Ongoing investment into play areas Work to improve play areas for children and young people will continue over the next few months thanks to investment through Bath & North East Somerset Council. Eighteen local play areas have already been revamped, providing opportunities for children and young people to play safely in their own communities, and between now and the end of March a further 13 areas will be improved. These were selected following applications from local parish councils and community groups. There has been consultation with local communities, including children and young people, to decide how each play area should be developed. Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Chris Watt, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council’s work to improve play opportunities is benefiting children, young people and the communities they live in. Having somewhere to play with their friends in their own communities is essential for children and young people. Play provides them with the opportunity to develop so many social skills by interacting with other children and young people.” Work at Wellow has just started and improvements include a new playroute with low mounds and tunnels, as well as the upgrading and linking of existing equipment to new pieces including a buddy swing, rope bridge and spinning see-saw. Work at Sandpits play area in Bath is due to start in late January and will include an embankment slide, buddy swing, informal seating and a series of new activity crossings over the stream, as well as a new roundabout which will be accessible to children with disabilities. Green Park in Bath will see improvement work start at the end of January / early February. This will include an embankment slide, large timber rope and climbing equipment, and a buddy swing. A new entrance into the park will be created with better access from the riverside walk. Work at Kensington Meadows in Bath, to include an embankment slide, large timber

rope and climbing equipment and a buddy swing, will start at the end of January, as will work at Shoscombe, which will feature a buddy swing, small rope and climb piece and low mounding to create informal play crossings. In Radstock improvements to the Southfield Recreation Ground and Westhill park will start in February, working closely with Norton Radstock Town Council which are funding the play area at Westhill . At Southfield there will be two new areas. The junior area will have grass mounds, sound pipes, and a sand pit with dish roundabout and sand digger. The active area will feature the re-use of a felled Chestnut tree as a play feature, as well as informal bike jumps and rumble strips, a series of grass mounds with wooden bridges and a zip wire. A BMX track is being put in at Westfield and the existing play area is being redeveloped to include a climbing tower with slide, rope ladder and fireman’s pole, cantilever swing, a swing which will be accessible to disabled children, grass mounds with balance beams, and roundabout. There will also be additional tree planting and benches. At Clandown a new multi use games area will be installed by the end of March. Improvement work is currently underway at High Littleton; Hillcrest, Bath; Roundhill Park, Bath; Batheaston and Tunley. Since October 2009, work has already been completed at a number of sites across the area, and children and young people are starting to make the most of the new play opportunities. These include Haydon, Timsbury, Stanton Drew, Paulton, Peasedown and East Harptree. The improvements to these play areas is part of £2.5 million investment into play by Bath & North East Somerset Council. Work on the new £800,000 adventure play park and skatepark for Midsomer Norton is also now underway, which is seeing significant contribution from Norton Radstock Town Council and the Manic Skaterz. The Council is also providing £75,000 towards a new skatepark at Keynsham which is being managed and invested in by Keynsham Town Council. Alongside this work the Council is working to address a range of issues to improve public space for children, young people and the wider communities. There has been close working with the police and community safety wardens to address any issues of anti-social behaviour. News & Reviews

Author visits Midsomer Norton The children at Midsomer Norton Primary School were visited by Bel Mooney author of many children’s books. The children were able to ask Bel many questions about her writing and where she got her ideas and inspiration. Both Bel and the children enjoyed their time together and she was able to give the pupils at Midsomer Norton primary school many ideas on creative writing.

