Identification of Active Constituents Present in the Ethanolic Extract of Acacia Decurrens (Green Wattle) Leaf Biomass by HPLC Sakthi.G, Venkatachary Jayanthy Abstract— A simple sensitive, precise method of HPLC was developed and validated for the quantitative, and semiquantative Phytochemical analysis of Acacia Decurrens leaf biomass. The ethanolic extract of the plant is used for the analysis is used for the identification of active constituents. Thus HPLC analysis showed the presence of Gallic acid and theophylline at the prominent peak with a RT value of 4.532 and 5.558 respectively. Index Terms— Acacia Decurrens , Gallic acid, Phytochemical, theophylline, semiquantative.
II. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
I. INTRODUCTION Acacia Decurrens is a wild plant that grows along with eucalyptus and acacias. Phytochemical occur naturally in plants that pocess biologically active chemical compounds. Phytochemicals provide color aroma and flavor for the plants and also act as a natural defense system for the host plants. Medicines have large contributions to human being and plants have provided a great source of novel drug compounds and they are derived from plants. Thus the secondary metabolites produced from the plant showed a great potential in treating human diseases[1]HPLC is gaining the increasing importance in the analysis of the plant extracts. Thus the quantative analysis produces a finger print chromatogram, which can be used for the quality control of Phytochemical. The analysis of bioactive compounds by HPLC describes the use of technique for the screening of active constituents present in the acacia Decurrens plant extract [6]. Materials and methods: The components present in the whole tissues of Acacia Decurrens were extracted in ethanol and analyzed using HPLC, was used for the analysis.

HPLC analysis with a prominent peak of RT value 4.532 revealed the presence of theophylline. Theophylline is a natural isomer of purine base has a wide action on plants. It was found that theophylline may increase the cyclic AMP levels during germination and elongation .A prominent peak with a RT of 5.558 showed the presence of Gallic acid.

Gallic acid seems to have anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Gallic acid acts as an antioxidant and helps to protect cells against oxidative damage.
