Christian Anemia One of my favorite verses is "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17, ESV). Iron-Deficiency Anemia is common. It's a lack of iron in the body. Iron is vital because it helps get enough oxygen throughout the body. An iron-deficiency can cause physical symptoms like weakness, dizziness, or trouble concentrating. Encouraged by Steve Farrar’s book, Point Man, I submit some have Christian Anemia; a lack of iron in their lives. Do we experience the above symptoms spiritually? What are other spiritual symptoms of a lack of iron in our lives? I know I've not sharpened others as I should. As iron sharpens iron, one might picture 2 knives grinding blade edges together causing sparks to fly. However, the rest of the verse reveals that only one sharpens the other. The iron pieces do not mutually sharpen each other at the same time. Iron can be made into many different forms. This verse doesn’t specifically speak of 2 knives. It speaks of 2 pieces of iron. One piece of iron could’ve been a knife but the other piece of iron was most likely an iron tool, much like a file. Only one sharpens the other. They are still iron but they

are used for different purposes. We need to be iron; sometimes a knife, sometimes a file. We need to sharpen others and be sharpened by those around us. Are we the iron file to sharpen others or do we wait around for someone else to sharpen us? Sharpening others involves (but isn’t limited to) speaking the truth in love, encouraging another with the Gospel, and reminding others about God’s promises. Church is a great place to sharpen and be sharpened. I encourage you seek out other people that you can sharpen and that can sharpen you. We must be about sharpening others. In turn, I believe we will be sharpened by others. What iron will you be today? by G.W. Fuller Grass Fed ~ No steroids, hormones, or antibiotics!

The Idol of Appreciation by Dr. Paul Tripp With Father’s Day this month, I want to look at a common idol among parents - the idol of appreciation. Let me first say that I don't have any problems with Father’s Day. I think we should be proactive in honoring our mothers and fathers (Exodus 20:12), but because of sin, when good things become ruling things, they become bad things. We've changed the bed that had been wet once again. We've made the special skateboard-shaped birthday cakes. We've sat in on meetings with the principal. We've spent hours making the papier-mâché volcano. We've sat through scores of painful recitals, spent thousands on memorable vacations. We've given up our dreams to pay for musical instruments and braces. Isn't it about time that we get some credit? I can't tell you how many times I've heard parts of this list recited to me by parents, always with that same final punch line - "isn't it about time that we get some credit?" It seems so logical, so harmless, so right. Children should appreciate their parents. Yet, being appreciated cannot be our goal. When it becomes the thing we live for, we'll unwittingly look with hypervigilant eyes for appreciation in every situation.

this happens to you, erect stones as a lasting memorial or light an eternal flame!) On the contrary, the trend for children to be much more filled with selforientation and self-interest than to be filled with an awareness and appreciation of others. So, if you forget your own vertical relationship with God as you minister to your kids – and if you think of parenting as an "I serve, you appreciate" contract – you’ll struggle with lots of discouragement and anger during parenting. Parents, you need to ask yourself again - "Why am I doing what I'm doing? Who am I serving? What are the things that I've come to expect and demand? Whose desires rule the moments of opportunity with my child - God's or mine?" This resource is from Paul Tripp Ministries. For additional resources, visit PaulTripp.com. Used with permission.

Making Summer Memories (with the little ones) by Ona Fuller T I P S 1. Never stop reading: There are some great programs this summer that are fun and will foster a love for reading! The Springfield Greene County Library District has already begun their program called Dig Into Reading. Stop by your nearest library branch to pick up an official game board. (from birth – 5th grade) Check out another summer reading program at www. howdoesshe.com/summer-readingstar-free-exclusive-printable. 2. Never stop moving: Throw open the curtains. Air up those bike tires, dust off that camping gear, and have those walking shoes ready; summer is in full swing. It's time to get moving. Do something new outside as a family.

3. Never forget your camera: Create a summer 2013 scrapbook with your kids…yes, I said with! Let your child create the left page while you create the right page. If you're brave enough, step away from the camera and let the kids take some of the pictures. 4. Always remember: Wherever you are this summer, share God's word with your kids. I greatly encourage you to read Everyday Talk by John A. Younts. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” IkthoosMagazine.com

What if...?

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.” (Matthew 5:3-10, NLT).

believe man is the measure of all things? What if the Lie taught us that only the powerful rule, only the popular matter, only the beautiful succeed, only the cruel prosper, and the only true reward in life is riches and wealth? What if that lie had the power to cause the rise and fall of nations and to punctuate our lives with pain, loss, frustration, and despair?

