KEYNSHAM NEWS S
o: How are you coping with the new normal? Well, there are positives. Many of us prefer working from home if we can and lots of us have found ourselves more adept with new virtual communications technologies. The roads are still not as busy as they were, and the Keynsham Car Parks are still not full. Many have continued with their good habits in lockdown and are exercising more in all sorts of healthy ways. Manor Road Playing Fields often have small informal groups using the open space for positive activities. The response from the community to support vulnerable residents in isolation at the height of the pandemic has been something we can all be proud of. Covid-19 has made us change for the better in a variety of ways. But with these changes come frustrations and negatives as well. Lots of things can be more difficult, especially if the technology we are increasingly having to rely on isn’t up to scratch. Take our last virtual council meeting on Zoom, for example. My laptop won’t work because the Wi-Fi signal simply isn’t good enough. With five members of the public, 13 councillors and the town clerk in attendance, it spread over two screens on my iPad and whilst it was really encouraging to see members of the public zooming in to join us, it’s very difficult to chair a meeting when you can only see half the people! Some of us can’t help but feel frustrated that some things have become more difficult, restrictive and time-consuming in this new normal. You have to book; you can’t just turn up and some places still aren’t able to re-open. There are hand sanitisers, masks, screens and queuing everywhere plus the necessary requirement to socially distance. There are new rules, laws and guidance which are often subject to change suddenly, leaving little time to adjust and often confusion in their wake. But as we enter a second wave of COVID, not knowing what our Christmas arrangements are likely to be, we need to consider these restrictions as merely irritations, and look at the bigger picture. As we move into November, I am thinking of young pilots in The Battle of Britain, 80 years ago, fighting on their own in icy cold conditions, with the future of our country in their hands,

VIRTUAL WINTER FESTIVAL
Friday 27th November, 6.00 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. As our community struggles to come to terms with the affects of the COVID 19 Pandemic and the restrictions that come with it, the Keynsham Town Council Winter Festival Planning Committee felt strongly that our annual Christmas Light switch on and Festive activities should go on and bring an evening of cheer to you all. In the past few months, we have been pulling together ideas on how to do this in a socially distanced and safe way in order to avoid spreading the virus across our town. The best solution that we came up with was to present the whole event by YouTube in the form of live streamed, part prerecorded festival of activities that you and your family can view from the comfort of your own home. You can set yourself up ready for the event by going into the holding page of the event at https://youtu.be/hpcZUyON_Q8
The full programme is not fully finalised but here is a taster: The event will commence at 6.00 p.m. with a welcome and the switching on of the Christmas Tree lights by the winner of this year’s colouring competition (socially distanced of course) and yes, we will be having the usual Christmas lights throughout the High Street/Temple Street. The cameras will then take us into St John’s Church for a carol by St John’s Junior Choir followed by the ringing of the church bells (arranged magically, so there will be no social distancing issues). Back outside the church, some special visitors will be on hand to entertain your little ones. This will include a special greeting from Father Christmas. The evening continues with pre-recorded items such as Christmas sketches, jokes, vocal and

theatrical performances from our local schools, a brass band performance, a puppet nativity show, a Christmas song from a local choir and acoustic performance by a local artist. Throughout the evening, our Dickensian narrator, together with his assistant, will guide us through the town visiting the windows of local shops decorated following a Christmas Carol theme. As the camera gives us visual shots of the store’s wonderful displays, you will hear excerpts from the winning story chosen from our story writing competition. The children of our community have been asked to write a story that involves a Christmas song. This can be on the title of the song, a line from a song or even the whole song! If your child would like to enter and has not received entry information from their school (KS2 and KS3) then just drop us an email to admin@ keynsham-tc.gov.uk and we will get the details to you.
A further visit into the Church will give us the opportunity to listen to the adult section of St John’s Choir. At 8.30 p.m. our few special guests will come together for a final farewell. Please can we ask you and your family to stay at home on this evening and protect our community by not spreading the virus. As a thank you, encourage your children to listen out for the ringing of a bell outside your home ... you never know there could be a special surprise in store!

