Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks and distributed them to those who were seated. He did the same with the fish and gave them as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten enough, he told his disciples, “Gather up the pieces left over, that nothing may be lost.”

So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with bread, that is with pieces of the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.

When the people saw this sign that Jesus had just given, they said, “This is really the Prophet, he who is to come into the world.” Jesus realized that they would come and take him by force to make him king; so he fled to the hills by himself.

Reflections This Sunday begins five weeks of consecutive readings from Chapter Six of the Gospel of St. John. This chapter is known for its Eucharistic emphasis, for it begins with this account of the multiplication of loaves and fish and continues with our Lord’s famous “Bread of Life” discourse.

From the five loaves and two fish brought by a young boy Jesus provides a banquet requiring twelve baskets for all of the leftovers. In a manner foreshadowing His institution of the Holy Eucharist, Jesus takes a bread, blesses and breaks it and distributes it to the crowd. Just as Jesus nourished the crowd with His powerful, heartfelt teaching, so too would He feed them with the bread that satisfied their bodily hunger.

What Jesus did for the large crowd He continues to do for us. Every time we participate in the Holy Eucharist we are nourished from the Lord’s two-fold table. We experience the substantial presence of the Lord through the table and altar of His sacrificial banquet. How blessed we are to participate in so great a feast. On the other hand, plaintiffs Gloria Arconado and Fe Arconado are the owners of a parcel of residential and agricultural land, which adjoins on the Western side of defendant Alejandrino Samoranos’ land described in the immediately preceding paragraph, and which is more particularly described as follows; “A parcel of land situated in Turod, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, designated as Lot No.1360 with improvement thereon, and bounded as follows: North by Lot No. 1354; on the South by Lot No.1363; on the East by Lot No. 1359; and on the West by Lot No. 1361. It has a market value of Php 929.83 and Php 81,000.00.

It is declared for taxation purposes in the names of Gloria Arconado and Fe Arconado under Tax Dec. No. 92-033-00316.”

A copy of said Tax Dec. No. 92-033-00316 in the name of the plaintiffs is hereto attached as ANNEX “B” and made an integral part hereof.

5. Sometime in February 2009 the plaintiffs learned that defendant Samoranos sold, ceded and conveyed his above-described 3,324.5 square-meter agricultural land to defendants Spouses Ragunton for the sum of THIRTY THOUSAND PESOS (Php 30,000.00).

A photocopy of the Deed of Absolute Sale is hereunto attached as ANNEX “C” and made an integral part; 6. Defendants Spouses Ragunton already own an agricultural land in the same place but which does not adjoin the above-described land of Defendant Samoranos; 7. Being the owners of the land that adjoins defendant Samorano’s land, the plaintiffs have the right of legal redemption over the said land of defendant Samoranos, pursuant Article 1621 of the Civil Code; 8. The matter was brought to the attention of the Barangay Officials of Turod, Narvacan,Ilocos Sur, concerning the plaintiffs’ right of legal redemption over the said property of defendant Samoranos, for mediation and conciliation. However, during the conference held on March 14, 2009 before the Barangay Officials, the defendants failed to appear despite due notice; 8. 1.Re-schedules of Barangay conference were made but to no avail due to the defendants’ repeated failure to appear. However, despite repeated request by the plaintiffs for issuance of a Certification to File Action, the Brgy. Captain of Turod, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, refused and still refuses to issue such a certification for reasons known only to her; 9. Up to the present time the plaintiffs have not been notified nor have received any written notice from the vendor, defendant Samoranos and/or the vendees, defendants Spouses Ragunton, relative to the sale of the subject 3,324.5 square-meter parcel of land, in order for the plaintiffs to exercise their right of legal redemption, as required under Article 1632 of the Civil Code; 10. The plaintiffs are willing, ready and able to exercise their right of legal redemption over the subject land for and this purpose they hereby consign and/or deposit with the Court the sum of THIRTY THOUSAND PESOS (Php 30,000.00) to redeem the land; 11.