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” – Joseph Goebbels, Head of Nazi Propaganda

But what if God has been speaking this whole time in the background, behind the crash, the grind, the wreckage of the Lie? What if He was telling us the truth about us, about life, and reality? What if, on the mountainside in Matthew, Jesus was sitting with us and, just for a moment, was lifting the curtain, showing us the really real life–beyond the lie–a glimpse into the kingdom? What if Jesus said the Kingdom of God was breaking into Creation even now and that we could begin living in its reality...even now? And what if He really meant what He said?

What if, in the Garden of Eden, we bit into more than an apple? What if we bit into deception powerful enough to shape human history? What if the Lie made us believe that God had deceived us, and that we were homo autonomous or “a law unto ourselves”? What if the Lie made us

The world the people listening to Jesus knew was not the world being talked about on the mountain that day. The world that people knew was cruel and impatient, ruled by the rich and the powerful, driven by war and domination. They only had to look at the Roman Empire, the religious elite, the

But Jesus was talking about a radical, upside-down world where the poorest, dumbest, weakest, and least blessed among us where actually the richest, wisest, strongest, and most blessed of all. Despite the shared experience of everyone listening, Jesus spoke not of how things are but of how things should and could, can and will be... •

The humble in heart inherit the Kingdom of Heaven…not wrath.

The brokenhearted and sad are comforted…not ignored.

The meek and gentle rule the earth… instead of being abused.

Those who hunger/thirst for justice are filled…not oppressed.

The merciful receive mercy in return… not contempt.

The pure in heart see God, face to face…free from the lie.

Those who work for peace become God’s kids…not activists.

The persecuted find their home with God…not in prison.

Those who choose to live in the Kingdom now share common traits: they are humble in heart, grieved by brokenness, gentle, seeking justice, merciful, pure, working for peace, and persecuted. When you choose to live in the Kingdom, you make a choice that brave people have been making for thousands of years. You join a long line of prophets, doctors, shepherds, kings, convicts, slaves, hobos, mechanics, politicians, soldiers, bus drivers, housewives, and tax-collectors who have discovered Truth and escaped the Lie. So, what if, when Jesus spoke, you listened and watched, and you caught a glimpse of the Kingdom reality; of life as it should be? What if you believed Him and turned from the Lie and embraced the Truth that really sets you free to live and be blessed? The choice is ours, just like it was for the people on the hillside with Jesus. The Kingdom awaits! by Adam Stoddard Pastor The Table on C-Street TableonCStreet.com

Are You the Point Man?

I first read Steve Farrar’s, Point Man: How a Man Can Lead His Family, when I was deployed to the Middle East. Since then, it has shaped the way I think about my God-given role within my family. “Point man” is a military term for the Soldier assigned to the front position of a combat patrol. Farrar begins with a razor sharp war story. He also discusses Christian Anorexia and Bulimia; making spiritual comparisons to physical conditions. Farrar writes, “War has been declared on the biblical family” and “Most men would die for their families, but will they live for them?”

Are you the point man? Farrar suggests every husband and dad is the point man. But what type of point man are you? That’s the question this book addresses. It also encourages each point man to fight the good fight to lead our families as a godly husband and dad. Husbands and dads; we must TAKE POINT!

Bethesda Medical Care is a board certified family medicine practice, providing personalized healthcare for patients of all ages. For less than a dollar a day, those who enroll in our practice are able to see Dr. Graham as often as necessary, for an unhurried hour long consultation, as well as to have direct email or phone access for more urgent questions. We have acquired specialized training in tropical medicine and international health so that we can advise long-term expatriates living overseas, as well as short term overseas travelers, who may need immunization counseling. Our office is a state licensed facility for yellow fever vaccination and we stock a variety of other tropical vaccines. In addition, Dr. Graham is a FAA-designated Senior Aviation Medical Examiner. Bethesda Medical Care takes its name from the story of Jesus healing the sick man at the pool of Bethesda near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem (John 5:1-17). The name Bethesda is derived from two Hebrew words: Beth (which means “house”) and Chesed (which means “mercy” or “lovingkindness”). Our mission at Bethesda Medical Care is to become a house of mercy for the sick, as well as a place of healing for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit (I Thessalonians 5:23-24).