BOOKING SYSTEM AND LITTER AT MANOR ROAD PLAYING FIELDS
W
hilst it is encouraging to see more people and organisations wishing to use Manor Road during the pandemic, unfortunately the increased use has brought with it more complaints from local residents and dog walkers about the amount of litter being left behind. Despite ensuring bins are available at weekends for organisational users and the groundsmen making Manor Road their first stop early on Monday mornings, it appears that a considerable amount of litter is accumulating at weekends. This is spoiling the enjoyment of other users and putting the many dogs that use Manor Road at risk of swallowing foreign objects that then require veterinary attention. This is not acceptable, and the Town Council has been asked to consider introducing further deterrents for litter louts. From now on all organisational and group activities will need to be booked in advance which already occurs with the Football teams/clubs who book their pitches for the season with the Town Council. Anyone turning up to use the pitches (for football or any other activity) without booking is creating additional wear and tear (especially in winter months) and possibly depriving a team of a pitch which they have prebooked and paid for. Currently the Town Council marks out four full-sized pitches for the football teams and will be creating two further marked areas for other organisational activities. Whether you are
running a bootcamp, children’s activities or a socially-distanced business meeting, all group and organisational activities at Manor Rd now require to be pre-booked through the Town Council in order to be covered by the Town Council’s public liability insurance and ensure an appropriate space is available. At the time of going to press, the Town Council is scheduled to discuss the introduction and revision of current charges to reflect FIRSTLY, the fact that the Pavilion changing rooms currently have to remain closed owing to COVID but SECONDLY the current use of the playing fields by other groups charging their own fees to participants. We are also considering charging a non-refundable deposit should litter be left behind. The Town Council wants to actively encourage use of Manor Road but not at the expense of other users. Therefore please will all users of Manor Road give careful consideration to their own (and, if applicable all participants in their group) activities and ensure the playing fields are left clean for other people coming after them to also enjoy.

KEYNSHAM FOODBANK
K
eynsham Food Bank has had a very busy first half of the current fiscal year. During the 2019/20 fiscal year they supported 1292 clients whereas in the first six months of this fiscal year they have supported in excess 1300 people (as of October 4th). Trussell Trust, the parent charity compared activity in April 2019 with April 2020 throughout the country. The average increase in the South West region was 124% but the Keynsham Food Bank were shown to have had a 551% increase in their work. Project Manager, Alan Hale, told us: “I am very proud of the volunteers that I work with, they have been magnificent. Despite Covid they have been flexible when we closed our doors and began a delivery service, they changed working practices in a heartbeat and I must acknowledge the sterling work of Keynsham and District Dial-a-Ride who did our deliveries.”
lacked at their last storage facility. The food bank is bracing itself for a further significant increase in demand for support from the anticipated increase in redundancies.
The food bank is now open to callers who must have a voucher and that is likely to be an e-voucher in most cases.
The food bank has drop boxes for food donations in Tesco, Waitrose, Saltford Hall, Chew Magna Co-op and the Pensford Post Office. Current needs are always written on the white boards above the boxes.
More recently the food bank warehouse has moved into a new unit in Marksbury and the warehouse team are enjoying both natural daylight and fresh air whilst they work, something they

COVID-19 COMMUNITY RESPONSE GROUP Sally and How Life Changed. Sally – Resident How did you first hear of Keynsham Community Response Group and the volunteers? Well, first I got a letter through the door and was given the name and number of a volunteer. She came to visit and said she’d be happy to shop and do some other things and I thought thank God for that because I couldn’t see how I was going to get out and do things. We’d been told on the news that we couldn’t go out. Did she manage to sort things out for you? Well yes she did. She sorted out some shopping, a prescription and this and that and then I had to phone the advice line. I’d phone on a Monday morning and speak to Dave who would get my prescriptions and shopping on a Wednesday. I was very glad really. How are you doing now? Not too bad. It can still be a bit quiet you know. I’m still not happy about this Covid thing and being out. They bring me extra food which is nice too although I am beginning to do a bit of shopping at Iceland. I would like to thank them all for what they’ve done yes. They’ve been wonderful. Colin and How Life Changed. Colin McSherry - Volunteer How did you first get involved? I heard from Clarice at St Dunstan’s and she mentioned a group. Kelly put notes through the door and I’d been meaning to get involved and I got Kelly, Rich and Marie together firstly.
We formed our little group and then joined the bigger KCRG group through Dave and then Clare contacted me. I then became lead of our turquoise area group. What sort of activites have you been involved in? Contacting the vulnerable in our area. We started out phoning people every week and have been arranging shopping and prescriptions. My role was ‘workforce management’ for the shopping. I make sure we’ve got a team together. I do the accounting for the shopping and I do deliveries. Our team is so committed that even though they are going back to work full time, they are as committed to helping as ever. What do you see as the future of the group now? I think there is still the opportunity to look after people in difficult circumstances and are on their own. People still need support. We have cleaned fridges and homes for people who have been in hospital. These people are slipping through the social care gaps. We’ve called the ambulance for a vulnerable individual even this week. We need to try to identify more people in these circumstances. We need to try extra hard to find these people. We’re still coming across people that don’t go out at all. People were so grateful that they’ve tried to give us money which we never accept of course. I had 15 stunning volunteers in my group at the height of this and I’ve still got 10 that I can call upon at any time and I’ve got a fantastic team. I’m so grateful for their commitment. Team Torquoise Unicorn, you’re amazing! Should any of these things ring true for you, do please ring the advice line on 07534 071466 we are still here to help.

