Why is that a worldwide event?
JUNI 2017
International Women's day is a worldwide event that is being celebrated for women's rights and gender equality every year.
It is hard to say when it began. The first International Women’s Day was recognized in 1911, since then we celebrate this day every year on March 8. Every year on this day, people celebrate the achievements of women with talks, arts performances, conferences and walks. But why do people do there? For years, people didn't see women as important as men and they did not show the respect they deserved, so women had to earn it themselves. It wasn't easy to change the perspective of society; they struggled for years. And 8 March International Women's Day is a day of honoring this great struggle. But despite this struggle, there is still no gender equality. Figures show that women are still in worse positions in education and health and there is still violence toward women. It doesn’t seem that important but it is one of the most significant days of the year. Women are as precious as men and they all have the same rights. They all cry, they all laugh. Thats why every year for this day a variety of activities are organized, to show them they all are the same. But these activities should not be enough. The every time important thing is to make them feel special every time. They are special every day, it doesn't change, it is the same every single day of the year. So we don't have to remember it only on this day. We can show it every day.

A Trip to The Heart of Mother Russia: MOSCOW For those who have never been to the alluring city that Moscow is, it is a city which doesn’t lose it’s charm in all seasons. It is a very cosmopolitan city and has preserved many historical remnants from various eras.Last time I was in Moscow, I had the aim to visit as many places of cultural heritage as possible, such as Red Square, Kremlin Palace, countless museums, Oruzheynaya Palata and Tretyakovskaya gallery etc. However, this time what I was seeking was knowledge and entertainment that I could only acquire in this mysterious city. Firstly, I would like to mention the unique urban planning and practical transportation system that is very efficient and displays a great deal of general knowledge about the chronological changes in society. You may wonder how something so trivial can be so effective at the same time but once you enter a metro station you get the gist of what I mean. They are a work of art; no wonder it is called the most beautiful subway in the world. Arbatskaya Station
In addition, they are a solution to one of the heaviest congestions on Earth, although it can’t be compared with Istanbul. The city has a form of three interbedded rings.I usually visited the inner ring, which is the city centre and the outer ring, which is generally reserved for newest constructions such as universities or old buildings. In the first three days of my stay I was constantly going to the third ring for a conference. The conference was what people call ‘’once in a lifetime experience’’. It was organized by Skolkovo Institute of Technology(a.k.a. Skoltech) and their partner MIT.The theme of the conference was Shaping the Future:Big Data,Biomedicine and Frontier Technologies. Although it was open to the public, I was the smallest participant there. It was packed with university students, doctors and different engineers. There I got to meet amazing people who shared their expertise and ideas towards the L. Rafael Reif making his speech future.Since I want to be doctor I mostly chose lectures at the beginning of the conference about biomedicine but also discovered a hidden passion about technology: it’s mechanical development. The professors came from different countries and universities. They were from Germany, America,Russia and some other European countries. I have learned so much about scientific developments and how they have a huge relation to modern-day business. Indeed it made me realize what a small position my home-country holds in global industry, research and innovation in comparison to leading nations. 6
DIE LUPE
JUNI 2017
Furthermore, there was an additional lecture specifically for university students about the right path of getting a career, which I found very useful and totally changed my viewpoint about my future plans and left me perplexed. The title of the conference says it all, from a perspective,it really shaped my future. After long hours of sitting and listening to the professors I eventually wanted to wander around the centre. Subsequent to taking many The Lenkom Theater photos of the city, watching a rock-opera in one of most the prosperous theaters in Moscow, Lenkom Theater, was just the icing on the cake. The libretto ’’Юнона и Авось(Juno and Avos)’’ itself was a masterpiece with distinguished choreography and musical features which captivated the entire hall. The love story of Nikolai Rezanov, a Russian nobleman, and Maria Concepción Argüello (Conchita)the 16-year-old daughter of the Spanish governor, is said to be based on real events of 1806,. “Юнона” and “Авось” are the names of the two ships used by Rezanov to fulfill his life goal which is an expedition from Alaska to (then Spanish) California to bring food supplies for the starving Russian colonies. As he leaves(Spanish) California, though, Conchita begs him to let her go with him, he promises to return to her no matter what the casualty is;though he didn't expect it to be death. Sadly, the rumors of his death reach Conchita after 30 years of waiting.Of course the main message is that love is universal and timeless, recalling the words from the Epilogue of the opera : "In the midst of quarrels and feast we've forgotten why we've come her to Earth at all.Hallelujah to Love Hallelujah…’’
On the last day of my visit I went to an iconic convention which is well-known to all comic book lovers, artist and cosplayers From left to right Fernando internationally; The Comic Con. Three Lopes,Conchita,Nikolai Rezanov respectively words are enough to describe it; epic, dynamic and exotic. I have never in my entire life seen such a vivid and diverse crowd in one place. It is such a pity that I could only attend for one day but I will never forget how much fun I had. There is nothing I appreciate more than art and there were probably around a hundred artist selling their work and drawing requests. I bought some of them but I regret not bringing more money that day, it simply was an amateurish mistake of mine. İf you are as addicted to art as I am, there one can not just decide what to purchase. There were also workshops where professional comic writers tutored the guests more specifically on how to find their own style, how to get officially started and publishing. 7

