From the President’s Desk
Dear Friends, The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 can be definitely termed as the Third World War which started last year and we have been fighting it ever since. Just like the waves, this war has been splashing on the shores of country after country. The Pandemic also brought about positive transformations and opened a plethora of opportunities for change. It has enforced the need for societies to digitalize. Digital innovations have grown exponentially, and the timeline for digital adoption has been compressed from five years to eight weeks. The explosion of digital innovations and technologies has brought about opportunities to empower and improve the productivity across all businesses. Crises always lead people to find new ways to do things, adopt new technologies and cast away old practices. There are real grounds to be optimistic that, grim as the pandemic has been, it could open up progress across the world. The future will bring technology enhancements in virtual and augmented reality and AI that will allow people to live smarter, safer and more productive lives. We are mindful of these changes and there is now a need to help get our businesses back on track. Our various interactions with Ieema membership has been very fruitful and help us understand the needs of the stakeholders better. We understand and are working towards a better advocacy with the Government and helping accelerate change within Ieema. For this reason, we have appointed an experienced person as Deputy Director General, IEEMA. Mr Vineet Kumar Goyal whose twenty-three years of industry experience shall further strengthen IEEMA with his progressive Ideas. I request you to kindly extend him all the cooperation and also our best wishes for a long and successful innings at IEEMA.
July 2021
Change is the only constant. And one should welcome change with open arms. And with the superannuation of Mr Sunil Misra early July, it brings opportunities for fresh blood and fresh thinking, which I am sure the membership of Ieema will look forward to. In order to ensure smooth functioning during this transition as interim, the National Executive council (NEC) has appointed Mr J Pande, Deputy Director General as the Director General (Officiating) till the new Director General joins. There was an interesting session held on the T&D sector this month, the webinar witnessed the presence of more than 400 participants and everyone appreciated the fruitful discussion that took place during the webinar. The pain areas, opportunities and the optimism of the sector was highlighted during the three hour session. The month of July will witness more such programmes, meetings and interactions with other associations taking place. If you have any suggestions or feedback related to any of our activities you can write to me at president@ieema.org. Best Wishes
Anil Saboo

In depth EHV Cables: Moving from transmission to underground in urban areas The increased demand of electricity, need to optimise the utilisation of power generation capacity and increase in the interconnections are the major issues with which power sector is dealing with. Energy consumption per person is also rising tremendously in developing countries. Dense population, availability of land, initial and installation cost can be the major issues in this case. Huge transfer of power from generating plants to load centre at long distance with bulky transmission lines is causing to upgrade voltage class to Extra High Voltage (EHV) from High Voltage (HV).
