Style, Luxury, and Affordability Under One Roof
"A
nnuraj Interiors is my childhood dream. I had always imagined naming an important part of me after my mother, Mrs. Annuradha (Annu) and my father Mr. Yuvraj (Raj). What would have been better than my very first and biggest asset”, Mangesh narrates the story behind his company, Annuraj Interiors. Founded in June 2004 in Pune, Annuraj Interiors was started as a one-man company by Mangesh himself. “Initially, I was handling everything, starting from receiving the order to documentation, from making the blueprint to smooth 05

execution of the entire plan of each project”, he elaborates the anecdotes. “ I invested my entire being in understanding the field, its shortcoming, the clients, the market, and eventually I started growing steadily.” Slowly, Mangesh started hiring people one by one and witnessed the steady growth of the company. “Today, we are at this stance due to our team’s progress, co-operation, and hard work”, he says. “On this podium, I offer my sincere gratitude to my entire team for bringing the best in them and making Annuraj Interiors a successful brand in the field.”

and to always strive for excellence, we overcome the problems and issues. The team of professionals is highly skilled in their respective fields and works efficiently. The founder, Mangesh, believes that the team is the strength of the company which ultimately elevates them from other competitors. Another factor that distinguishes them in the industry is their services and their rapport with the client. The company strives for excellence and believes in maintaining good relationships with its client. “We always have a one-toone conversation with the client which helps us to understand their needs and expectations”, says Mangesh. “Before starting any project, we try to understand the client’s background, lifestyle, and habits. We try to connect with the client in every possible ways to deliver our best services.” “Our mantra is to design spaces with good vibes, for good times.” 07
SOURANSHI MAGAZINE | THE NEW WAVE | MARCH-MAY 2022 Mangesh elaborates further on his belief. “We mean this statement sincerely. We design for our client's satisfaction, not for designers' satisfaction. We believe that a good design can greatly enhance and increase the value of the quality of life.”
the same.” The founder also aims to deliver the project before or at the scheduled time which, he believes, is an important aspect to achieve client satisfaction, building good relations with them, maintaining the reputation of the company, sustaining the market, and carving a path to attract future client’s. “Onschedule project delivery is one of the main aspects our team strives for and we don’t compromise over punctuality in any way.”, he says. “Our team tries to abide by the deadlines by proper documentation of site schedules. We set targets for work completion every week, and we have the utmost attention to proper project management.”
As Vastu is the essence of the qualitative and peaceful life, the designing team at Annuraj interiors works in coherence with the Vastu rule and tries to incorporate them into their projects. “Vastu experts are part of our team. We help our clients and provide them with the set of knowledge and caliber our team has in Vastu Shastra. When designing a project we try to maximize the use of vast-friendly designs without compromising functionality.”
Over the years, Annuraj Interiors has always stood by its commitment. “As a result, they have built wonderful relations with the clients and we pride ourselves when it comes to commitment because, for me, word-of-mouth means everything in business.”
Site delivery, the last step of the entire project is the most exciting one for Mangesh where he gets to experience the reaction of the client. “The moment is full of nervousness and a sense of attainment. Clients satisfaction is what matters the most at this moment and we endeavor to achieve