During our ‘Under the Sea’ week, we decided to write a letter to Norton Aquatics fish shop in Midsomer Norton. We asked if they would like to come in and talk to us about fish, fish keeping and maybe let us borrow a gold fish bowl! Even better than that they came in and set up a tropical tank for us! We got to choose what we put in the tank, the plants, gravel and decorations all as a gift from the shop. Each week they came into school and brought more fish. We get to choose what types of fish we got in the tank. We started two zebra danios, four orange platies and a Siamese fighting fish! Now we have got three guppys, two more zebra danios and an electric blue dwarf gourami. Thanks Norton Aquatics! Cosima, Sophie.B, Harvey and Tullis. Year 6 St John’s Primary School

Nursery expansion Open the doors at Peasedown St John Nursery class and you will find lots of happy 3 and 4 year olds having fun together; whether they be hunting for lost teddy bears or flying to the moon in their very own rocket (don’t worry, it’s only a cardboard box!). However, you will soon see a group of excited 2 year olds getting ready for Nursery as from September 2010 Peasedown St John Nursery Class will be expanding to take children from the age of 2 years. Peasedown St John Nursery Class has been open for seven years providing young children in the village with an exciting, stimulating setting to play and learn. It has grown in numbers every year rising from 26 children to 60 this year. This is mainly due to the excellent facilities such as an adventurous natural outdoor area and hands on exploration room, as well as highly trained, experienced and caring staff. Due to the increase in numbers, School Governors decided to expand the Nursery by knocking through to the next door classroom. David Tilling, Headteacher, explains “Since opening, our Nursery class has gone from strength to strength. We aim to be the school of choice for our community – whether for 2 year olds or 11 year olds.” Nursery teacher Rachel Brotherton adds “We are all very excited by the new development. We are looking forward to making the Nursery an exciting place for 2 year olds with resources especially for them.” Mrs Smith, mum of Rosie –Lou, who is already at Nursery, and Belle, who will start as a two year old in September, said “It’s such a great Nursery with so much to do.” Places are still available for September – but are going quickly – so if you would like more information please contact the school office on 01761 432311.

Army visit I began by drawing a picture of a Hummer Vehicle using the tips from my drawing book. I then decided to send the picture to the troops in Afghanistan to cheer them up and to let them know that I was thinking of them. After two weeks I received a phone call from them and they informed me that a group of soldiers were going to visit my home in Midsomer Norton. My mum gave them a cup of tea and we talked about going into the Army for a career and the picture that I created. We talked about school and events going on in the news. They filmed me answering questions and posted my news on their website. If you want to see the full account of my famous story, then please go online to www.army.mod. uk/news and look for ‘Army news and features’ on the left hand side and scroll down to ‘When a picture says a thousand thank yous’. By Dylan Sawyer, Class 3S of St John’s Primary School, Midsomer Norton.

The family information service can help if you are looking for information for your family about leisure activities, childcare choices or play opportunities in the Midsomer Norton and Radstock area for young people aged 0 to 20. Press Gang The ‘PSJ Press Gang’ is a newspaper after school club held in Peasedown St John Primary School. We have created our own personal magazine (SHHH magazine!) for our school to enjoy at home and with their family. It includes games, teacher interviews, events, and much much more. The team work really hard every term to get it out on time! The team are: Rees, Lauren (Photographers), Jade, Annabelle (Interviewers), Louis, Laura (Reporters) Sam, Toby, Will (Games) Melissa and Luke (Editors). The 2nd edition of SHHH!! will be coming out in the beginning of March, with thanks to the manager of the club Miss Donnelly. We love the newspaper club because we can make our I.C.T skills better and to see what it will be like to be a journalist. By Jade and Melissa.

Creative Kids! What would you say if your teacher put an ice cube in front of every one of you during a literacy lesson? What about a jelly baby? A pomegranate? A glass of (non-alcoholic!) mulled wine? This is just what is happening for year 6 at St. Johns’ Primary, Midsomer Norton, as part of the School’s ‘Creative Write’ every Friday. Pupils have to respond to something different every week, choosing the genre they wish to write in. Everyone works in silence, a candle is lit and music is played. Children had the following things to say about the Creative Write: “Having an object in front of you to see, smell and touch helps you to write much more about it.” “I like the freedom – I can choose any type of writing I want.” “We use special books and it makes the work feel more valuable because we are the only ones allowed to write in them – not even teachers can!” “I like it when people share what they have written because it is always good and gives me lots of ideas.” Teachers say they are really pleased with the work the pupils are doing too! Why not try writing about unusual objects yourself - who knows what the next theme will be?