I want to publish a webcomic, hopefully this summer I will, hence I was especially worried about the publishing but these sessions helped me in clarifying all of my questions.Furthermore, the theme of this years Comic Con was Cyber World, which included many video game tournaments like Overwatch, Counter Strike, Final Fantasy XV for those who are into them. The convention also included an exhibition of cars used in movies like Transformers, Fast and Furious and Back to the Future.Last but not least, there was a cosplayer contest. Interestingly adults are much more into this. Overall, the jury consisted of The Juries of the League of Cosplay
famous cosplayers and an actor. They rated competitors in different categories. To sum it up, Moscow is a city with many assets which must be taken into consideration, thus you must do a research of places which you would like to go beforehand. Also be sure to check some sites ,such as VDNH, where you can find out a lot of information on upcoming Expos, concerts etc.You definitely won’t get bored here as every single day is lively. In Moscow you can catch some spectacular views especially at night time as the city illuminates the sky itself…
These are by far my favorites…

3D Printing and modern designing workshop (18.01.2017) After the interesting and attention seeking conference about designing in the 21. century by Eli Bensusan, who is an industrial designer, the students of the ninth and tenth grades came together for a " product design and three dimensional printing" workshop. Mr. Bensusan showed the students what ideas and methods are behind famous products and the importance of thinking and developing an idea. First, every student created a mind map and connected different ideas, which are connected to their personal interests. The next step was developing the ideas and coming up with a product which is unique, special and personal if possible. Many of us got to know what it is like to be a designer and how difficult it can be to think. After sketching the products we transferred them to a digital three dimensional platform and finally printed them. Finally, every student wrote a short paragraph, introducing their product and explaining the story and the thinking behind it. After the whole project, our art teacher Mrs. Yap覺c覺 made an exhibition out of our work, which is in the entrance hall of the school. I would like to thank Mr. Bensusan for the great workshop, Mrs. Yap覺c覺 for her support and all the students.

4. E T P Conference! Can, Bora and I already had an interest in programming. When we bought the TI-Nspire calculators all we did was to try to find how to program them. We used to tell and teach each other when we found new features of the TI-Nspire. After some trials and research, we finally managed to learn the programming language of TI-Nspire calculator, so called “TI-Basic”. We always programmed new things in order to improve our knowledge in mathematics whether it is games or math functions. Although we first thought of using it in the exams to make everything easier, it helped us learn the topic after all. Everything was ordinary up until our maths teacher Mrs. Rüya Doğan told us that there was a conference called “ETP17 (Eğitim Teknolojileri Platformu 17)” coming up and that we could present our programs there. We were first a bit worried because she told us that we would be the only students ever to present something there. It sounded a bit scary, but also pretty cool so we accepted it. We already had programmed ours, so the only thing left was preparing a presentation and presenting it. So we started to think about things to say and how to explain how our programs worked. We first chose the most useful programs that we would show and then sorted them in order of 10th Grade Mathematics topics. We decided that everyone would present their own programs. We chose the slope, parabola, interception parabola and roots programs. After the many rehearsals and hard work, the day had come. When we all arrived at Kavram Meslek Yüksekokulu on 25th March 2017, we continued practising because we wanted our presentation to be perfect. Also, as the first students ever to present something in the ETP Conference, it was normal for us to have a few of worries. One of our worries was that no one would come to see our presentation because it was our first time. There were more than ten people watching our presentation. It may not sound like much but it was pretty good considering the total number of visitors and the size of the room. At the end of the presentation everyone clapped and said that they really liked us and that they would like to see us again in ETP18. There was even one teacher who wanted to know more about programming the TI-Nspire, so she took our e-mail adresses. At the end of the day everything was fine and we were proud of ourselves because we achieved something and had an opportunity to show our knowledge in the world of programming.