Interview Section Mangesh Naik, the founder of Annuraj Interiors is an experienced Interior designer with an exemplified career history in the industry. His family has over 6 decades of experience in the Wood Industry where his grandfather and father worked as carpenter contractors. His inclination towards design is derived from his observation while seeing his father working with other interior designers. An Interior Design and Decoration Graduate from MSBTE (Mumbai University), Mangesh has always been inclined toward design and drawing.
In 2004, Mangesh established Annuraj Interiors naming the company after his parents. He completed his Masters's in Interior Design at the Frankfurt University of Applied Science, Germany in 2009, to gain further knowledge about the field. Currently, the company is operating at its full capacity and offers all sorts of Interior related and other services. The Head Office is located in Chennai and undertakes Interior Projects around Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. Here is more from the conversation 10
SOURANSHI MAGAZINE | THE NEW WAVE | MARCH-MAY 2022 with Mr. Mangesh Naik. Instead of following after your family and choosing the wood Industry, you choose the Interior designing field as your career. What was your inspiration behind choosing Interior design as your profession? It was my father’s decision. I was pursuing B. Com when my father was diagnosed with cancer. He was worried about my career and future so he forcefully asked me to quit B. Com and pursue designing so that I would be fit to take over his business. I never wanted to join the wood industry because I didn’t feel any pull or calling toward the field. However, my father knew my strengths and comprehended what I was capable of achieving in the future. He believed that Interior Design is a perfect career for me. After completing the degree course, I started Annuraj Interiors. I feel fortunate that my father understood my strength, believed in me and chose the right career for me. Well, that’s an interesting and fortunate turn of events. Now you have been working in the industry for almost 2 decades. What are the factors that motivated you to keep working in this field?
Mangesh: “Satisfaction” is the word that drives me to keep working harder in the field. The outcome of my hard work and the client's expectations helps me keep moving towards the goal of my company. Designing a home as per the client brings in recognition and appreciation throughout. I truly believe that a positive work environment would bring out the best in me and also help me to come up with the best ideas and provide the best solutions for my clients. Lastly, the financial benefits bring in a sense of security as a whole, and a source of motivation in itself. Which aspect of design attracts you most? Mangesh: Execution of the ideas and bringing the vision as imagined by the client to real life brings in a sense of satisfaction and attracts me the most. The design, the ideas, and whatever is there in our mind that we desire to execute accurately on-site is the toughest part of my job and requires to be done with utmost sincerity. What do you do to keep your knowledge about the latest industry trends up to date? 11
SOURANSHI MAGAZINE | THE NEW WAVE | MARCH-MAY 2022 Mangesh: I keep myself updated about the latest designs by following different social media platforms. I maintain a good rapport with all my suppliers who bring in excellent material and new ideas in light and make it possible to apply them to my designs. I also have subscribed to various magazines that provide knowledge about the latest trends in the market.
Understanding their requirements and expectations, coming up with a blueprint that suits their preference, and ultimately executing the plan while keeping everything within the given budget are certain challenging aspects for me. Working in the interior design industry demands your 100% effort and the same can leave a big impact on your personal life. How do you balance your personal and professional life?
According to you, how had interior design evolved over the years? Mangesh: I have seen many changes in this field over the years. I remember when I was a kid my father used to make designs on paper using a pencil and a few measurement tools. When I started, initially I used to draw on paper and had limited measurement and designing tools. Now we have many applications, electronic instruments like iPad or Design pad, and innovative measurement tools which help us to work on the design and visualize more effectively.
Frankly, I never thought about it until now. I met my wife, a doctor, during one of my interior projects. We were working on the interior of a hospital and she worked in the same hospital. We are well versed about the dedication that our job requires. We try to take out time for each other and manage the household together. I must say, matrimony is a team effort and for our team, everything is turning out just fine. What advice would you give to the aspirants who want to join this industry? Mangesh: There are a lot of promising opportunities in the field of Interior Designing. The enriching exposure that one gets in the field is really an attraction. The projects can get a bit challenging and engaging which is an advantage and helps us grow in various ways. The field of Interior Designing brings in the entrepreneurship potential inside a person. It’s a very satisfying profession when it comes to designing the thoughts of a client. All characteristics of an individual as a whole are tested in such a profession to bring out the best possible outcome that drives you towards your goals.
In your opinion, what are the most important characteristics of an interior designer? Mangesh: An interior designer requires a calm, calculative creative mind that keeps the imagination alive. Resilience is the most important characteristic that must be developed. Leadership quality is indeed required for getting the work done on time and as required. The quality to win clients' hearts to choose us among all competitors in the market and satisfy them with the best work possible, I believe every designer must possess this quality. Every designer has some design style that they incorporate into every work they do. What is your signature design style? I like to give a traditional Indian touch to each design which has become my style. Depending upon the requirement of the client, we try to incorporate subtle cultural aspects into the modern contemporary interior. I also try to keep minimal furniture and infuse the design with natural ventilation and light in the home. What is the most challenging aspect of being in this industry as an Interior designer? We work with clients belonging to diverse cultural backgrounds and unique personalities. 12

“My only focus and dream in life are to make my parent’s proud and work extremely hard to make Sheyam a big label, and along with it take my parent’s name to greater heights.”, says Charvi Agarwal, the founder of Sheyam. Like any parents who wish to name their child after the person they love and respect, Charvi also wanted to name the brand after the people she loves the most; the people who have always been a great support system for her and everything she has ever wished to achieve in her life. Her Parents. “SHEYAM is a ship named after my father Ghanshyam Agarwal and my mother Sheetal Agarwal, my pillars of strength”, Charvi says. Based in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, the brand was launched on 17th Oct 2020 and deals in all kinds of bags and clutches. When the Pandemic knocked, Charvi, 22, found herself without any work. Like always, she shared her concerns with her father and that's when she came up with the idea of selling bags. “During that discussion, 21