My pet human asked me to tell you all about me and how I live. I am a Crested Gecko and I come from a country called New Caledonia which is nice and warm, but a bit rainy. I live in a glass house called a vivarium which has a special heating pad on the side to keep me warm and lots of plants and branches for me to play on. I like to eat bugs-bugs are yummy, especially the crunchy ones, but I also have to eat mashed up fruit to keep me healthy. In the morning my pet human sprays my vivarium with water to keep me nice and moist and so I can have a drink. Sometimes my pet human lets me come out of my vivarium to play with him and have a run around. He says I am really easy to look after and much more fun than a hamster as I can lick my own eyes, run up walls and I can grip onto things with my tail like a monkey does.

It is every parent’s dream and desire to make their child’s birthday party as happy and as memorable as it can be so the memory may last an entire lifetime. Long before the occasion, most mum’s have usually started saving and making some plans. If the child is old enough to make suggestions, the first thing to do is sit down with your child and find out what kind of birthday party he or she wants to have and who does he or she want to invite. Check your finances and discuss the allowable budget and plan together for exciting and fun filled activities your child and their friends will enjoy. Children are taught about health and fitness and to have a party where they do a lot of activities to burn lots of energy is always a good start. Some children love to celebrate at a venue loaded with great fun and games, marvellous magic tricks, playful puppets, terrific tattoos and live real magicians. And if the children are getting a little too wild, it’s time for an old-fashioned very short story telling. Bigger children love to celebrate with disco or activity parties. For the perfect disco party a real live DJ can be invited to host the party, with lots of great music and cool disco lights. The activity party can enable children to try several new activities and sports they may never have the opportunity to have a go at, all making happy and energetic children! Girls on the other hand like nothing better than having a complete make over, with hair, nails and make up all professionally adding to the final look!

St Valentine was an early Christian martyr. It is said he restored the sight of his jailer’s blind daughter and hence became a Saint. He was buried on 14 February in Rome. He was however not a patron saint of lovers at this time. The connection with courted love was only established by Chaucer and only gained its modern associations during the time of the Victorians. Chocolate has been known about by the American Indians for at least 3000 years. The

cocoa beans are collected, fermented, and dried and roasted and can at this stage be used to make a recognisable chocolate drink. It was however only with the advent of the industrial revolution when presses could be

used to squeeze the chocolate into its modern form. The Aztecs used to grow cocoa bushes in their back gardens, and the cocoa bean was a recognizable unit of currency; 3 cocoa beans were worth an avocado and 100 cocoa beans were the equivalent of a turkey. The idea of being able to grow money in the back garden has an enduring appeal! Chocolate is known to have many effects on the human body. The original cocoa mix was used by the Indians to ward off fatigue, and suppress coughs and diarrhoea. You will find high percentage pure chocolate will still have these effects for you though milky chocolate contains so many other products that these medicinal effects are masked. Pure chocolate also seems to also open up the arteries to the heart, improve the circulation, and even reduce the great bug-bear of modern life, cholesterol. Chocolate lowers your blood pressure and there is no evidence it causes acne. Again consuming milk chocolate appears largely to negate these health benefits. Of course chocolate contains a large number of calories, and I suppose the old adage ‘everything in moderation’ is still appropriate. Chocolate seems to increase feel good factors in the brain, which can give you a natural boost, there is however no evidence chocolate

functions as an aphrodisiac. One of the most active ingredients of chocolate cannot be digested by cats or dogs and so eating chocolate should in theory be both dangerous for them, and give them a substantial amount of stomach pain. Unfortunately no one seems to have told our dog this!

