Rialto students chat with NASA astronauts live from space By Manny B. Sandoval

O
n March 18, students from Dunn Elementary and Rialto Middle schools had the opportunity to chat with National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronauts live from space, an initiative “Reach for the Stars” coordinated by Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35). The live virtual event drew in over 1,100 participants and was led by astronauts Victor J. Glover, Commander, U.S. Navy, from Pomona and Dr. Shannon live from the Walker, International Space Station as they orbited the Earth about 250 miles overhead.

Smile America Abdi Foundation, Mohamed devotes her time to providing resources to the homeless and community members in need, continuing in her brother’s philanthropy. “Abdi gave from his heart and his pocket to feed friends, family, homeless and anyone in need of help,” Mohamed shared. “He helped local and international communities while living his motto: ‘Give for the sake of God and he will bless you infinitely.’”
Rialto resident Farah Mohamed is one of those honored for her commitment to the community through the Smile America Abdi Foundation, founded by her late brother, Abdi Mohamed. “Thank you Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., members of the Supervisor’s staff and those who continue to recognize the work ahead in homeless services,” Mohamed said during her acceptance. “It is really on behalf of my brother Abdi that I do the work I do and to whom I dedicate this moment.” As executive director of the
