This issue of the newsletter IIDENTIDAD briefly documents academic activities developed by administrative and academic community of the Institute conducted during the months of March and early April. In IIDENTIDAD No. 9 is highlighted, in the first instance, the activity regarding the links by the Institute. It documents the Advisory Council meeting of the Educational Assessment Unit where institutions and agencies involved working for the quality of education in Baja California, the Advisory Council meeting EXHCOBA, involving those responsible for educational institutions in 2012 served as the test users, and working meetings with education authorities and other state agencies with whom we work in the foundation for the creation of an Institute for Initial and Continuing Training in the state.

Finally, this edition of the newsletter describes the project of the month "Influence of family factors on school performance of students in the upper secondary level" project coordinated by Prof. Martin Rosas Morales.
Project of the month “Influence of the family according to their structure in the student's school performance from upper secondary level." This research, coordinated by Prof. Martin Rosas Morales, aims to explore family factors that facilitate or hinder the academic performance of students from high school. The development of this project is based largely on the thesis project of Gabriella Flores Celaya, student of the Master in Educational Sciences from the IIDE. The project involves the application of various measuring instruments to a sample of socioeconomic status, education level of parents and family cultural capital. The design of the questionnaires will count with the participation of specialists in the development of tools as well as specialists in the legal area and psychology, plus some school principals. These questionnaires will be applied electronically in various high schools from Ensenada, Tijuana and Mexicali.

Prof. Martin Rosas Morales holds a degree in Oceanography from the UABC and is a graduate student from the Master in Networking and Information Technology, from CETYS. He participated in recent years as Head of SICODEX, a platform that supports the operation of EXHCOBA. He is a member the Academic Educational Evaluation Unit.
The project counts with the advice from Dr. Laura Padilla González, researcher of the Unit for Advanced Studies at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, who has provided advice and support to the project on conceptual and instrumental aspects. The methodological part of this research will be presented in November at the congress organized by the Mexican Council for Educational Research (COMIE).

Student from the IIDE gets degree of Master in Educational Sciences. On March 20th, Maria del Rayo López Contreras earned the degree of Master in Educational Sciences by presenting the replica of her exam. The research presented is entitled "Evidence of concurrent validity of the test Program of complete Development of the Person" directed by Dr. Backhoff Eduardo Escudero. The IIDE Advises the State Educational System in the creation of an Institute for Initial and Continuing Training. Four months ago, at a meeting held in the state education system in the presence of its director, Mr. Javier Santillan, and in company with the State Secretaries of Education, the Director of Continuing Education of Teachers in Service Ministry of Education, the Minister President of the Coalition for Social Participation in Education from Baja California, Mr. Alfredo Postlethwaite, and the IIDE Principal, Dr. Joaquin Caso Niebla, decided to entrust our Institute a project for the creation of an institute to articulate, systematize and streamline formation, upgrade, training and improvement of teachers that exist in the state. At the same meeting it was also agreed that the project would be entrusted to Dr. Graciela Cordero Arroyo, IIDE researcher, since she is one with the largest knowledge specialists who focus on the field and a career that has national and international recognition in this area.

recommendations that resulted from that meeting are accomplished, the document will be submitted for consideration to the State Congress by the head of the state education system and representatives of various civil society organizations from Baja California. In this project, coordinated by Dr. Cordero Arroyo, was also involved Prof. Claudia Navarro, a PhD student in Educational Sciences from the IIDE, and a body of advisors with expertise in the legal and public administration.
From then to date, the project has built in detail international pronouncements that have been made in this regard, analyzed and documented the regulations governing this activity in Mexico, and worked on the basis of a decree that defines its object of study, faculties, property, government, social participation mechanisms and financing, among other things. On Friday April 12th, in the presence of state educational authorities, Dr. Cordero Arroyo presented a first version of the decree creating the Training Institute of Initial and Continuing Professional Education. During the months of March and April the Educational Research Seminar was attended by two graduates of the Master in Educational Sciences, who presented the results of their research to the academic community of the IIDE. On March 20th, Prof. Antelmo Castro Lopez, a PhD student, presented "The entry into the teaching service in Baja California: a view from the responsive evaluation," research that shows the impact of the assessment program for entry into service teacher in Baja California, in order to understand its complexity from the discussion with agents involved.

