonknowjoined the Second Life business world March of 2006. A friend, who was builder at the time, had given him his first house in Second Life. One feature Eladon enjoy was the pond. He wanted to add some Koi fish to his pond but was unable to find any in SL at the time. The only ones he could find were flat alpha fish that looked great from the side but that was it. So Eladon had the bright idea to use a cylinder and created overhead textures of different Koi fish. When he showed his friend, he told Eladon that he needed to sell his build. In the first week of selling his Koi, he made over $10K L. It was at that point that he became rather enthusiastic about building. When asked what the hardest part of running a successful business in SL was he had one word, “Marketing.” Eladon advises new comers to the SL business realm to “build what inspires you. Then remember building is the easy part. The hard part is getting other people to know how great you are.” What new avenues is Eladon venturing into for 2013? He said that he will be working on updated systems and more variations “to better serve [his] clients needs.” He also has plans on creating pre-scripted rezzable wedding theme systems. Eladon has been a great asset to the I Do Wedding Network. He was one of IDWN’s first members and has always lent a helping hand in sponsoring the Bridal Expo and IDWN Hunts. Make sure you take a chance to stop by his store and see what wonderful talent he has brought to Second Life.
Marla Marx shows us how to bring the romance back to Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day is the ultimate day for lovers to show their affection for one another.
What could be more special than to say “I do” on a holiday made for love. And if you are already married or partnered don’t ho hum the holiday away. Why not express your love with renewing your devotion to each other? Invite family and friends to join you as you make it a day to remember.
So how do you make a wedding day fit for a Valentine’s Day romance? The first critical step is to create a check list of things that must get done. Think about your wedding colors. Do you want a classic or modern theme? Though a classic or vintage theme is more traditionally the choice for Valentine’s, you can still add romance to a more modern style. Don’t over stress yourself about technicalities. After all, it is your day.
Remember to incorporate something that represents you and your partner. For example, if you both love horses, why not add a carriage ride to the chapel or to the reception? If you met in a park have the ceremony outdoors to bring in the earthy tones. Typically, pink and red are the go to colors for a Valentine wedding, but if you always wanted that formal black and white wedding, adding hints and hues of pink or red adds just enough color to give off the same effect yet still having the theme you have always dreamed.
Adding jewels and chandeliers gives a classic vintage feel to the venue. It is a romantic touch to add warm lights and sparkles. Featured you can see how this look can be used rather than the normally preferred flowers. On the chairs, I added jewels to the back of the chairs to add a little oomph to the simple bow.
Flowers are one of the best ways to convey romance and add a touch of class. Accent your aisle with roses or your favorite flower. Add a nosegays to the base to give it an elegant touch. This will give a lasting impression and something to remember for you and your guests.
Last but not least - the wedding dress. Let your style show but add a few touches that will show your soft romantic side. Wear your hair in a low sultry bun or long wavy curls down the back. You could also add a beautiful train or veil that say romance and love. Whatever you end up choosing, just remember that this day is all about love and when it comes down to it, that is really all the romance one needs.

VIPERA Special Events A hidden gem in Second Life
V
IPERA is owned by Damien and Di Viper (Damien1174 Resident and Diamonique Viper) and has been in operation since July of 2012.
Originally VIPERA was a venue created for a friend of the couple who wanted to get married on their sim. After several inquiries, they decided to keep it up rather than tear it down. Like most wedding venues in Second Life, they struggle with traffic and retention. But the couple created a hang out which boasts of consistent high quality entertainment in a friendly welcoming environment which in turns helps market VIPERA. Damien and Di say they have had great friends from the start who have helped with staffing and financial backing. They are proud to have a hang out where everyone knows their name, a place to call home, and overall a fun sim to explore. The couple recommends to those thinking of starting up a similar business to do their research. “There are a lot of amazing builders and some great quality wedding supplies.” So what’s in store for VIPERA in 2013? The couple looks forward to growing their recently acquired full sim, boost their group numbers into the 500’s, and for constant new and exciting changes that guests can explore and enjoy.
IDWN Sweethearts A Love Story that Expands Two Worlds
Picture it -July 4th, 2011... The story starts at the BittR.end funny enough, Kat was moving RL a few days before and fell twisting her ankle pretty badly. not having internet in the new place our communication was very limited over a few days. Well on July 4th Kat walked up, on her sprained ankle to mcdonald’s to talk to me for a few minutes. i was still dJing when Kat had to leave but i asked her to hang on a second. her Laptop battery was dying and there was no outlet to plug into. i rezzed out the pose balls got down on one knee and asked Kat to marry me.... Romantic Right? Well before Kat could answer the power went on her battery and poof she was gone. Kat determined to answer quickly rebooted once again.. came in world and said... Yes!!! Quick as a flash she was gone again but a few weeks later we were both saying “i do!” on fully charged computers as our SL Son was wandering off through the forest asking how many prim’s the set up was. one of the best days of my SLife. now picture niagra falls, nY... A long walk along the side of the niagara River up near the railings we walked and talked. Both in awe of the beautiful site of the falls. The sound of the rushing river cascading over the rocks, the wind blowing softly in the moonlight.
We stopped and took a few minutes to just take in the scenery, With Kat’s back turned to me I quickly dropped to my knee, pulled a ring from my pocket and waited for her to turn around. I asked the woman of my dreams, my fantasies and my previous lives to marry me. Through teary eyes she couldn’t get out the words but finally said “C’mere!”.. I won’t get into the details of what happened next, but here we are today still deeply in love with each other waiting for the day where we can finally say “I DO!” and married in Real life. This was the ultimate Date night that carried over to the next day. I truly think the highlight of it all came when you couldn’t say the words but just nodded with teary eyes and said “C’mere” I couldn’t ask for more. Always walk off the beaten trail, you will never know what you will find. We did and found the most amazing things. This will be 2 days I will never forget in my entire life. -Written by Serbon Cobalt