I came to know about our family’s connection with bags. My Grandfather, Late Shri Magician Ram Bilas Agarwal, used to deal in the trading and manufacturing of handbags. He had a thorough understanding of materials and fabrics. I decided to carry on his legacy and that’s how Sheyam came into existence”, Charvi unfolds the idea behind Sheyam. Before becoming an independent entrepreneur, Charvi had worked with the Lakme Fashion week team as a volunteer, and she has also received accolades in the art and designing fields. “The experiences from my education and volunteering for the Lakme team and my inclination towards arts and design have enriched my awareness of bag business”, she explains.
Founder: Charvi Agarwal
Sheyam, an online shopping brand, is accessible to customers across the nation and the company is planning to expand it to the international market.
“Initially, we marketed our products only on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp”, Charvi reminisces the startup story. “The brand and our products received a wonderful response and within a few months we started selling our products on different E-Commerce platforms.”
Charvi started promoting the bags designed by her on social media accounts which was the original promotion plan and the only source of marketing she had access to.
Operating from a studio set up in Jodhpur, Sheyam now participates in and organizes several exhibitions to promote the brand. A seller of a wide variety of bags, the brand hires labor from different places in the state of Rajasthan who handcraft the bags that are designed by Charvi. “We believe to employ local people who are unemployed and have basic knowledge about our Industry”, says Charvi. “As of now, we have hired only two full-time workers and we also hire a few women who work from their homes and are specialists in hand embroidery, stitching, cutting, etc”, she adds.
22
SOURANSHI MAGAZINE | THE NEW WAVE | MARCH-MAY 2022
Apart from employing the labor class, Charvi strives to achieve the best quality in the bags manufactured at Sheyam. She believes that the quality of any product is one of the most important factors for customer acquisition and customer satisfaction which is important for the brand. “Customer satisfaction is the most important thing for a brand to become successful”, she asserts. “We ensure that we understand customer’s expectations. Without satisfied customers, we will not have customer loyalty, without customers' loyalty, we won't have long team relationship with our customers”, she adds. Speaking further on the quality of bags, Charvi says, “We ensure the best quality during production. In case any customer is unsatisfied, we take the necessary steps to identify the issue and work on better communication between the brand and customers." Sheyam believes in creating the newest styles with
the best quality materials at reasonable prices and making them accessible for everybody. “We have always favored quality over quantity and we aim to build a brand name and loyal customers over anything else. Sheyam’s bags are meticulously handcrafted by skilled workers and are suitable for every occasion. Once you shop with us you will definitely come back again!!”, Charvi concludes firmly.

Bengal Looms is a USA-based online store specializing in Indian Handloom women’s wear including Saris, Dupattas, Kurtis, Nightwear, and Handmade Jewelry. Promoting the concept of Made-In-India while selling Indian products in the USA, Bengal Looms supports Indian weavers and artisans as well. In 2015, the Bengal Looms saree business started with a single website and now they have stores across various social platforms and Etsy.
Bengal Looms’ mission is to bring Indian Ethnic Wear to the international community around the world at affordable and reasonable pricing and in the process promote ‘Made-In-India’ handlooms globally to give Indian weavers a broader exposure to the world. We sell products across a wide variety of price ranges”, says Payal Dutta, the owner and the founder of Bengal Looms. Solely owned by Payal Dutta, Bengal Looms is a three-generation old extended family business, and the anecdote of its origin starts in the year 2005, shortly before Payal moved to Edison, New Jersey, the USA with her husband post their marriage. Payal grew up with some knowledge of the saree business. “My family has been in the saree business for three generations. My Grandfather and father started with a local saree shop called 'Ruplekha' in Kolkata sourcing a variety of Handloom Sarees from several small-scale saree weavers in Bengal” she says. In 2010, Payal went on to create a social media account on Orkut envisioning the global presence of the business and showcasing the ancestral business from back in India. With the cessation of Orkut in 2014, she realized the need for a broader platform and ampler online presence to provide convenient shopping experience to clients especially in North America. 27

“I was well-settled in the USA and I felt I could introduce the products beyond the shores of India. With this thought process, I came up with the idea of “Bengal Looms” in 2015 to showcase products of Bengal to the Indian diaspora in the USA and Canada.”, she says. Payal started with a mere capital of $500 and within a year the business grew beyond just Bengal products. “I then introduced products from Banaras, Kanchipuram, Gujarat, Assam, etc. to promote weavers from all over India.”, she adds.
Bengal Looms offers a wide range of Sarees from various parts of India including Bengal Handlooms, Banarasi, Kanjivaram, Orissa Saree, Assam Saree, and Cotton Saree, Linen Saree, Silk Sarees, Party Wear Saris, Kurtis, Cotton Nightwear, Dupattas, Shawls, and Hand Made Jewelry. In 2017, a sister company “Bengal Looms India” was formed with a vision to increase the international presence of the company. Based in Kolkata, this new venture is supervised by Payal’s brother and thrives to build a selling platform based in India that can ship the products across the globe. Being a family-owned business, promoting the company and advertising its products is Payal’s and her husband’s responsibility. An IT professional, Payal’s husband takes care of all the SEOs of the website, Google Ads & Analytics accounts, etc. while Payal takes care of all the advertising on social media platforms in addition to her curating the procurement of the products and its sales.