COMPETITON JOURNEY DI CLUB KUŞADASI EXPERIENCE As three DI groups we started our DI experience at the beginning of the year. We built teams and we were mentored by our teachers. There were many areas in which we could compete. First of all, we read the manuals and decided on what to choose. Group “DIIC”, which was mentored by Sinan Koca, chose Technical Challenge. The Techincal Challenge prompts students to complete tasks by using engineering, research, strategic planning and related skills. Group “The Saga of DI Meadows”, which was mentored by Yasemin Avcı, chose Engineering Challenge. The Engineering Challenge involved teams designing, building and testing different types of structures that are made out of varying materials. Group “Drama Queens and an Expection”, which was mentored by Rüya Doğan, chose Fine Arts Challenge. In the Fine Arts Challenge, students flex their acting and artistic muscles as they explore and create together. Throughout the year, our teams worked a lot and were ready to compete in Kuşadası in order to be able to go to the global finals in the U.S.A. Competition took place on 11th and 12th of March. Our teams performed excellent work and did well at instant challenge. Despite all the bad luck, we completed this year’s DI journey with a great experience. We had so much fun and now we have good memories to always remember.

FIRST YEAR OF DI POLLAND FOR THE DI CLUB
Other than the local competition all around the world, there is an international DI contest in Poland. The contest contains an extreme challenge, in which a mission is given 24 hours before performing and an instant challenge. We discussed whether to participate or not and the ones, who were willing to represent our school there, wanted to go to Poland. The competiton took place on 17,18 and 19th of March. We were two teams there and had the oppurtunity to meet new cultures and people. When the extreme challenge was given, we tried to spend all of our time to complete the mission perfectly. We even stayed up all night long. Every team had a buddy team and the aim of having buddy teams is to build an interaction between Polish and other cultures. After the extreme challenge, we were expected to complete the instant challenge, where all teams were asked to build the tallest tower from different materials. After all these challenges, we were tired and wanted to explore Polish traditions. We had free time, when we wandered around the city. At the end of the journey we met new people, had the chance to build a bridge between Polish and Turkish cultures and had an excellent experience. 14

Boston university tour and entrepreneurship As most of you might know, İELEV High School planned a school trip to Boston, Massachusetts with three schools which are Istanbul Erkek, Vefa, and MEF High Schools. As one of the students, who joined in this trip, I am delighted to share my experience with you. The trip was accompanied by Hülya Turan, Serhat Gürgün and Erhan Erkut. Even before we were in Boston, we had to do our research and know who were going to meet in order to ask them questions and make this trip as productive as possible. Massachusetts is famous for its wellknown universities and how educated people are. Compared to New York you are not valued by how you dress or look; you are valued by how smart and intellectual you are. We noticed it the moment we got off the plane. We went to some places, which we could only have dreamed of before this amazing trip.
The universities we went to were Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston University and Harvard University. Some of the best universities in the whole world. Also we visited McGovern Institute for Brain Research, Mass General Hospital, Harvard T.H. and Chan School of Public Health. The best research centers we could ever see. 15