Albert Einstein predicted the possibility of lasers in 1917, but the first working examples were only made in 1960. The possibility of removing hair by laser was discovered accidentally by a researcher at the University of Swansea in the mid 1990s. The original lasers were bulky, water cooled machines, but modern electronics and the adaptation of the intense pulse light system, means the modern hair removal machine is the size of a small fridge. A brief flash of perhaps 25 milliseconds, as quick as a very quick camera shutter, causes the hair to heat up and destroy its own root. You do not need to grow your hair long for the process to work, and the technique functions best on pale skin and dark hair. Sunshine needs to be avoided for a fortnight so the best time to commence any treatment would indeed be Valentine’s Day.

Mothers Day Flower This Mother’s Day craft encourages you to think about what makes your mother special. It is sure to become a treasured possession! You will need: Coloured card Pens Scissors Instructions: Either draw a circle and six petals on the card, writing in the middle of the circle ‘I love my Mum because’ - or print out one of our templates on to the card. Cut out your flower parts. On each of the six petals, draw or write a reason why you love your Mother. Glue the petals to the back of the circle and leave to dry. You can now glue your flower to a card for a lovely Mother’s day card, or tape a drinking straw to the back and make one of our homemade vase ideas to pop it in!

A Tray of love You will need: An old or inexpensive tray, the plainer the better, or a craft “blank” Emulsion paint (if required) Photos Coloured paper Glue Acrylic varnish Instructions: If necessary, give the tray a coat or two of emulsion paint. Our tray had just a small border design, so we didn’t need to do this - we just stuck the photos over the design to cover it. Arrange your photos until you are happy with the look of the tray, then carefully glue them down. Cut out letters from coloured paper to spell out the name of the recipient, and glue these to the tray. Paint over the top with a layer of glue to seal any loose edges and then leave the tray to dry. Paint on a layer of acrylic varnish to protect the tray.

Handprint Heart NEARLY NEW Bought & Sold Buggies, Cots, Toys, Clothing

These make a super quick craft activity for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day and a lovely keepsake, too. You will need: Pink and purple paint Paper Instructions: Keeping fingers together, print a handprint of purple paint on the centre of the paper. With the other hand add a handprint of pink paint overlapping the fingers with the purple handprint.

Heart Man

Daisy Bookmark

This little heart man is a super quick craft for Valentine’s Day - fun as a magnet for the fridge, a badge, the front of a card, a key ring - or just to give as he is. You will need: Craft foam hearts Pipe cleaner (chenille stem) Wiggle eyes Fabric paint Glue Instructions: Use a large craft foam heart as the face/body. Glue on wiggle eyes and a small heart as a nose. Use fabric paint to add a mouth. Cut the pipe cleaner into two and glue the two halves onto the centre to the back of the face/body so one half forms the arms and the other the legs. Glue small hearts to the ends of the chenille stems as the hands and feet. Leave your man to dry. Why not glue him to your pencil, or add a magnet or even make a hole in the top and make him into a key ring?

This pretty daisy bookmark is quickly and easily made with fingerprints by all ages of children - a perfect little gift for Mother’s Day or any special occasion. You will need: Green card Yellow and white paint Instructions: Cut out a rectangle from green card. Cut little snips along each end to form a fringe. Down the length of the card print 3 yellow finger prints. Around each yellow finger print, print a circle of white petals. Easy, but very pretty!

Rubber Stamped Photo Frame This quick and easy clay photo frame is incredibly effective, and you will enjoy experimenting with the patterns they can make. Of course, if you don’t like your design you can just roll up the clay and start again. You will need: Colored air-hardening clay Old rubber stamps Photo (passport size) Card Magnet Double sided sticky tape Glue Instructions: Roll out your clay and cut out the shape of frame you would like (we used a ruler to help with the square frame). Don’t forget to make the hole in the centre. Press your rubber stamps into the clay so they leave an impression, or write into the clay with a pencil. Leave your frame to harden for a few days. Use double sided sticky tape to stick your photo to the back of the frame. Now cut a piece of card the same size as the frame and stick it on to the back with double sided tape. Finally glue a magnet on to the middle of the card if you like.

