Jam-nut-bean, a local illustration group, where highly passionate (almost “nuts”) individuals (i.e.“beans”) collaborate together (i.e.“Jam”) to create uniquely fused tastes. Always “Believing in the Collective”, we mix our skills and styles to create distinctive works that are energy-lifting and sweet, with aim to generate new thoughts and perspectives.

Lam Pei is the illustrator and the founder of Sugar Ink Company, who is based at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre in Shek Kip Mei, Hong Kong since 2008, mainly focusing on illustration and designing characters in the licensing industry.

PREFACE I 序言一 A person who loves to draw and create has a heart that is full of colours and joy. Life is like a blank piece of paper, when you start to add colour to it, life starts to change. I love orange, because it represents light and warmth. I hope that my life can bring light to people who need a little bit of warmth. I first learnt about IllusfairHk via Facebook and was thinking if I would join or attend. It was then that I received, by pleasant surprise, an invitation from Cindy Yuen (organizer of the fair) to be speaker of the event. I thought that is fate and honour for me to be a guest and a speaker for their activities at IllusfairHk. Through time, I get to understand why they are hosting this event. They want to use this festival to deepen the understanding between participating illustrators themselves and allow the public to know more about illustration in Hong Kong. I hope that there will be more commercial organizations in Hong Kong supporting this event and rise the respect of the overall industry. Original art and design is Hong Kong’s most valuable and proud industry, but it seems to have been left out in the past decade. I hope that through this group of young, passionate creators with dreams and hopes, they can unite and build a creative and healthy platform, which will allow the public to see what’s illustrations are really about.

illusfairHK is an art festival that allows the colours of illustrators to flourish. It brings together expert and emerging illustrators and create an open platform to communicate. It brings together diversified original styles, showcasing infinite creative possibilities. It lets the public recognize the market value of illustrators, thus gaining recognition and support for the overall illustration industry.

Behind illusfairHK is Cindy Yuen, members Jamnut-bean and other illustrators, who together, conceived and planned this festive event. Their preparation lasted a whole year and have resulted in participation of over 80 illustrators. The art festival is now on! To me, their selfless dedication and meticulous attitude are really admirable.

In the seminar, Steve will share his experience of working as a picture book illustrator and developing his personal work. Steve’s work portrayed his personal experiences and development. THE CREATION OF PICTURE BOOKS - “OLD SHOP STORIES” AND “ONCE UPON A TIME IN TAI KWUN” 《老店風情畫》及《大館時代曲》插畫書創作歷程 Introduction of the Seminar / 講座簡介
In a form of memoir, Flyingpig’s first picture book “Old Shop Stories” summarised her four-year sketching and commemorating the old shops’stories. “Once Upon a Time in Tai Kwun” is Flyingpig’s second picture book published in 2018. With comprehensive research and editing, she reconstructed the stories about the community in Central during the 1960s. Both of the books are portrayals of a period of time. However, the approaches are different. Flyingpig is an illustrator who is interested in creating artworks about the city and the community. Her first picture book about traditional local shops at Hong Kong is published in 2016. Her second book “Once Upon a Time in Tai Kwun” is published in 2018. Isabel Tong has shown great interest in fashion design and illustration at an early age. After winning the Avant Garde Group and the Most Creative Award in the Young Fashion Designers Contest launched by HKTDC, she started her career as a sportswear designer. In 2013, she achieved a Master Degree in Design Strategies at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Isabel created her own label ISATISSE after graduation. 湯欣樂從小對藝術有濃厚興趣。在不同的時裝比賽獲獎後便開始從事運 動服裝設計師。2013年在香港理工大學設計系碩士畢業後開設了自家品 牌ISATISSE，在PMQ 元創坊, D2 PLACE, PINKOI及各大小市集有售。

Walking together hand in hand with a harmonious, precious, beautiful universe.