Open call to enroll in the Doctorate in Educational Sciences. The Institute for Educational Research and Development (IIDE) from UABC, recently issued a call for the admission to the PhD in Educational Sciences, whose classes start in mid-September this year. The program aims to train human resources capable of generating new and original knowledge about the object of study of science education, and to conduct independent research and cutting edge with an interdisciplinary view of relevant educational issues at a state, regional and national levels. Much of the given recognition to the PhD rests on the personal attention provided to students, so only about 15 students will be accepted. The receipt of the documents is scheduled from May 6th to 24th, while the application of the test will be on May 27th. 6

The Academic Council of the UEE meets for the 11th time. On Wednesday, at 10:30 am, met for the first time ten members of the Advisory Council of the UEE from the Institute of Educational Research and Development (IIDE) of UABC. The session lasted four hours that allowed the relief agenda. In particular, they presented the report of activities carried out during 2012 by the UEE, among which are hosting the forum "UEE contribution to the development of an evaluation culture in Baja California", held as part of the seventh anniversary of Unit; First Iberoamerican Forum of Educational Assessment and the development of a research project with the Latin American Network of School Coexistence. In this session were also presented the results of the Comprehensive Evaluative Strategy Coalition 2011 and 2012, researches previously documented and which results have been disseminated through various media in secondary schools of the state. There were also presented the projects that are part of the evaluative agenda committed in 2013.

Advisory Council meets EXHCOBA. In order to present the progress in the development and updating educational institutions Exam users of the Examen de Habilidades y Conocimientos Bรกsicos (EXHCOBA) on Friday April 12th was the third meeting of its Advisory Council. The meeting presented the recent developments of the new version of the review, including the results of the pilot conducted in various states of the country. Also, were treated points concerning the suspension of the assignment of rights contract that supersedes, for this year, the cooperation agreements between the UABC and institutions using this service. Among those attending the meeting were representatives from the University of Guanajuato, the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez, the University of Sonora, the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolรกs de Hidalgo, the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, the Autonomous University of Queretaro and the Sonora State University.

The IIDE assists the School of Gastronomy and Enology with courses on Research Methodology . In February of this year, the directors of the School of Gastronomy and Enology and IIDE agreed to establish mechanisms that enable interinstitutional relationship, on the one hand, strengthen the teaching of the subjects "Research Methodology" and "Descriptive Statistics "in that academic unit, and allow, creating spaces for advanced training of the PhD in Educational Sciences of our Institute. Thus, from March 16th to April 16th, Prof. Antelmo Castro Lopez, taught the course "Research Methodology" to a group of 33 students in the second semester, via modular form. The course successfully evaluated both by school and by the students themselves, concluded with the presentation of papers on a research colloquium held on April 15th and 16th 8

In this symposium, participating as evaluation committee were professors Monica Lopez, Monica Monsivais, and Noah Canseco, all students in our graduate programs. Currently a second course is taught "Research Methodology" and soon the course Statistics will be teach, same to be in charge of Yadira Perez, another distinguished students from our post graduate program.
Researchers from the IIDE are recognized for their contribution to the UABC. Researcher represents the IIDE in international congress. Recently Dr. Lewis McAnally Salas presented "Understanding the online-education diffusion process at a Mexican University through Social Network Analysis", in the framework of the Winter Conference of the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE). This paper documents some of the progress and results of research that aims to understand and map the process of diffusion of online education between 1996 and 2009 at a public university.
Dr. McAnally was commissioned to represent the IIDE in Italy.
The ATEE is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to improve the quality of teacher training and to support the teachers' professional development at all levels.The conference took place from March 7th to 9th in Genoa, Italy, bringing together researchers from all around the world.

Administrative staff from the IIDE receives course on emotional intelligence. During the week of March 19th to 22nd IIDE administrative staff attended the course "Emotional Intelligence", taught by psychologist Elizabeth Espinoza Valenzuela in Campus Ensenada, as part of the training courses offered by the University to the administrative staff of this institution. In this course, organized by the Department of Human Resources UABC, attended by the IIDE Rosalva Borraz Ordonez, Yesica Espinoza Espinoza and Denisse Perez Sanchez, secretaries of the academic unit. The course lasted eight hours in which topics such as emotional self-control, motivation, recognition of others' emotions and relationships, to name a few.

Presence of the IIDE in International Congress on Education in Peru. From March 5th to 8th in Lima, Peru, was held the IV Symposium of the Latin American Network Researchers on Evaluation of Teaching (RIIED), called "The evaluation of teaching in Latin America: progress, prospects and innovation.” The congress counted with the participation of researchers from universities and educational institutions in different countries, highlighting the interventions from Drs. Graciela Cordero Arroyo and Edna Luna Serrano, IIDE researchers, who presented the results of their academic research projects. In this regard, Dr. Cordero presented "The Challenges of teaching evaluation in Latin America ", while Dr. Luna presented “The teaching evaluation at Iberoamerica: progress, perspectives and innovation”.
The IIDE was represented in a International Symposium.
In this academic event also participated Prof. Erika Paola Reyes Piñuelas, a PhD student in Educational Sciences, with the paper "Properties driving as part of their activity questionnaire psychometric teaching competence" theme linked to her thesis project.