Not only was it an academic trip, it was also a trip for teaching us about entrepreneurship and how we can become future entrepreneurs. For that we visited Mass Challenge a challenge which is supportive of young entrepreneurs who have promising ideas. We visited Cambridge Innovation Center, which can be easily described by saying it is an office rent place. After some time you need some resources in order to succeed in entrepreneurship such as a meeting place, the right people network and so on. Cambridge Innovation Center is the best place for improving entrepreneurs and Start-up companies. It was one of my favorite places which we visited. We also visited MIT Launch, another place for young entrepreneurs. You can apply to it also as a summer school. You will improve your Startup company and after that some of the most successful Startups will present their ideas to judges and the best ideas will be rewarded. We have also met with a lot of amazing people, who are incredibly successful in their work areas. Most of us agreed that the most inspiring person was Canan DaÄ&#x;deviren. She was the first Turkish person to be chosen as a Junior Fellow at the Society of Fellows at Harvard University. Although she is only 32 years old right now, she has accomplished a lot and she is a crucial person for the medical industry. Everyone who attended the Boston trip agreed on the fact that this school trip was one of the best trips we could ever have had. It was both productive and highly enjoyable. Next year Ä°ELEV is planning to organize another one of these trips. I highly recommend that every student should at least go once on a trip like this one.

Programming with Nişantepe Secondary School Programing is one of the main skills which is required in our modern day. Whether applying to university or for a job, people appreciate it when you mention you know one of the programing languages. Not only is it highly important, it is also, very enjoyable to know. As IELEV High School we wanted to give this opportunity to other kids who might not have the chance of learning programming on their own. Mrs. Doğan as you all know is one of our mathemathics teachers. She came up with the idea of teaching younger kids programming. Our middle school has already a maker lab and the ones who are interested in programming can easily get help. But another school, which is really close to our school is Nişantepe Secondary School. We contacted them about teaching some of their fifth graders about programming and teaching them how it is important for our world. We didn't want to miss any of our lessons because we were already missing a lot of our lessons due to our clubs and social service. That is why we decided to do this once a week in our long break which is for lunch. It was so enjoyable to teach kids who understand this well that we didn't even hesitate to miss our lunch break once a week. It started with a group of around twenty students and we were twelve students. We started with the Scrath Junior, as it was the best to start with. They understood better than we had ever expected. Although the application and the programming language was highly related to English, it didn't bother them to learn this fast. Of course we were always there to explain what they hadn't understood. It may seem impossible to teach people who don't know English an Englishbased programming language, but we didn't know if it was because they were so young, they got it so fast. We even had to change our plans because they were so fast. Next we adapted our plans to match the speed of these kids’ learning. So we started teaching them Tynker. First it was just from our IPads but they were not getting as advanced as the kids we were teaching, so we decided to use the computer lab in our school. They handled Tynker amazingly successfully as well. Seeing such successful kids and seeing how they were enjoying programming and not an obligation for their future was great. They even started that programming felt as a game, which was more challenging and interesting compared to other online games. But as all good things must end, the programming club had to end due to our coming exams and the summer holiday. We are sure that it will continue next semester, but with these kids getting so good at programming, we might have to improve ourselves.

WAS İST EİGENTLİCH UNTERNEHMERTUM?
Meine sehr geehrten Leser!

2. Was bedeutet Unternehmertum für Sie?

Key to success in open-ended (free response) questions Do you believe in the changing of the university placement exam’s questions from Multiple choice to open-ended (free response) will be a good regulation for the students who will take the exam? And what is important for this regulation to be successful?
I believe the timing of this new regulation is very important. Since the students are working for an exam which contains only Multiple choice question, changing the exam’s structure at the very last minute can cause problems. A reason for that would be students’ way of studying and learning. Their mindsets will be all about the Multiple choice questions, which is a relatable situation since they have been taught to do so for
more than three years, and changing the exam for them could have bad outcomes such as decreasing their success. However, if the new regulation will be for the ninth graders, it will serve its purpose because they will be taught how to answer a question with their own ideas and, hopefully, won’t be restricted. In brief; for the new regulation to be successful, it has to be done at the right time with right teaching systems rather than to be implemented too early.
What about the schools? What do you think they have to do to teach the new exam structure?
First of all, adaptation is really important. Both for the teachers and MEB books’ question structure. Teachers have to be taught how to teach the new system to the students without controlling their ideas but channeling them; and also MEB books have to be changed. Since the students will be taking a different exam, the books have to be harmonized with the exam structure. These are the most important points that schools have to pay attention to.