KEYNSHAM COMMUNITY FRIDGE K
eynsham Community Fridge reopened at a limited capacity on 5th October. A Community Fridge is a way of making surplus food, which is perfectly good to eat, available to anyone who wants it. The food is donated from local retailers and suppliers and placed in a location that is accessible to the general public. There are now over 100 Community Fridges operating throughout the country as a way of reducing food waste that is a net contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. Keynsham Community Fridge had to close down
during the Covid lockdown but there have been strenuous efforts to re-open it operating in a way that is safe and secure for everyone involved. The fridge is now working in partnership with new community groups and additional volunteers, and free food will be available under a supervised arrangement in cooperation with Temple Street Canteen from Monday to Saturday. Changes are expected as the fridge seeks to respond to ever-changing trading guidelines. Check out Keynsham Community Fridge Facebook page to see what food is available each day.

eynsham Town has recently re-launched the COVID 19 Pandemic Community Resilience Contingency Fund. Back in March, the Town Council set up a £10,000 Community Resilience Contingency Fund to assist organisations in their endeavors to support all those in self-isolation, particularly residents in AtRisk categories or otherwise vulnerable during the COVID pandemic. As the country enters a second wave of virus transmission/infection the Council felt it might be a good time to remind everyone that support is available for organisations who will be continuing to assist the community in keeping COVID-safe. Some examples of how the Town Council has provided support either financially or in respect of goods are as follows: • Churches Together and Covid-19 Community Support group - mobile phones/SIM charges for the befriending and Covid-19 community support lines,
• Various organisations - PPE for volunteers, • Community at 67 - Contribution towards utility costs to keep the venue open for operating food collection/donation services in the absence of any income from hire charges • Grant to Keynsham & District Lions Club to purchase materials to make face coverings for local health and social care workers For more information or to request an application form email deputytownclerk@keynsham-tc.gov.uk or telephone 07904 161097. High StreetCLOSURE UPDATE
F
ollowing a review and a meeting with local Councillors, BANES Cabinet Member for Transport, Councillor Joanna Wright, has asked for the operating hours of the closure to be changed from 9am – 5pm to 10am – 4pm instead. The purpose of this is to help disabled drivers with severe mobility issues be able to park in the High Street up until 10am but retaining the road
closure for social distancing at the times of the day when there are most people around. B&NES Council need to amend the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order and signage before they can confirm the date the changes will take effect. The Town Council is running a survey in this edition on the impact on residents of the current arrangements.
NEW WHEELCHAIR SWING FOR KELSTON PARK PLAY AREA
T
he proposed plans for the new Kelston Park play area were published in the last edition of Keynsham News and work is now underway to provide this together with the other improvements to Kelston Park in a joint £110k project between B&NES and the Town Council. At the time of considering the plans, the Town Council were mindful of the input from Keynsham Now Youth Council in respect of equipment suitable for play by the less able. With B&NES’ assistance, a further tender was issued and the Town Council has now agreed to contribute a further £8550 of CIL receipts to the project in order that the wheelchair swing (pictured right) can be included as part of the new play area. The play area refurbishment is progressing well.
At the time of going to press, the safety surfacing was about to be laid and a tree and bulb planting activity to take place from Friday 16th October. A final completion date has not yet been agreed, as the Wheelchair Swing now also needs to be installed.

