EDITOR’S NOTE Welcome to this school year’s first issue of Illustrate magazine! My name is Sophie and I’ll be your editor this year, and it is my plan to use this magazine to draw attention to the wonderful artwork created by students here at VSAA. This magazine is an outlet for creativity, and a platform for visual art of all kinds, and I hope that students from all levels will submit their work. Sharing art with peers is a difficult thing to do, and as editor of the magazine I seek to encourage an environment where all levels of art are accepted and praised. It is a privilege to be this year’s editor, and I look forward to all of the challenges I will face, art I will help showcase, and creating for my audience. - Sophia Oakley 6

EBIE KATZENMEYER Grade 11, VA Level 2/3
Meaning - I’d just had the unfinished drawing in my sketchbook that I had wanted to complete. I’ve been really interested in the cosmic entity/horror genre recently, and I’ve seen a lot of concept art about the topic that had me excited to try my hand at it. Truthfully, I intended the character to come across as vague and without representation of a singular theme.
