NUTRITION CORNER Malnutrition incidence drops in Vigan VIGAN CITY - The malnutrition incidence posted a significant decrease for school children and 0- 6 year old children categories in Vigan City this year due to continued intensified implementation of nutrition programs in its barangays and schools, according to the City’s Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO).

CNAO Pamela Balangue disclosed that their latest nutrition evaluation in the city showed that the malnutrition rate for school children category has been lowered into 7.72% from the 15.56% rate last June 2009.

For 0-6 year old children category, the malnutrition rate was reduced to 3.94% from the 3.97% rate last June 2009.

Apart from this development, Balangue said that the city government led by Mayor Eva Marie Singson Medina is continuously heading towards the attainment of the zero malnutrition incidences as soon as possible.

Such programs being implemented by the city government to eradicate malnutrition are: feeding program, bio-intensive gardening, mother class for healthy lifestyles, intensified IEC campaign on nutrition and healthy lifestyles, feed supplements, search for best school garden and most nutri – functional school canteen and among others.