Heart fridge magnet Here’s a handmade craft which anyone would be proud to display on their fridge - perfect for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. You will need: 2 colours of polymer clay A magnet back (available from craft shops) Heart cookie cutter (optional) Strong glue

Instructions: From one of your colours of clay, make a heart shape about 2 inches by 2 inches. You can do this by hand, or roll a ball of clay out and use a cookie cutter. Roll out the other clay into a thin sausage. Break bits off and shape them in to letters spelling Mum (or Love), or other appropriate names or

initials. Press these onto the heart. Add a few hearts made from the second colour of clay to decorate if you like. Bake according to the manufacturers instructions. When it is cool, glue the magnet to the back.

Harriet Goodwin For a millionth of a second the car grazed the drenched moorland. If it had come down on any other patch of ground Finn would simply have been another statistic. It slid through the membrane like a hot knife through butter, plunging into the darkness and catapulting Finn from its shattered windscreen as it fell. Finn Oliver knows he’ll never come to terms with his father’s death, but joy-riding over the moors in his mum’s beat-up old car is a quick fix of freedom and forgetting. Until the accident happens - and Finn finds himself hurtling through the wafer-thin divide between the worlds of the living and the dead.

With some preparation and a few strategies, it is possible to take your children out to eat in a restaurant that does not have a fast food counter. Children need to be taught what behaviour is expected of them in restaurants. They cannot be expected to know automatically since some of the rules of restaurant are going to be a bit different from home.

When children have mastered behaving during the meal itself, a family can venture out to the more family friendly restaurants that have table service. One good way to tell a family friendly restaurant from others is that they will provide high chairs and booster seats, and they have a children’s menu. You should be at the restaurant a little before the child’s regular dinnertime so that they will not be starving before the food arrives. Regardless of how a restaurant may seem, if the service is slow by adult standards, you will be miserable, so opt out of those places. You will want to pack a bag of quiet toys, colouring books and crayons, but these distractions may wear out. One hint for packing toys for a truly critical experience for the child is to pack new or unfamiliar toys. They will be more entertained by something they have never seen, if you have chosen well. It is good to always have a few of these types of toys hidden away for this

A traditional pub, offering a wide choice of home-cooked food, real ales and fine wines. Its warm and friendly atmosphere lends itself to all occasions.

purpose. Packing snacks has dubious value. If the child eats before their real dinner comes, they will still need to wait while everyone else eats. Sometimes if the waiting gets too hard it is helpful for an adult to take the child to the lobby or outdoors for a few minutes for a change of scene. You will need to use this method judiciously because you do not want to be disturbing other diners by walking past their tables frequently. You also do not want to give your child the impression that wandering around the restaurant is acceptable behaviour, because it is not. Be certain to remember all your good table manners in the restaurant. Just because someone else is doing the cleaning up is no excuse to play with the food or leave a mess. Be polite to your server, and leave a generous tip if they have tried to accommodate the extra demands of your family.

Not every restaurant experience with young children will be a great one. Some days you may have to ask the server to package your food for take-out, and spend more time covering your expectations with your child at home. Do not be discouraged. Every parent has had to deal with a cranky child at one time or another in a public situation. Sooner or later your children will get the hang of restaurant eating. Soon you will both be enjoying eating out as a family. All of the local restaurants shown on these pages welcome families and are able to supply high chairs and children’s menu’s to suit your child and to ensure your local dining experience is one you will want to carry out regularly.

As parents, you do have the power to give your children a lifelong appreciation for activities that strengthen their bodies and minds. Children are more sedentary than ever, watching television and playing video games instead of biking on the cycle track or playing football in the garden with their friends. Children need regular exercise to build strong bones and muscles. Exercise also helps children sleep well at night and stay alert during the day. Such habits established in childhood help adolescents maintain a healthy weight despite the hormonal changes, rapid growth and social influences that often lead to overeating, and active children are more likely to become fit adults.

