No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. - Aesop
Overview The International Furnishings and Design Association of New England (IFDA-NE) and the Take A Seat Planning Committee are preparing the 2017 Take A Seat series of events to benefit four select charitable organizations. This year’s Fifth International Annual Event will once again highlight the work of area design professionals and their contributions to the community. Architects, builders, craftsmen, and designers are invited to either up-cycle a chair or craft a new chair from repurposed materials and submit it for display in the Take A Seat Traveling Exhibit (May 2-23, 2017) and at the Gala (June 1, 2017). The chair will be sold in the Gala’s auction to benefit one of four pre-selected charitable organizations. Students of the trade are encouraged to submit a chair as well. IFDA-NE is honored to have New England Home magazine return as Take A Seat’s media sponsor for a second year. Their support and dedication to our organization has genuinely helped make this event a great success.
I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.

Expect The Unexpected 2017 ushers in a new twist on IFDA-NE’s Take A Seat events. For the first time, four Diamond Patrons will choose a chair designer with whom they will collaborate on the design of a chair to submit for this year’s Take A Seat. These Patrons will have the opportunity to personally select a 501c3 charity to benefit from the proceeds of the auction. The Diamond Patrons and their charities will be named at a Designer and Charity Debut celebration in March, 2017. Following the Debut party, architects, builders, craftsmen, designers and students can craft and submit their own designer chair for inclusion in the 2017 award-winning series of Take A Seat events. They also will be able to choose one of the four charities to benefit from the proceeds from the sale of their chair. IFDA-NE will host four traveling exhibits with a champagne kick-off and a private press preview at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams’ Boston showroom on May 2, 2017. The remaining three traveling exhibits will be announced shortly. The Take A Seat Gala will be hosted at Royale, located in the historic theater district and the epicenter of downtown Boston. Built in 1918 this former opera house boasts a gigantic 33,000 square foot venue with one of the largest indoor LED walls in the New England Area (9ft tall x 16ft wide 10mm LED wall). The Gala will offer a silent auction and a live auction, in addition to gourmet fare served by attending chefs, live entertainment, and VIP seating.
The test of a civilization is in the way that it cares for its helpless members.

All For A Good Cause Over the past two years, this event has raised over $30,000 dollars in New England for select charities. We know we can raise much more in 2017! We’ll start by raising $10,000 in collaboration with our Diamond Patrons*. Next, we’ll launch our Take A Seat designer chairs in an exciting bid-by-smart-phone silent auction at the Gala. The designer chair with the highest bid for each charity in the silent auction will be placed into the live auction along with the Diamond Patron chairs. And just to make the evening more interesting, we’ve added four elaborate experience packages to the live auction! The proceeds of the first package will go toward the charity of choice for the Diamond Patron who attracted the most silent auction chair designers to their charity. The second package benefits the Diamond Patron’s charity who attracted the most ticket sales; while the third package benefits the Diamond Patron’s charity who attracted the highest bid for their chair. The last package will benefit the Diamond Patron’s charity who attracted the highest bids for their charity from the silent auction. At the end of the evening, our goal is to make a notable impact for four well-deserving charities. *Reference the Diamond Premium Patron Sponsorship details for more information.
