RNC spearheads meeting with nutrition action officers SAN FERNANDO CITY The Regional Nutrition Committee held its first meeting with the provincial and city nutrition action officers at the Gualberto’s Complex here last January 26, 2011 to resolve health and nutrition issues and concerns.

The meeting, spearheaded

by DOH-CHD I Director and RNC Chairman Valeriano V. Lopez, Jr. with the National Nutrition Council, Regional Office I as secretariat, headed by Nutrition program coordinator Victoria N. Mañez, was attended by member agencies of the RNC including the provincial and city nutrition action officers (P/ CNAOs) of Region I. The meeting tackled issues about the Regional Nutrition Action Plan Framework for 2011-2013 in line with the goals of MTPPAN 2011-2016 and the NNC secretariat strategic plan.

In introducing the I-Rice or Iron Fortified Rice (IFR) Program of NFA, Regional Director Danilo I. Pastrana said this is in accordance to the Republic Act No. 8976, “The Philippine Food Fortification Act of 2000”, an act establishing the Philippine food fortification program and for other purposes.

Pastrana emphasized that I-Rice is intended to address the issue on micronutrient deficiency that the country is experiencing.