Launch of The St Monica Trust Winter Support Fund T
he world has changed in so many ways in 2020 and this brings with it a significant amount of uncertainty for individuals and organisations. The St Monica Trust Community Impact Team has been honoured to support a range of organisations across the West of England during these unsettling times and we are committed to finding ways of continuing our support. As we move into the colder (and wetter!) weather, the way we coped with lockdown before will need to change as well. Many organisations are telling us that the cost of adapting their ways of working is a constant challenge and that they worry about the impact on the older people that they support. In response to these conversations, we are pleased to launch our Winter Support Fund, providing grants of up to £1,000 to charities, community groups and social enterprises to help them in continuing their support of older people during the winter months. The Winter Support Fund can support organisations to purchase equipment needed to safely deliver activities and services, or it may be used to help you reimagine a previously muchloved activity. If the older people you are working with have identified a specific local need, then the Winter Support Fund could help you to address this. We want to support projects that are clearly needed and that continue to empower older people in the region.
The Winter Support Fund will be running for the rest of this year and in order to provide funds quickly and efficiently we will be reviewing bids on a fortnightly basis. Deadlines are: • 13th November 2020 • 27th November 2020 • 11th December 2020 St Monica Trust is pleased to be able to support older people in the region during this time and our individual giving is still also open for gifts and grants, and the application can be accessed here: www.stmonicatrust.org.uk/supportingcommunities/community-giving. If you have any questions regarding the Winter Support Fund, please email Angelina Shoemake, Community Giving Manager at angelina.shoemake@stmonicatrust.org.uk

RESIDENTS HIGH STREET SURVEY QUESTIONS At its meeting in June, the Town Council supported a proposal by B&NES to instigate a temporary closure of the High Street from Monday 13th July, to provide more space for social distancing.in order to protect public health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the road has been closed to vehicles every day between 9am and 5pm, except for Dial-a-Ride access although cyclists have been able to use the road in both directions at all times. The High Street bus stop has been temporarily relocated to Ashton Way. The road closure will remain in place for as long as social distancing is necessary although refinements to the arrangements are being considered by B&NES as Keynsham News goes to press. The Town Council are conducting a survey of local businesses (including those in Bath Hill/Temple Street/Rock Road) to gauge their feelings on how the closure has impacted their businesses for better or worse.
However, the Town Council would also like to hear from residents as to whether the closure is encouraging them to visit the High Street or having the opposite effect. We also want to know how you feel the High Street should evolve going forwards. The inner page of this edition of Keynsham New contains a pull-out survey. KEYNSHAM HIGH STREET HERITAGE ACTION ZONE CULTURAL PROGRAM BID T
here are two significant public realm improvement projects being undertaken in Keynsham Town centre. (1) Phase 1 Public Realm improvements - funded by £1.5m from WECA and £193,000 s106 matched funding B&NEs to support the rejuvenation of the central High Street area and improve the public realm with decluttering, wider pavements, improved crossings, signage and street furniture (2) Phase 2 , the High Streets Heritage Action Zone programme (HSHAZ) to make the high street a more attractive, engaging and vibrant place for people to live, work and spend time, with culture and creativity will play a crucial role in this. The £1.1m grant, leveraged with matched funding of £40,000 from Keynsham Town Council and £100,000 CIL funding from B&NES, will support further public realm improvements in keeping with its status as a conservation area to include Upper High Street and Temple Street areas, and additionally focusing on sympathetic improvements to shop front design in the High Street.
NEW CULTURAL Programme Bid In partnership with Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England is now offering support and funding for the development and production of cultural programmes and partnerships that will complement the work of the High Streets HAZ Programme. The cultural programme will take place alongside the capital development works taking place on the high street and will act as a way for people to engage with that building and development work, celebrating the local character and heritage of the location and make High Streets a key place to experience and participate in culture. Keynsham is setting up a Cultural Consortium of many local organisations and stakeholders to put the program/bid together and then deliver the activities. It is envisages a significant bid of up to £120k funding will be applied for and the Town Council, as nominated Cultural Consortium lead in the main grant application, needs to prepare and submit the bid by 11th December 2020. If you have any suggestions for activities and events that may fit with this brief that you feel should be included in the bid, please Email townclerk@keynsham-tc.gov.uk by 23rd November 2020.

