This family-operated business has just about everything you need from cool beverages to snacks, sundries to grocery items, including key making and lotto tickets.

Born in Palestine, Mr. Mike came to the United States when he was 23 years old and spent several years working for his cousin at a gas station. In 2004, Mike and his wife Kifaya purchased this location and, together with their son Ameer

passed away 10 to 15 years ago.

One person came up to me and said that this memorial was the first time they ever had the opportunity to honor their loved ones in this way,” continued Villalobos.

"Mr. Mike has designed his business for the convenience of the residents," says Dr. G, who elaborated, "He reaches out to the residents and offers what they want." Local customer Silvia Castillo also commented, "This store has a little bit of everything, and it's very convenient, especially for getting a last-minute item."

here is a sexual assault taking place right now.

Every 68 seconds, someone in America is sexually assaulted. Yet, more than 97 percent of perpetrators get off scot-free.

A significant reason is the mismanagement of physical evidence. It's time for police work in California to enter the modern era -- and employ the latest technology for collecting and processing evidence. Otherwise, rapists will continue to go free.

The evidence in a sexual-assault investigation is typically the product of a six-hour physical exam conducted by a medical professional, who searches the victim's body for any material -- like DNA -- that could help identify the perpetrator. The information and material gathered are known as a "sexual assault kit."

As a survivor of sex trafficking and a current advocate for victims, I know firsthand how invasive and retraumatizing these exams can be. But we believe that the information collected will help deliver justice.

That faith is often misplaced. In far too many cases, the evidence in sexual assault kits is never used.

Arianna Villalobos passed away at 15 on October 1st, 2019, and keeping true to her values of helping others, before

her death, she asked her parents to donate her brain, tumor, spine, and all viable organs to science, which are now at Stanford University.

The organization’s next big event is the Aristrong Car Show and Kickball Tournament on November 6th, 2022.

The state of California, for instance, reported a backlog of more than 13,000 untested kits in 2020. Every unprocessed kit represents an unsolved crime and a perpetrator likely to attack again.

Another layer of dysfunction can appear when sexual assault kits are tested and used as evidence. Court cases often require proof of the "chain of custody" for a piece of evidence. Prosecutors need to prove the whereabouts of a rape kit, for example, as it travels from the emergency room to the police, to the crime lab, to the prosecutor, and then to the courts. That evidence may be on the move for years.

The chain of custody is one of the first elements a reasonable defense attorney will scrutinize. If they can prove a break in the chain of custody, the evidence is not admissible at trial. And if a defendant challenges the chain of custody, even a minor mistake can lead to an acquittal.

Long backlogs and mismanagement of evidence don't just impact convictions. They also serve as powerful disincentives for women who wish to report sexual assault.

Today, any sexual assault has just a 31 percent chance of being reported to the police. So why go through an invasive, demeaning physical exam if the evidence will end up in a storage closet -- or if mis-

management by police is going to let the rapist off on a technicality?

There's no excuse for losing track of evidence in 2022. We can look at our phones to determine how many houses away our Amazon packages are. Our financial and health records are online and available on-demand. But some police departments still rely on faulty software or even paper files to track evidence.

And multiple states, including Massachusetts and Texas, do not require police to keep track of clothing, blood, and urine in a rape kit.

Simple upgrades -- from implementing barcodes and RFID tags, combined with good software -- will bring evidence-collection and management to an appropriate technological standard nationwide. Of course, it will require significant investment by federal and state governments. But newer tools can maximize the impact of those public dollars.

We have the technology to get more perpetrators of sexual assault off the street. We need California law enforcement agencies to deploy those tools, so victims aren't telling their stories in vain.

nland Empire Health and Wellness Coach Evan Roberts believes living well into the 100s will be possible for a majority of society by starting health and wellness regimens at an early age.

Roberts, who was born in Redlands, says he had lots of gut issues in high school, which prompted his passion for the space of health and wellness.

