WHO WE ARE ? The International Federation of Medical Student Association is a nongovernmental, non profitable organization .IFMSA-Iraq has the full membership within the international federation of medical student association .The international federation of medical student associations was established in 1951 in Denmark and it’s considered to be one of the oldest and largest organisations officially ruled and fully controlled by students themselves as it represents and connects 1.4 million students from 127 different countries around the world. In Iraq the association was established in 2012 and in 2018-2019 the association has more than 5000 Iraqi students from 15 different Iraqi cities.

VISION VisionIt aims for a small Iraq of medical students where students can connect under one umbrella in order to share their ideas and could be able to reach a better understanding of the worldwide medical issues.

MISSION It aims to unit medical students to lead positively effective projects in our community that we serve.IFMSAIraq represents the ideas and ambition of health Iraqi leaders, in addition the association provides their members with trainings, Exchange programs, to gain the important skills to reach a better health care system in the near future that will reflect positively on our country's future and development.

SCOPE Welcome to SCOPE!

The Standing Committee On Professional exchange The Professional Exchange program is a full educational program offering clerkships to medical students abroad, to discover new health systems, new cultures and to enhance their global health and intercultural understanding.The aim of SCOPE is to promote cultural understanding and co-operation amongst medical students and all health professionals, through the facilitation of international student exchanges.

Annually, around 13.000 students from more than 90 countries travel around the world

FAQ .Who is able to go for an exchange? All medical students who study in Iraqi universities.

Yearly there are more than 20 different countries from all over the continent available to host Iraqi medical students in their hospitals, labs, different research facilities, comfortable accommodation, delicious traditional food and unforgettable social programs.


SCOPH



SCOPH The Standing Committee on Public Health brings together medical students from all over the world to learn, build skills, cooperate, explore and share ideas when it comes to addressing all issues related to public health, including global health issues, health policies, health promotion and education, activities.

2018-2019 chillax Project (mental health) that reached 150 public, 100 primary and secondary school students, and 30 medical students. They were all educated about mental health and its stigma.

2019-2020 IFMSA-Iraq SCOPH collaboration with UNICEF and UK aid in SCoV battle project about COVID-19 pandemic that we reached 44k people in physical events, 200 medical students in online sessions, 240 rollups, 4k booklets, 1117 pre & post-Knowledge, Attitude, Practice KAP survey to assess general public awareness on COVID-19 prevention methods, and 3.5 M general public on social media.

SCOPH aims to promote the development of medical students worldwide regarding Public Health issues through an international sharing knowledge network, projects management, community-based learning, capacity building, advocacy, exchanges placements and access to external learning opportunities.

Any registered member can be a SCOPHero by active participation in SCOPH events and projects in their Local Committee (LC).


SCORP



SCORP Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace We have a vision of a peaceful world where all individuals are entitled to full and equal access to their human rights, where no one is left behind.We aim to empower and motivate medical students to actively promote and protect human rights and peace through advocacy, capacity building and awareness raising and campaigns to help the vulnerable groups.

Majeena: is a physical campaign we hold in IFMSA-Iraq in all LCs at the month of Ramadan to help vulnerable families and last year in a timeline of 3 months, we distributed 1752 food baskets to vulnerable groups.

TWOT (Together We will Overcome This): An online campaign aims to raising awareness and increase our members knowledge about COVID-19 stigmatization and discrimination through sessions in all LCs in addition to a social media campaign.

SCORA The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS (SCORA) is a gathering of passionate individuals who are committed to promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and committed to creating positive change in their communities.

SCORA Week is a SCORA national activity and one of the biggest SCORA activities in IFMSA-Iraq 2019. It included 5 days of online campaign and 2 days workshop. Which had 4 SCORA sessions and Capacity Building Training. This project hosted more than 50 participants from 7 different LCs.

-House of cards is a national SCORA project of IFMSA-Iraq inspired by the playing cards game, therefore we created 4 online workshops, each one tackled 1 focused area to inspire our SCORAngels in such a creative way in the quarantine days.The project lasted for 10 days gathering over 75 participants from 14 different LCs. Each workshop was named after a card suit (Spades, Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds).

-National Violence to Victory (nV2V) is a national SCORA training of IFMSA-Iraq that tackles gender-based violence from different approaches. It dives into the details of the historic aspects and social factors of gender-based violence and introduces a human rights-based approach strategy to tackle gender-based violence in different situations especially in Iraq for future healthcare providers, The training lasted for more than 16 hours over four days and delivered by 4 IFMSA internationally certified facilitators.

What is SCORA X-Change (SXC)?

SCORA X-Change (SXC) is a unilateral exchange program for IFMSA members focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. The goal of SXC is to provide the participants with information about the social and health care situation and strategies of the hosting country on the previously mentioned topics; emphasizing the importance of global health as well as encouraging intercultural exchange and discussions between them.