Do you believe this new regulation will help the students to increase their success and provide more reliable results to universities?
I do because open-ended questions are for evaluating students’: genuine and creative thinking, written expression skills, foresight in specific topics and ability to analyse. Students won’t be repeating what they have been thaught but reflecting upon what they have understood and how they use the pieces of information; and that would show to universities how the mindset of a student works rather than how good the student’s memory is. I believe this will provide more reliable results to universities. What kind of questions should be asked in this exam? What should their specifications and particulars be?
First and foremost, the questions’ variety must be increased. With the numerical questions the questions root is mostly “how much” and with the verbal questions it is “what?”. These kind of question roots are not very diverse and not good for students’ originality. They are archaic, and inadequate and basic. If a good answer is desired, then there must be good questions to be answered. And will this new regulation also be helpful to the students who are taking international exams such as PISA or TIMSS?
Yes, it will, because in these kinds of exams students are required to find the steps of the solving process or to use the formulas given and find the results. Since the formulas are already given to the students it is only about knowing how to use them efficiently and correctly rather than just memorizing them. Thus, the open-ended questions will be more helpful to students to understand the required features in international terms. What are the qualifications and features of an “ideal student”?
An ideal student is one who has a curious and open mind, a hunger for knowledge in several fields, not just her/his own communication and self-expression skills, respect for divergent ideas and a sense of social, political and environmental responsibility towards the world in general and the society in particular in which she/he lives.

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Breakfast at Tiffany's is a 1961-made sweet-romantic comedy film, which is based on Truman Capota's novella. Iconic Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard star as the main characters Holly Golightly and Paul Varjak. This sophisticated classy love story's effrontery is our charming, old fashioned, free-spirited heroine Holly's slowly-progressing interest in the young man who moves into her building, even if he is not that interesting. The fact that Holly has actually a fake personality does not change the way Paul feels about her and he draws into her world. But after all, a woman with that many secrets can be heartbreaking and tedious. Will they be together despite everything? Even if the plot seems not that very original, the sound track and the iconic acting of Audrey Hepburn gives the specialties, which make this movie an artistic masterpiece. Hepburn gives the impression of a truly free-spirited, rebel - however also wounded and vulnerable- woman perfectly. Besides, the soundtrack called '' Moon River'' by Hennry Manchini, fascinate the viewers with its fine jazz solos and lovely lyrics, and at the same time makes the movie highly dramatic and bitter-sweet. I highly recommend this film, especially if you are into romance classics. It would be the perfect film to watch to witness a complicated love story with a woman hard to get. Smuggle in your bed, take a hot cup of tea and enjoy a perfectly setted romance in the fascinating Manhattan streets. 27

WHAT MAKES A GOOD MOVÄ°E?
(ACCORDÄ°NG TO A 16 YEAR OLD GÄ°RL)
"A good movie" is a really fluid term that easily changes from person to person or even sometimes according to what we feel or our age. We have key components to determine and categorise movies. These components have an order of importance. Many people first check out if the plot is interesting enough. Some people are obsessed with adaptions and whether they are a hundred percent accurate. I, personally, find these details unimportant. These are mostly on the surface, but they do not provide a magical movie experience. A good movie mesmerises you and has everything it talks about. It has a slightly magical and mysterious nature. The atmosphere created should be perfect so that it captures us and comes more than just a time spent on listening to a story. Really good movies are able to get us, in that story as if we are living it. This effect is not easy to create. I do think that it has nothing to do with the story it is telling us nor do I think that it is about how much money was spent on it. It is about the way the movie channels the story. I believe that one of the key components is the perspective the director has and the ability of the visual director to fuse that perspective to their own and provide a good shot. Since this is a movie and what we focus at first is the visuals, so I believe the importance of the visual perspective is crucial here. Whether it's the use of colors or the placement of the camera, this gives the movie a certain depth. A depth that the murder scene in American Beauty has but a murder scene in Hunger Games does not have. The beautifully placed colors that The Grand Budapest Hotel has done and the boring black and white The Artist tried to incorporate into the plot to emphasise the time period, but could not manage. Another important component for me is the music. Music on its own is a beautifully magical form of art and the right music in a good movie takes everything to a whole new level.

