WELCOME Welcome to Virtual CONVO 2020! We are so glad you’ve chosen to join us on this brand new virtual adventure. It’s not what we are used to... staff had to pivot quickly to provide attendees with the top-notch experience you have become accustomed. You had to trust that the IIA of IL would continue to deliver a conference that was worth your time away from your day-to-day business. As a team, the IIA of IL Board of Directors, volunteers, and staff put together various programs focusing on the most significant issues impacting our industry - which ended up being way different topics than what we would have chosen at the beginning of 2020! As you attend sessions, don’t miss the opportunity to be in the moment, take notes, and ask questions. This entire conference is for you. This is your chance to ReTHINK, ReINVENT, and ReIMAGINE the way you do business. Whether you are an agency owner, a producer, or a CSR - this conference is what you make of it. In the words of Walt Disney, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Virtual CONVO 2020 can give you the inspiration you may need to move forward. We hope you take advantage of all the resources provided to you, not only during CONVO, but throughout the entire year. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out to IIA of IL Staff or Board Members. Shannon Churchill CONVO Coordinator

Insuring Cannabis Risks in 2020: The Challenges in a Growing Industry - Part One This class and its companion immediately following, which may be taken together or separately, are designed to be an introduction to the insurance issues related to national changes in marijuana possession and use laws. The course has a particular emphasis on examining the commercial risks, but also addresses the personal lines/homeowner’s insurance issues. The chief objective of the course is to have students gain a wideranging sensitivity for the issues they might encounter if asked to insure a dispensary (or a home-grower, too). A secondary objective is to bring people up-to-date on state and federal treatment of marijuana and allied products. Another secondary objective is to have insurance personnel become sensitive to the coverage issues which may arise connected to marijuana, especially in the situations in which the risk has not been thoroughly previewed and underwritten before the loss. Creating Opportunities Out of COVID
Check out this video from host Ryan Hanley to learn more about this dynamic session. The insurance industry just experienced five years of customer experience push in less than five months. Work from home isn’t a luxury anymore. You have rapidly implemented VOIP phone services and moved your Agency Management System to the cloud. Automation is creeping into every aspect of your business. What the heck is going on?!
Ryan Hanley
The clients you serve today act differently than the clients you’ve spent a lifetime serving. Don’t panic, now more than ever the human advantage of independent insurance agencies is showing it’s true value. In this session, we’re going to explore exactly what you should and should not be focusing on in order to build out your own version of the human-optimized agency. Sponsored by:
During the session we will have a good time with tons of fun. There will be competitions, lots of laughs, some great entertainment (at their expense) and hopefully some tremendous value for your agency on ideas you can follow up on and use to build your business.

Innovation in Long-Term Care Funding with Life Insurance Many companies that market either (or both) life insurance and Long-Term Care insurance (LTCI) are going through substantial changes in contract language, riders, and pricing structure. The LTCI marketplace - which can provide long-term funding for those that experience various chronic and/or critical medical conditions - has seen many carriers abandon the sale of that product in the last several years. Of those that remain, many have increased the renewal premiums for their in-force contracts. Pricing for new sales have also seen substantial increase. On the other hand, a number of carriers in the life insurance industry have introduced varying ways to fund the on-going cost for care that - until recently - was only available with a traditional LTCI contract. The Living Benefit rider (or policy provision) is now available with many carrier’s permanent products. Some carriers even have this available with term insurance contracts. What does the language with this rider (or provision) allow? Should the insured qualify, they might be able to access a portion of the death-benefit amount should a critical, chronic, or terminal illness need arise. The cash advance could be as high as 50% to 100% of the death benefit.

Data Going Beyond the Buzz Word
The new buzzword is data. The trouble with buzzwords is if the end user cannot relate to it – it just becomes noise. We hear statements like “Agencies of today and the future that want to compete and continue to meet the expectations of their customers must be data-driven.” What does that mean? Think of data as the numbers, information and trends that exist inside your agency right now. By their very nature, independent agencies are data rich organizations, but leveraging that data can be very challenging. In this keynote session, learn how to get around the buzzword and how to use your existing data for greater success.
