Editorial
The importance of plastics for the manufacture and handling of medical products is continually increasing all over the world. Requirements will continue to grow, not only from the point of view of costs. Thanks to their specific technical properties and wide range of application, they offer numerous advantages in comparison to other materials. Thus, for example, our iglidur® polymer plain bearings run lubricant and maintenance-free. There is a wide range of hygienic design solutions available, too: without grease and oil, corrosion-free, easy to clean! The same applies to our igubal® pivoting bearings, DryLin® linear plain bearings and xiros® polymer ball bearings. igus® offers you more than 10,000 plain bearing items ex stock, within 24 hours or the same day. Without minimum order quantities, from one single unit. 29 catalogue materials are René Achnitz available for almost every application. This ranges from FDAconform bearings through to high-temperature or underwater bearings. We will be happy to visit you on site to answer questions about your application. Equally, you are very welcome to come and visit us at igus®: We have now completed the 60-percent extension of our lean factory at our Cologne headquarters. igus® now produces, tests and researches in Cologne in buildings with a total area of 36,000 m². You are more than welcome to give us a call, too. We are available from 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday, and from 8 am to midday on Saturdays.

for innovative artificial hips
After lower limbs have been amputated, it is important to regain mobility. Wear-resistant polymer plain bearings made of iglidur® Z ensure better movement in artificial hips. The new artificial limb for people amputated at the hip made by Otto Bock Healthcare compensates the missing muscles to a large extent and reduces the amount of physical effort required to walk. The foot‘s rolling motion is harmonic under full load. The forces that occur under oscillating movement are transmitted reliably without any increase in play. Four plastic plain bearings made of iglidur® Z prove their wear-resistance on the two main axes. The maintenance-free bearings absorb extreme loads and have high mechanical damping at the same time. This has a positive effect at edges and under impact loads.

Wear-resistant iglidur® Z plain bearings from igus® are used on the main axes.