Some movies have become so infused with their music that it is not even possible to think about them without thinking about the soundtrack. Nolan's Inception and its infamous song, Time have become inseparatable. Mission Impossible reminds us of the theme music before anything else. Influential music of Requiem For A Dream, The Godfather... Most people know Pulp Ficton only through it's theme song. We can easily say that music is definitely important in the course of movies. Sometimes it is even definitive.
I watched the mostly hated movie of 2016, Batman v Superman, at the cinema because I believed that it would be a movie worth watching. I was disappointed in the plot and the general tone of the movie. What made me endure and even enjoy it a little was the soundtrack. The music was pure magic which shouldn't have been a surprise since the soundtrack was put together by Hans Zimmer(Inception) and Junkie XL(300: Rise Of An Empire). Another example would be the new trailer of Thor: Ragnarok that convinced me to watch the movie. The visuals were amazing even though the makeup was ridiculous. The thing that got me the most was the background music, The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. It suited the trailer perfectly and even the name of the song was a good match for the movie. The last but not least key component for me is the acting, of course. The way the actors reflect the story, their gestures and the way they get into character is really important; since they are the vehicles that tell us the story. The reason why the Dark Knight is famous is because of the Joker character, how well it was played, the method acting that Heath Ledger chose to use and the mystery of Ledger's death. Some movies are even built solely on the characters of the story. Last year's controversial movie, The Revenant was one of them. Even though I did not find the movie a masterpiece, Leonardo DiCaprio's and Tom Hardy's acting is successfully capturing. Another example would be a Turkish movie from Nuri Bilge Ceylan, whose movies are not satisfying or interesting enough for everyone, KÄąĹ&#x; Uykusu. The most amazing scene of the movie, the one where the main character has a chat with his sister, is a perfect example how the actors alone could bring a whole new level to a movie.
The next time while watching a movie, I suggest that you also should examine it and decide on your key components of a good movie. That helps you to determine your taste in movies and decide if you want to watch the movie or not.

New Sport-art the of Future: E-Sports Our Earth has seen many different inventions science the creation of humans. These inventions have changed our Earth in many different ways. In my article, the invention I would like to talk about is Sport.
Sport has been a factor in our lives from the first ages to today. Our descendants are our history as the people who set the foundations of some of today's sports. Many sports, such as archery, horse riding and even football and basketball are important discoveries human history. What will be the innovative sports of the future?
E-Sports, seen as one of the most important of these sports branches, can be seen as playing sports by playing games that require various strategies in an electronic and virtual platform with the simplest definition. Even though it does not look like much sport, ESports, which has a huge player and audience size, continues to develop rapidly. The main reason for being seen as a sport is that it requires reflex and brain use together with physical and mental skills. In addition, a respected sports field for teamwork and discipline, and games aimed at strategic and team play in research, have been shown to strengthen and benefit the brain.

The e-sports sector is not only a rapidly growing industry but also a sport that has begun to conquer the whole world. People of all ages follow this sport and enjoy it. A special reason for this excitement is that inter-country games are also taking place on the E- Sports platform. At present, the idol of all E-Sports followers is Korean teams. Korea is a team that dominates their tournaments with the games they have shown so far and a big investment has started to take place in the direction of E-Sports. The secret of Korea's success is that they give importance to E-sports. Korea is a country that has started to lead other countries in this way and became a pioneer. American and European countries have started to invest in E-Sports and developed rapidly. These countries established their own leagues and new teams were established. New players have been discovered and supported. Even in this newly developed sport, team-mate player transfers are taking place and teams are paying big bucks for these players. The viewers are following these news closely with a huge passion. These teams clash in the leagues and win high amounts of prizes. People who are interested in E-Sports, according to some people, waste their time but they actually develop themselves. These people actually work for a goal and want to achieve it. A large number of E-Sportsmen is also growing in our country and the potential of these players has to be developed. However, people are unaware of this situation and some skilled young players disappear without being discovered. If E-Sports is regarded as a real sport and gets the importance it deserved, players can develop themselves. Although it seems to be only a waste of time for the time being, there is absolutely no doubt that great innovations are waiting for us in the future.