3 Promote Activity, not Exercise

Follow these tips to keep your child active:

1 Set a good example

If you want an active child, be active yourself. Take the stairs instead of the lift and park the car farther away from shops. Never make exercise seem like a punishment or a chore. Find fun activities that the whole family can do together, such as: • Swimming • Nature hikes • Bike riding • Canoeing • Walks with the family dog • Playing chase • Dancing • Hopscotch • Skipping • Hide & Seek If mum and dad exercise, it’s a very powerful message for a child to exercise. In addition to getting active, exercising together gives you good family time. The goal is to get children moving, whatever the activity.

2 Limit ‘Screen Time’

There are a lot of reasons why children are less active today, but the biggest culprit is the television set, followed closely by video games and computers, these activities encourage a sedentary lifestyle by limiting movement for long periods of time. A surefire way to increase your children’s activity levels is to limit the number of hours they’re allowed ‘screen time’ each day. When children are bored they find things to do.

Of course sports and other organized activities are a great way to keep your child moving however, children don’t have to be in sports or take dance classes to be active. Every child is wired differently. We all have certain strengths and characteristics that permit us to do certain things better than others. Many non competitive activities are available for a child who isn’t interested in organized athletics. The key is to find things that your child likes to do. For instance, if your child is artistically inclined, go on a nature hike to collect leaves and rocks that your child can use to make a collage. If your child likes to climb, head for the nearest neighbourhood jungle gym or climbing wall. If your child likes to read, then walk or bike to the neighbourhood library for a book.

4 Start Young

Remember your energetic toddler? Direct that energy into a lifelong love of physical activity. By incorporating physical activity into our children’s lives at an early age, you are setting the foundation for good fitness habits in the years to come. For instance, have your child show you how bunnies hop, eagles fly or dogs wag their tails. Some other suggestions for keeping children interested: • Play games your child loves, like chase, cops and robbers, Simon says and red light, green light. If you don’t remember the rules for these games, make up your own or walk to your local library and check out a book on games. • Let your children see how much fun you can have while being active. Don’t just run with them. Run like a gorilla. Walk like a spider. Hop like a bunny. Stretch like a cat. • Plan your family vacations around physical activities — hiking, biking, skiing, snorkeling, swimming or camping. Take along a ball or Frisbee disc to sneak in some activity at rest stops. • Make chores a family affair. Who can pull the most weeds out of the vegetable garden? Who can collect the most litter in the local area? Have your kids help shovel the snow off the driveway and use that excess snow to build a huge snow fort. • Vary the activities. Let each child take a turn choosing the activity of the day or week. Walking, bowling and restaurant play areas all count. What counts is that you’re doing something active as a family.

Meet Asia; she is a two -year-old speyed female domestic shorthaired cat. she is good with other cats and might benefit from being homed with another friendly cat for confidence and is seeking a calm, quiet household where any children are in their teens and who will realise that Asia will need time and space to develop into a happy family pet.

Meet Scampie and Brandy; Scampie is an eight-year-old castrated male Jack Russell Terrier x; whereas Brandy is a five-year-old castrated male Terrier x. Although not brother and sister they have been together for the past year and want to remain this way! They are normally nice and quiet and not destructive when left for short periods, enjoying snuggling under their duvet in their bed together until you return. They are lovely dogs to walk on a harness and walk nicely together side by side. Scampie tends to take his time plodding along and likes it if the walks are short ones, but being the older of the two this is to be expected. They know a few basic commands but as they enjoy treats any further training shouldn’t be a problem. They are a loyal pair that enjoy sunbathing and love nothing more than being together especially sharing the same bed. They are good with other dogs, but not cats and would suit a family household where any children are aged 8+.