The hottest season of the year has started and unlike the season’s favorite fruit, Mango, it’s nowhere near sweet. On the contrary, the singeing sun squeezes the interest of indulging in any fun activity. The season also brings along another hot yet happening and most important occasion for many individuals. The wedding season. Summer is a wonderful season for organizing weddings. The season opens up countless opportunities for the bride and groom to try out. Starting from the venue, outfit, accessories, decoration, etc., you get access to amazing ideas to choose from. Nonetheless, the wedding outfit and the accessories are top among the other priorities of the bride and groom. There are thousands of options to consider including the designs, the materials, the intricacy of the work, and the color of the outfit and accessories. It's a maze where you might feel lost and seek some guidance.

# Choose the right fabric There are numerous materials to consider for summer wedding outfits for the bride as well as the groom. The brides must go for cotton, georgette, crepe, organza, taffeta, and net. These fabrics are breathable and enable the bride to carry the lehenga for long hours.

While sherwani is the obvious choice for a guy's big day, the fabric plays a major role in keeping you cool despite the nervousness of the event and the hotness of the atmosphere. Natural fabrics like raw silk, tussar silk, pure silk, chanderi, and jamdani, are a big yes. The regular 3-piece is another option you might want to consider.
# Ditch the heavy work

The Groom must choose an outfit having subtle designs. Simple flower-bootie embroidered sherwani, for example, will give a classy and fresh look on a hot summer day. 32

You would want to keep the designs on your wedding outfit to a minimum. The gotta Patti work, light thread embroidery, and simple mirror work give a lehenga the required elegance for a summer wedding.

# Pastels are Fab Pastels are peaceful and calming, with a hint of romance in them, and reflect the essence of the occasion. For both, the bride and the groom, pastel color outfits will look much more elegant over bright and gaudy colors during a daytime wedding or at night-time nuptials as well.
# Minimal jewelry As the atmosphere would be already filled with excitement and natural heat, you would want to choose minimal statement pieces to match the outfit. Floral designs are going to be your best choice. A statement floral neckpiece, slick earrings, traditional Borla Matha Patti, light-weight bangles and kadhas would suffice the summer bridal look. A white gold chain would complement the Groom’s sherwani and is enough to complete his look.

# Footwear Indian wedding functions last for several days. You need to take care of your feet to keep up with the ongoing and never-ending rituals. Choose the footwear made with breathable material. Opentoe footwear would complement a pastel bridal lehenga. Breathable leather shoes are a wonderful choice for a groom and would complement a 3-piece suit. As juttis are a groom's best bet if you are planning to wear a sherwani, go for breathable socks to protect your feet.

# Make-up If you love the bright and shimmery make-up style, you would want to re-consider your preference just for this instance. Summers are not the seasons to go for bright colors. Subtle make-up or no-make-up make-up are the best choices for the season. The nude and light shades on the bride's lips, and classic tones like khols and light browns for eyeshadows would work best. Needless to say, the make-up must be waterproof and sweat-proof. Grooms have earned the luxury to relax in this department. 34

SOURANSHI MAGAZINE | THE NEW WAVE | MARCH-MAY 2022
The journey was a tough one for the founder as she had no experience in the buyer-seller business. “I was new to this field with no one to guide me. Though I always had my family’s moral and financial support, I had to make myself financially independent. I bought good quality women’s wear wholesale and started selling them from home”, Ezhil unfolds. Initially, the sales were nominal, barely covering the expenses. She started promoting her products using social media platforms and registered at marketplaces like Indiamart and Exporters India. Soon after, Exporters India approached Ezhil with an offer to create a website for Viraja Fashionista and asked for Rs. 10000/- as a fee for their services. “I agreed instantly.”, she admits. “They called again after half an hour and asked ₹35000 for google SEO also.” Ezhil was dumbfounded at the unreasonable offer and excessive charges. She refused the idea of creating a website at such high rates as she was new to the business world and didn’t earn enough. At the same time, she wanted to increase the market reach and get in touch with more customers. “I reached out to Exporters India’s sister concern weblinkindia.net and opted for an ecommerce website. And that’s how it started.”, she proudly says. Now Viraja Fashionista is Ezhil’s second daughter.

“It’s about perception. Sometimes we perceive design as a ten-headed demon. As we are close to the completion of a particular design aspect, a different dimension props up.”, says the co-founder, Mr. Baiju Baxi, who believes that the different design dimensions are as good as the different food cuisines and flavors around the world. “A true complete design is another version of justice done to the available space.” A company that now has a fully operational office at Lokhandwala Andheri west, with a vision of expanding globally, was once a freelancing firm with cafes as an office. “The dream of having one's own firm is absolutely intoxicating. Just the thought of establishing your own name and creating your own design was more than motivating.”, narrates Mr. Baxi.
