On Friday, Nov. 22 the Royal Gent’s de Colton visited 5 elementary schools to distribute 40 turkeys and food boxes that contained all the fixin’s such as mashed potatoes, cranberry and apple sauces, macaroni and cheese, gravy and canned fruit. Schools that received the generous donations were Alice Birney, Lincoln, McKinley, Wilson, and Grant (pictured above).

“The Colton community is always generous and this is an obvious example of it,” remarked Grant Elementary Principal Patrick McGinn, 5th from left. “We really do appreciate everything the community does for us.” More photos on page 2.

T

he Colton Joint Unified School District’s Board of Education announced at its meeting Thursday the selection of Dr. Frank Miranda, assistant superintendent of Business Services, as the district’s new superintendent pending successful contract negotiations. He is scheduled to begin his new duties on Jan. 1 to replace long-time CJUSD leader Jerry Almendarez.

During the coming weeks, Almendarez and Dr. Miranda will work together to ensure a smooth transition. Dr. Miranda joined CJUSD in 2008 as the principal of McKinley Elementary School. He then subsequently served as director of Human Resources and later as director of Fiscal Services before being promoted to assistant superintendent. Earlier in his career, he was an elementary and middle school vice principal in San Bernardino, and a math and science teacher in Pomona.

The Board opted to look inhouse for a new superintendent following Superintendent Jerry Almendarez’ recent announcement of his upcoming move to Santa Ana USD, citing a strong belief in the success of schools, programs and departments throughout the district. “From the work being done at individual schools, to our departments and divisions, our entire team does so many great things for students and families and has built truly strong, positive momentum,” Board President