KEYNSHAM IN BLOOM AS THE SEASONS MOVE ON
A
The Crown in the park is looking much brighter too with its colourful pansy bedding.
We recently, undertook a morning of litter picking and weeding of the Keynsham Railway Station which is now looking much smarter. The troughs on the platform have been planted up with ‘berries and cream’ hyacinths and these are soon to be joined by ‘berries and cream’ pansies.
Over 25 hours of volunteer time have already been spent on the Pocket Park, in memory of Dee James. They had weeded and removed bags of bind weed and brambles, created a colourful flower bed on top of one of the walls and In Bloom have appointed contractors to work on improving the lawn.
s we say goodbye to the Town’s beautiful hanging baskets, the In Bloom volunteer team move on to other projects.
Recently, some fantastic troughs were installed, these were planted up by Barry and Susie from Keynsham Mencap Group.
Our volunteer teams have been out planting up our estate shopping centre planters (Chandag Road & Holmoak) with winter bedding plants. The main planters on the High Street and Temple Street are to receive their winter bedding soon.
The troughs and plants were kindly funded by B&NES Ward Councillor Lisa O’Brien from her Ward Councillors’ Empowerment Fund. In the next month or so, they will be installing two further planters, a bed of Remember Me Roses and a very special bench in memory of Dee.

COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE LEVY - SUGGESTIONS SOUGHT FOR COMMUNITY PROJECTS WHAT IS CIL The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a new tariff system that allows B&NES to raise funds from developers to contribute to the costs of providing some of the infrastructure needed for new development and to mitigate the impact of the increased number of homes/residents. Unlike S106 money, CIL money does not need to be used for providing infrastructure on the site it is collected from. The proportion given to Keynsham Town Council is known as a “meaningful proportion” and for areas where there is no Neighbourhood Plan in place, this equates to 15% of CIL receipts from development within the Town/Parish area up to a maximum of £100 per Council Tax dwelling per annum. However the proportion will rise to 25% once the Keynsham Neighbourhood Development Plan is approved by referendum and, with the future plan for the Keynsham North new development, this could represent a substantial additional sum of CIL

money being received by Keynsham providing the Neighbourhood Plan has been “MADE”. What is the Town Council doing with its CIL? The Town Council has already received a considerable amount of CIL over the last 3 years in response to the ongoing developments at Hygge Park and along Charlton Rd. Some has already been spent/allocated (e.g.£24k for Kelston Park play area, £40k for the Heritage Action Zone project in the town centre). However, in 2019 the Town Council also agreed to allocate up to £10,000 per year from the Town Council’s CIL receipts towards small value projects suggested by the community. What can CIL be spent on? CIL cannot be spent on just any old project – it must be spent on projects that satisfy one of the criteria below: A) the provision, improvement, replacement, operation or maintenance of infrastructure; or

to make suggestions on possible projects to be included as part of the budgets being drawn up for the next two years. A suggestions/application form is available from the Town Council by emailing deputytownclerk@ keynsham-tc.gov.uk or contacting the office on 07904 161097. Remember the suggestions have to relate to improving physical or social infrastructure to help mitigate the increased demands that new development places on the Keynsham area. So whether this is some new play equipment, improving rights of way or a small project to benefit your local neighbourhood then please submit your suggestions to the Town Council for consideration.
TOWN COUNCIL ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
K
eynsham Town Council (KTC) would like to thank everyone who has suggested tree planting sites around the area. Tree planting is just one of the objectives the Council had to help meet our Climate Emergency target of being carbon neutral by 2030. Unfortunately, our tree planting project is currently on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions, but we are still preparing to start planting as soon as we can. The Environmental and Sustainability Committee of Keynsham Town Council which is made up of Councillors and community representatives is currently working on a strategy and project plan on how, to achieve this and improve our local environment. This follows on from the hugely successful Environmental showcase day that the
Council organised in March. This event brought together many of the wide-ranging groups in the area already working to improve the environment and an opportunity to show how people can get involved. The Council has also increased the grants this year that community groups can apply for to support their environmental work and projects. “We all need to work together and play our part in reducing our impact on the planet. We are lucky to have many fantastic groups working on reducing use of plastics and green sustainable energy for example already working in our community.” said Cllr Alan Greenfield, Chair of the Environmental and Sustainability Committee. “Keynsham Town Council will continue to help facilitate, support and cooperate in all environmental matters to become carbon neutral by 2030.”

NEW LOOK FOR UPPER MEMORIAL PARK Tennis/MULTISPORTS COURTS
T
he Keynsham Upper Memorial Park multiuse/tennis courts are going to be closed for refurbishment from February 2021. The Town Council is therefore only taking limited bookings until the end of December The Town Council currently leases the multi-use from Bath and North East Somerset Council on a short-term lease following the expiry of the longterm lease in 2018. B&NES have been working with the LTA over recent years to develop a plan to increase usage of the public tennis courts across Bath and North East Somerset. The objective is to refurbish a number of facilities across the area and then to put in place an operational model to drive participation in tennis and ensure that enough income can be derived to ensure a sustainable future for the new facilities. The LTA has identified Keynsham Memorial Park within the top 1000 parks in the UK for demand and has a predicted unique usage of in excess of 1,000 players per annum which would make the courts well used. The plan is to refurbish the courts to bring them up to up to Lawn Tennis Association standards which will mean resurfacing the courts.
between now and the end of December, please ensure appropriate risk assessments are supplied with any booking requests to the Town Council and that they comply with the COVID guidance issued by the respective sports association for team training/matches and any Government advice operating at the time. Please send your requests to admin@keynsham-tc.gov.uk or ring the Town Council office on 07904 161097

