Climate Emergency launched

Westfield Parish Council Launch Climate emergency

Westfield Parish Council has declared a climate change emergency. This means we will be looking at urgent steps to address this situation, prepare for the local impact of climate change and look at how we can reduce carbon emissions.

All councillors recognise the serious challenges we have to face and are keen to make a positive contribution to this work.

So far: • The Council has pledged to provide the leadership to take appropriate steps to reduce our impact on the environment • Agreed to purchase land at Waterside Valley to ensure this remains a green space for the benefit of everyone in Westfield and to promote health and well-being • We are working on a Climate Emergency Strategy and welcome everyone to get involved with this • Put pressure on B&NES Council to check the carbon emissions level outside the school, which has been agreed • We are investigating the installation of ultra-fast electric car chargers • We are investigating a tree planting policy • Encouraging schools and others to plant wild flowers

What can you do?

Come and join us at the Community Engagement Group. We would like you to help with the initiative. If you are interested, please get in touch with the Parish Clerk council@westfieldparishcouncil.co.uk

Check your carbon footprint

The World Wildlife Fund provides a carbon foot printing tool which gives an insight into your own impact on the climate and tips to help you adjust your own behaviour and lifestyle. Look out for an event later this year to celebrate this important work. Cllr Lesley Mansell Member Westfield Parish Council Climate Emergency Working Group

thank you from Westfield Brownies

3rd Westfield (St Peter’s) Brownies would like to say a very big thank you to Westfield Parish Council for their kind donation of £750 towards the purchase of equipment to help deliver the new Girlguiding programme.

Their unit have only recently started back to face to face meetings and the Brownies were happy when they were shown the items purchased.
