The Instituto de Investigación y Desarrollo Educativo (IIDE) is one of the eight institutes from UABC dedicated to the training of researchers. Its original conception was oriented based on the idea of having a research center that would help to identify, explain and find answers to the educational practice phenomena. Almost 22 years from its creation, the IIDE has been consolidated as an academic space that carries out research in the educational field and trains research professionals in a post graduate level, which has gained it a national and international recognition due to its contribution to the academic development of UABC, Baja California State and the country. As part of the general reflection of the IIDE scholars we have identified the need of having mechanisms that allow us to spread the IIDE's projects, programs and activities, in order to give a wider visibility to the work we develop as scholars, students and the academic community whit which we are related to.

IIDENTIDAD comes to life from this context. We hope that both the design and the content suit you and that the monthly publication would allow us to inform the community about the dynamic, nature and scopes of the activity generated from our Institute.
Project of the month Participation of the IIDE in the Teacher's training and updating from the Educational System of Baja California. How many university students have a cell phone? How many of those are Smartphones? What are they used for? These are just a few questions that guided the development of the formulation of this research, which has as purpose to explore the type of mobile technology that students and teachers from UABC Ensenada (both campus) have, and to characterize the type of applications used and the educational use given to them. This research began in January 2011 under the coordination of Dr. Javier Organista Sandoval, in the framework of the research parameters designed by the Digital Technology in Education Academic Board. Sandra Macias and Cesar Leon, both students of the master participate in the project along with Patricio Henriquez, a doctorate student. The project is financed by the 15th internal call of UABC. Some preliminary outcomes show that the majority of the student community counts with some type of cell phone device and has a computer and access to the internet at home. These results have been shown in three national and international conferences and the publication of a couple of articles in two international magazines is expected. Recently Patricio Henriquez Ritchie, student of the doctorate, presented a lecture in Valencia, Spain with the preliminary outcomes of this research.

Nowadays, patrons of educational uses are being identified to precise a typology of use that explains the pedagogical potential that Smartphones could have. It is important to highlight that this is the first study of its kind, is the first time
