Parent University 1

Play as a way of knowing

Sat. Aug. 26th

This sessions will focus on unpacking who we and our children are as learners and how our learning styles and presences affect our understanding of what learning is supposed to look like. We will reflect on the needs and best modes of work and environment for different types of learner and how play can become a universal language of learning. We will look into research on play, visible thinking and learning by doing. Parents will get the chance to interact with one one another, IGBIS in house experts and different types of media and technology, while building their understanding of the session.

Inspiring curiosity and creativity in all learners

Sat. Sep. 30th

This sessions will explore research and practices regarding behaviour, our understanding and healthy principles of positive psychology and behaviour management. Building on research provided we will discuss multiple ways of igniting curiosity and creativity in our learners and ways of discovering and nurturing their passions and talents.

Learner Agency, leadership and entrepreneurship through the IB programmes

Sat. Oct. 28th

This session will provide the parents with the opportunity to research and reflect on the essential elements of the IB programmes. We will look into practical applications of the learner profile attitudes and attributes inside and outside the school setting and share success stories of IB alumni who have become leaders and entrepreneurs embodying and living through the learner profile and IB ethos.

Failing forward - nurturing a growth mindset through the IB programmes

Sat. Nov. 18th

This session will engage the parents with the recent research and practices that support building girth, gratitude and a growth mindset in learners young and all. We will look at case studies, scenarios and types of role play that will help us discover the language of “not giving up” and growing committed to accomplishing event the most challenging of projects.

Children are taught addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in very different ways. We will explain the strategies and demonstrate how children learn about numbers using equipment.

It is essential to enable children to solve problems independently using a range of equipment and strategies. We will look at maths in literature and how books can be used to develop mathematical thinking and understanding.