“In my sophomore year of high

school, I dealt with many gut issues like irritable bowel syndrome; I was lactose intolerant and even had a tapeworm. My doctor said these were issues I would have to navigate through with medication for the rest of my life. Then, of all people, one day, my Spanish teacher gave me some books about how chemicals and pesticides in our food can cause gut issues,” said Roberts.

He said he went home, read the books, got rid of his junk food, and started fasting, which eliminated much of his gut issues in

two weeks and inspired him to help others.

Some of Roberts’s training includes a Universal Teaching Certificate, which he garnered in Thailand after 300 hours of breathwork and meditation, along with an Institute of Integrative Nutrition Certificate for health coaching.

One of Robert’s goals as a certified health and wellness coach is to help people live a long life and a life where the client lives the entire time healthily.

He also said cutting back on sugar as much as possible is imperative to the body. Sugar leads to many diseases; it feeds cancer cells, causes insulin sensitivity, and even brain fog.

“I also recommend getting a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day, whether spent walking, lifting weights, playing a sport etc. Everyday movement is great for our cognitive function; it keeps our brain healthy and improves our mood,” said Roberts.

Aside from his in-person Elemental Health + Wellness Coaching program, Roberts recently implemented a virtual option for the program, allowing him to meet people where they feel most comfortable.

“I love in-person coaching, but

when the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, it was imperative to create a virtual coaching program as some people were not comfortable meeting in person, and others just didn’t have the time to drive to and from the appointment. This virtual program allows me to meet people wherever they’re and even reach a wider audience across the Inland Empire, Southern California, and the country,” Roberts said.

With the virtual coaching program, Roberts said a client would receive a one-hour bi-weekly coaching call, a weekly check-in form for the client, and he’ll respond with video recorded feedback, templates based on health goals, articles and podcasts, communication via text, breathwork modules, and access to his 7 Day Elemental Reset.

“My mission is to get people back to their original state of health. We already know people can live to 120 years old; it’s an established age, even in the world’s blue zones, which one blue zone is right in our backyard, Loma Linda. Taking health seriously at a young age will set the foundation for a predominantly happier and healthier life that will spill over into your work and relationships,” concluded Robert.

The NBA should not shorten its season

n a recent press conference ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals, NBA commissioner Adam Silver was asked about how he and the league felt about shortening the NBA season from 82 games, a topic much talked and debated about over the past few years.

Silver said the league was not against it, especially if it limited injuries. This statement seemed to open the window for it to possibly happen, and has fans buzzing.

Personally, I don’t agree with shortening the season, for multiple reasons.

One of the most viral responses to the Silver statement was from former NBA champion Richard Jefferson who, on ESPN, got out of his chair to express his distaste regarding the idea of a shortened season.

Jefferson cited multiple things, one being how the NBA had already done things to prevent injury like limiting back to back games with no rest in between. He also said

that NBA players have so much access to rest and recovery.

Each team has their own sleep doctor, trainers, diet managers, you name it. I agree with Jefferson’s claims.

Why should the season be shortened if over the past decade, the NBA has already done so much to protect its players?

These guys get paid millions of dollars to play 82 games and then the playoffs, if they make it there.

There is going to be injury risk and fatigue no matter what. Freak injuries to players like Derrick Rose didn’t happen because of 82 games, it just was bad luck.

In addition, “load management” has become a common thing around the league. Star players who have a lot of tread on their tires can simply now sit out regardless of injury status with the league no longer heavily fining the franchise for doing so.

The concept of shortening the season is also one big

hypocrisy from the league.

We’ve heard rumors for a couple years now about a mid season tournament for money or a playoff birth.

How is the NBA going to try to shorten a season when they turnaround and also say they want more games? It simply does not make sense.

Every sport is a grind, and basketball is no exception.

However, to be a champion, to be great, you need to persevere through that grind.

You need to find that extra gear and that drive to accomplish greatness. That’s what makes sports, sports.

Catering to the few injuries that the players know they risk each time they step on the court is a bad decision to make, especially considering these players are getting paid insane amounts of money to take these risks.

The NBA must keep the regular season at an 82 game length, and not fix what isn’t broken.