Rosie

Marion and Sue Mrs Pokhrel and Sue Gait sponsor this animal and hope a new happy home can soon be found. Meet Mollie; she is a three-year-old speyed female Dwarf Lop rabbit. Mollie is a very pretty lass and the friendliest of rabbits you ever could find. She is inquisitive and takes treats nicely from your hand. However although she likes to know that there are people around, she prefers to have the attention on her terms. Sadly, Mollie has had a lot of heartbreak in her short life after losing her daughter who she was so close to, so now finds it difficult to mix with other rabbits, so needs to go as the only rabbit.

Meet Buggy; she is a one-year-old female Gerbil. She is young so will require further handling but loves her toilet roll tubes that she manages to demolish is minutes flat! They do not make ideal first time pets so would not make great creatures for very young children so is ideally seeking an owner who has had experience with gerbils and where any children are aged 10+ with adult supervision. Buggy doesn’t show herself particularly well but is still a very sweet creature.

Meet Mickey and Tilly; Mickey is a three and a half-year old neutered buck Netherland Dwarf and Tilly is just over one and a half years old, speyed doe Dwarf Lop Rabbit. Quiet, tiny little Mickey has tons or character to offer anyone wanting to adopt him (with Tilly)! Tilly on the other hand comes across as a little on the shy side to begin with, however she is friendly, but just requires more handling. These two are a sweet pair that will need experienced rabbit owners and where any children are aged 10+ with adult supervision.

Nelly has been mixed with other canines here and although she is not outwardly aggressive she gets wound up by the other dogs so must be homed as the only dog. She would not be good with cats, small animals or wildlife but would be fine in a family household where any children are aged 5+.  

Meet Rosie and Remmie; they are five-month-old female Dumbo Rats. Rosie and Remmie are like two peas in the pod, they are slightly on the shy side especially when it comes to being handled, however, once in your arms they soon relax enjoying their cuddles and with time will become lovely friendly ratties. They are inquisitive but are seeking a patient home where they wouldn’t mind doing further handling with them to make them more sociable. They are sisters and are completely inseperable so must be re-homed together for company and can usually be found curled up together. They would be suitable in a family household who have owned rats before and where any children are aged 10+ with adult supervision. Like most pet rats they will require a large cage with lots of climbing equipment, tubes and toys to play with and a cosy warm bed to snuggle down in together.

Meet Sunny; she is an eight and halfyear-old speyed female Staffi. Sunny is good with some other dogs but will require further socialisation as she gets very over excited and doesn’t know how to act around them. She would be best in a quieter home, where she can get used to everything in her own time and would suit a family household where any children are aged 8+.

Meet Smudge; he is a nine-year-old domestic shorthaired neutered male black and white cat. This loveable lad who enjoys a fuss on his terms is a lovely chap has been over-looked time and time again. He is litter trained, is not good with other cats, and would suit a quiet settled household where any children are aged 8+.

Meet Smokie; he is a twelve-yearold semi-longhaired grey and white neutered male cat. Smokie will need a patient owner who is prepared to invest time and T.L.C. in him. He is good with other cats and gets on well with them but as a lad of senior years would like to spend his twilight years in a calm, quiet household where any children are aged 8+.

Meet Simba and Smudge; they are eleven-year-old shorthaired speyed female cats. Simba and Smudge are happy, sweet-natured, affectionate and generally lovable and therefore will make perfect pets. As they are older cats they would like a nice warm loving home to relax and spend the rest of their lives together. Simba is more out-going, enjoying any fuss and attention rather than her sister Smudge, who can be a little more on the shy side, quiet and reserved and doesn’t really like being overly fussed. Litter trained; Simba and Smudge relate well to other cats and are seeking a calm, quiet family household with caring owners and where any children are aged 8+. As they have lived together for their whole lives they must be re-homed together where they will surely make lovely family pets.

Meet Riley; he is a one and a half-year-old castrated male Staffi x. Riley really enjoys the company of other dogs and so it would be lovely for him to be homed with another playful dog, either from the home or where there is one in the family already. He hasn’t mixed with cats and would suit a family household where any children are aged 8+ as he gets easily excited.
