WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT If you are reading this message, it means that the International Academy has overcome innumerable obstacles and found a way to stage an in person gala for the awarding of Emmys to the best international programs of 2021. We have, of course, taken every precaution possible. Everyone in this room has been vaccinated and has achieved a negative result on a covid test. We are delighted to welcome so many of you to New York City. Of course, not everyone who wanted to, could be here tonight. The United States still bars many people from entering the country. Some of our members understandably worry about quarantine requirements when they return home. So this year, for the first time, and hopefully the last time, we are presenting a hybrid Gala. Everyone around the world who was nominated for an International Emmy is with us today, either here in person or via virtual link from their home country and, in many cases, their home itself. All of our nominees will be recognized, and the winners will be able to give acceptance speeches. Of course, if you are reading this in the Casa Cipriani ballroom, and you win, you will have a chance to mount our iconic stage and give your acceptance speech there. Throughout this year, despite all the obstacles, we ran International Emmy judgings around the world, and when the results were tabulated we had nominees from 24 different countries, a new record, and the end result of a multi-year effort to get more entries from more places around the globe. Over the next few years, as the pandemic recedes and we are all able to resume full and less complicated travel, it is my hope that the number of entries and the number of represented countries will increase dramatically. We now live in a world of streaming and many other forms of program distribution, and those opportunities, and the money to finance them, will mean more and better programs and more opportunities to win an International Emmy. So thank you for being here tonight and betting with us on a return to a more normal and more exciting world.

2021 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS GALA HOST YVONNE ORJI ACTRESS & COMEDIAN Emmy® nominated Nigerian American actress and comedian Yvonne Orji is the co-star of Insecure and host of Prime Video’s second Yearly Departed comedy special which will air on December 23. Orji is known for her 1-hour Stand-Up Special and performance as Issa Rae’s best friend and fan favorite, “Molly” on the HBO comedy series, Insecure which garnered her an Emmy Nomination for best supporting actress. Her 1 Hour Stand-Up Special, Momma, I Made It was shot in the two places Yvonne called home while growing up, Washington DC and Nigeria. Prior to the taping, she embarked on a domestic tour which included sold out shows in New York and Los Angeles. She has opened for Chris Rock in a number of venues across the country including Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center. Her debut book, Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me into the Life of My Dreams, was released in spring of 2020. In addition to Yvonne’s work on camera, she is executive producing an autobiographical comedy entitled First Gen which is currently in development at Disney+.

Yearly Departed will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in December in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Orji hosts the second edition of this comedy special bringing together a roster of all female comics to roast the year.

THOMAS BELLUT, DIRECTOR GENERAL, ZDF Dr. Thomas Bellut, Director General of German national broadcaster ZDF, one of Europe’s major and most renowned public broadcasters, will receive this year’s International Academy’s 2021 Directorate Emmy® Award. The special Emmy is presented in recognition of his outstanding leadership of ZDF and for his 30-year career as an outstanding journalist, broadcaster and executive, who has made an important mark on television in Germany and beyond. Bellut became director general of German public television broadcaster ZDF in 2012, after serving as the company’s program director for a decade and before that as correspondent and managing editor in the news division, for over 25 years. Since his appointment at the helm of the channel and for the first time in history, ZDF is market leader - unchallenged for the last 10 years. With its classic and digital programs, ZDF reaches most of German society. Therefore, the public broadcaster is an important support for democracy in many ways, financially well-funded, but independent of politics and economy. Bellut strengthened information programs in all their guises. He also made quality dramas a priority while continuing to produce popular non-scripted shows, including major global success and International Emmy winner Generation War; the 1950s-set miniseries Ku’damm 59; and long-running natural-history and science

On behalf of ZDF, ZDF Enterprises, of which Thomas Bellut is Chairman, is responsible for worldwide program sales, the implementation of international co-productions, license purchasing for quality programs, marketing online rights and the merchandising of strong ZDF program brands. In addition to its commercial activities for ZDF, ZDF Enterprises has also been able to establish itself successfully as an independent market player in both national and international environments. ZDF is based in Mainz, but also maintains permanent bureaus in the 16 Länder capitals as well as special editorial and production facilities in Berlin. For international coverage, ZDF has foreign correspondents operating in 19 permanent bureaus worldwide. ZDF offers fullrange generalist programming with a mix of information, education, arts, entertainment and sports. This year ZDF marks the 60th anniversary of the organization’s founding. The Directorate Award is presented by Former NBA player, Dirk Nowitzki Throughout his Hall of Fame-caliber career, Dirk Nowitzki helped globalize the game of basketball and redefined what it means to be a franchise player. The Würzburg, Germany native became the first European-born player to win MVP in 2007 and the first European to start an All-Star Game that same year. Four years later, he would earn Finals MVP honors after leading the Dallas Mavericks to their first championship. Nowitzki became the first player in NBA history to play 21 seasons for one franchise, breaking nearly every franchise record for the Mavericks along the way. Nowitzki’s impact off the floor, however, is just as great. In 2001, Nowitzki launched The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation, which awards grants annually to organizations focusing on children’s wellbeing, health, and education. In 2019, he and wife Jessica Nowitzki were named honorary chairs of North Texas Giving Day, where they helped raise a record-setting $50 million for North Texas nonprofits. In 2013, Dirk was named German ambassador for UNICEF with a focus to promote a healthy lifestyle and fight malnutrition throughout the world.

JUDGING THE ACADEMY WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE 2021 SEMI-FINAL HOSTS, JURORS & SEMI-FINAL COORDINATORS This Summer, the Semi-Final Round of Judging for the 2021 International Emmy® Awards competition took place mostly online. From June to September, 34 Member companies hosted Jury panels. Our Hosts spanned 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, PR China, Russia, South Africa, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. The online judgings powered by Frame.io, the video review and collaboration platform. Semi-final Rounds of Judging are not only a crucial step in the judging process, but also a great networking opportunity for the Host, and for Jurors invited to participate in the competition. Jurors, selected by the Academy in collaboration with the Host, are television professionals involved in all sectors of the industry. Hosts have the opportunity to