KTCRfm Local Radio K
TCRfm is a not-for-profit public broadcasting local radio service. It is required to broadcast non-stop seven days a week every week, which it does, and provide a required number of locally produced radio programmes. Well over 20 hours a week of local programmes are produced by a team of around 35 people of all ages. Additions to the weekly schedule since the last edition of the Keynsham News include the weekly Western League Football show which covers the progress of Keynsham Town FC and eight other local teams that are in the KTCRfm area, including Bitton, Brislington, Cadbury Heath and Oldland Abbotonians – the Western league covering west country football from Dorset to Plymouth. Another welcome addition is the weekly Phil Gibbon’s What’s On Review covering all kinds of events in the Bristol and Bath area. Due to lock-down and social distancing the KTCRfm staff have met together just once since the station began in January – and yet not one programme has been dropped or missed during the whole period. All communication and programme making is electronic, although never envisaged the production style has been totally successful.
JT PAVING
KTCRfm will, and does, depend on some advertising and sponsorship to pay its way. Costs are expensive. Extra government help, both locally and nationally, have ensured that the station has kept broadcasting. Advertising from local businesses is sought however and, radio advertising is both very effective and cheap. Enquiries should be addressed to ktcrfm@gmail in the first instance. Anybody interested in working in radio, either in presenting or producing should contact KTCRfm in the same way. For those with enthusiasm there will be ways round the current restrictions. KTCRfm has also been part of a pioneering local radio national project promoting radio drama. The Connections series of radio dramas broadcast over August, dealing with lock-down and social isolation have now been booked by the BBC for Radio 4 broadcast in November. But you heard them on KTCRfm first – or could have! Subsequently KTCRfm broadcast further radio dramas under the title of Radio Zummerzet during October. The next project has to be radio drama written and produced in the KTCRfm home area. Budding playwriters are welcome to contact the station.

To keep listening to KTCRfm you might think that a radio is the best way! Its great on a car stereo. But KTCRfm can be heard almost anywhere in the world via the website www.ktcrfm.com and has a listen again or catch up facility where programmes can be heard at any time during the seven days after their first scheduled broadcast. The station has regular listeners in place as far afield as Australia and India. KTCRfm is now available via various world-wide radio search-engines too, and Radio Garden is a treat well worth looking at: It’s basically a Google Earth of radio stations, looks great, and opens up the whole world of radio. Just navigate the globe, in the same way as with Google Earth, and zoom in on your favourite places and their local radio stations – they start to play automatically as soon as you click on them. Very good with keeping up to date with your holiday haunts, or with KTCRfm when far from home.

TOWN COUNCIL OFFICES FINALLY REFURBISHED! I
t has not been an easy 18 months for the Town Council. The offices at 15-17 Temple Street had to be evacuated in April 2019 owing to the contamination with dust and noise from the Riverside construction works, followed by 3 separate water leaks over the summer, again as a result of the construction works. So last year, the administrative staff had to work from the B&NES Civic Centre which meant residents needed to visit the library (or ring the temporary number 07904 161097) in order for the staff to meet with them to deal with their enquiries face to face. The offices were finally in the process of being refurbished when the country entered COVID Lockdown in March and the majority of office staff have been working from home since then (although you may have seen the Clerk or Deputy Town Clerk working in there throughout the course of the pandemic and residents have been able to visit the office by appointment if required). Our grounds maintenance staff have been out and about every day during the pandemic looking after the green spaces and Cemetery whilst the Youth Workers have been offering on-line activities for

The staff will be returning to the office on a rota basis in the near future and details of opening times will be published in due course on the website and social media. These timings may vary from week to week depending upon which members of staff are on duty. Please note that the door will remain closed so you will need to ring the (new) doorbell to gain entry and, in order to protect everyone’s health, any visitors will be required to use hand sanitiser upon entry, keep socially distant and to wear a mask at all times.
