Dear IFDA Colleagues, As incoming IFDA New England president, I want to first thank you and our Board members for the faith and trust you all have placed in me. I look forward to 2017, working with our board, building on the accomplishments of the last three years under past president Karen Dzendolet and continue making IFDA-NE, a chapter that serves you and your needs. We are very excited about the upcoming year! The Board has been busy putting together a strong calendar of events. Take a Seat is once again headlining and raising the visibility of IFDA NE here in New England and nationally. Jennifer Driscoll, our VP of Programing , along with the help of the Take A Seat committee has put together a fantastic series of events that not only highlights the design excellence here in New England, but will benefit different charities this year. We are particularly indebted to our sponsors, both Annual and Event, without whose contributions none of this would be possible! Please consider designing a chair, hosting an event or becoming a sponsor. We can’t do this without you - our fantastic New England design community.
LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT
In closing I’d like to point out that we are always looking for new members and can really use all of your help in recruiting them. I would also like to encourage existing members to consider getting involved either on the Board (we have a few openings) or on committees. I am committed to making your Membership a valuable and worthwhile experience, one from which you get satisfaction and of which you are proud. I look forward to seeing you at our events and working together to make IFDA-NE stronger, better and a reflection of you.
Chris Magliozzi 2017 New England Chapter President
Sincerely,
Chris Magliozzi 3

IFDA-New England is pleased to announce their participation in the fifth-annual international “Take a Seat” Traveling Exhibition and Gala, showcasing unique chairs from local designers. This is the third year that the New England chapter is taking part in the charitable event, having raised over $30,000 since 2015. ‘Take a Seat’ features up-cycled, one of a kind chairs designed by local architects, builders, craftsmen and students of the furnishing and design industry. It aims to provide them with a platform to display their inventive and resourceful prowess, promote their craft, all while giving back to the community. Participants will design and create a chair, inspired by their own style and interests, which will then be displayed throughout the Greater Boston area on a traveling exhibition from May 2nd to May 23rd, before being auctioned off at the ‘Take a Seat’ Gala on June 1st. This year’s series of events bring significant changes to the program, aimed at benefiting a broader range of those in need. Diamond level designers will be given the opportunity to raise money for the 501c3 charity of their choice. These designers and their sponsors will be unveiled at the Designer and Charity Debut on March 21st.. Their chairs will be sold in a live auction at the ‘Take a Seat’ Gala. Following the announcement of the charities, all other participants will be able to designate which

In Review... Community service is part of IFDA’s raison d’etre. In January, volunteers were recruited to paint the 13 foot high lobbies - all three of them - at the North Star Learning Center, a converted school building which houses 12 apartments for families with children and the learning center which supplies services to tenants and the larger New Bedford community. Paint was donated by Benjamin Moore and equipment was donated by Herrick & White, FBN Construction, and National Lumber/Kitchen Views. The lobbies received a fresh coat of lavender, sage green and sea foam blue.