Who can apply to SCORA X-Change (SXC)? Any IFMSA-Iraq member can apply to SCORA X-Change (including Dental and Pharmacy students

SCOME Standing Committee on Medical Education Medical Education should be a concern of every medical student as it shapes not only the quality of future doctors but also the quality of healthcare. Through all our joint efforts we work to create sustainable changes around the world, for ourselves as medical students, for the generations to come and for our future patients and our communities who are in fact the final beneficiaries of our education.

-Iraqi Mentoring Program This program was established in summer 2018,This program aims to support the Iraqi students in the specialty they are interested in, and to support the scarce of specialties in Iraq. Each specialty has a national and international mentor for it.We had more than 300 applicants, the accepted students were able to participate in one of four courses of the desire, which are: Emergency course ,Cardiothoracic surgery course ,neurosurgery course ,and general surgery course.

COVID-19 bookletA 34 page booklet aimed as a resource for the seekers of true medical knowledge regarding CoVID-19 pandemic that collects multiple articles and researches written about it. It contains two parts, the first one with detailed information regarding the virus , history, transmission and signs and symptoms it produces in addition to management and methods of prevention. The second part presents several correlations with the pandemic of CoVID-19 which were spotlighted in different articles and researches.

-What does SCOME stand for ?

It acts as a discussion forum for students interested in the different aspects of medical education in the hope of pursuing and achieving its aim. Today, SCOME works mainly in medical education capacity building. SCOME provides several platforms and methods to educate medical students worldwide on various medical education issues.

What does SCOME do ?

SCOME organizes projects that promote and provide opportunities and tools for medical students to improve their knowledge and pursue their goals, provide information to students about relevant issues in their education, centralize students’ opinions, We seek to promote best evidence medical education practices for efficient delivery and advocate for improvements in faculties.

CBD Capacity Building support division: The core idea of this support division is to ensure and maintain high quality standards on knowledge transferring within our beloved organization.Training sessions is only one shape of capacity building, there's also dialogue groups, debates, formation of the Organization resources center, coordinating the work with the trainers/facilitators of the organization, and all other forms of non-formal education.So long story short, we rise by lifting others.

Achievements:-During 2019-2020 only the Capacity Building Support Division graduated approximately 410 Participants from its high quality sessions and educational activities.

- How do I become a trainer in the CBD ? In order to become a trainer you should apply for certain international workshops that graduate trainers hosted by IFMSA in an event called SubRegional Training (SRT). SRTs are hosted in different countries every year. The calls for participants of these workshops are shared by the CBD to the LC Presidents and in turn the LC president shares the call with members.

- How can I attend CBD sessions ?

CBD training sessions are present in different activities that require training sessions in order for the participants to learn a certain skill. when you find any activity with a session that is not a standing committee session you should apply because its almost definitely a CBD session

ASD The Alumni Support Division is the part of IFMSA-Iraq that gathers all the Alumni from all over Iraq where they continue supporting the young members with both experience and passion.

MMPSD Media and Publication Support Division represents the digital view of IFMSA-Iraq . Its main vision is providing the proper support for committees work events and project It tranfers what is happening within IFMSA in an interactive manner on social media platforms .With ensuring to reach them out to the largest number of students around the world . - What is the scoring system? It is the system that contains members’ personal information including the member name,ID number, points,local committee,college,hobby. You can access your personal account in the scoring system by signing in IFMSA-Iraq website (scoring.ifmsaiq.org)

-How can I apply to IFMSA-Iraq sessions/events ?

You can find the applying form of any session/event that is held in your local committee or any other local committees in LCs facebook groups/ telegram channels, you can apply to these forms by writing your personal information (like mentioned above) in addition to any other requirements in the form (motivation letter, what do you expect from this session? , etc …)

- What is OC ? and how can I be an OC member ?

It stands for “Organizing committee” each session/event has its own OC team, OC member is a member participated in organizing this session/event, you can be an OC member by applying to a specific form for each session/event, the head of organizing committee (head of OC) will choose his/her OC members according to this form.

- How can I raise my score ? By attending sessions/events as a member or organizing them as an OC member/ head of OC, according to the points of the scoring system :1- As a participant, you will gain 2.5 points by attending standing committees sessions/events and 3 points by attending CBD sessions. 2- As an OC member, you will gain 4 points by organizing a session/event.C- As a head of OC, you will gain 5 points by organizing a session/event.D- As a project coordinator, you will gain minimum 5 points, maximum 10 points by coordinating a project, you’ll also gain 50% of these points every time events of this project are being held.

What is the benefit of the points in the scoring system?

These points are used in the choosing process of the exchange program of SCOPE/SCORE, and to choose IFMSA-Iraq delegation to the regional meeting (EMR) and the general assemblies (GAs).The more points you have the higher the chance to be accepted in the exchange program, also, give a bonus in the selection IFMSA-Iraq delegation for any international event. furthermore, these points serve as an indicator of the number of the events and sessions you’ve attended, so a member with higher points will have more experience and knowledge as an IFMSA-Iraq member.
