RUSD

The Rialto Unified School District is currently in the process of redrawing the District’s elections map to move from at-large to by-trustee area elections, a process governed by the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA). The RUSD is looking for input from the education community to help draw the new maps. Pictured here, an RUSD parent walks up the steps of the Dr. John R. Kazalunas Education Center.

The process is governed by the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA), which took effect in January 2003. The CVRA prohibits the use of at-large elections when such an election system: “impairs the ability of a protected class to elect candidates of its choice or its ability to influence the outcome of an election.” The goal of the CVRA is to ensure Input, cont. on next pg.
