It will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt. For they broke my covenant although I was their Lord.

This is the covenant I shall make with Israel after that time: I will put my Law within them and write it on their hearts; I will be their God and they will be my people.

And they will not have to teach each other, neighbor or brother, saying: ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the greatest to the lowliest, for I will forgive their wrongdoing and no longer remember their sin.

2 nd Reading: Heb 5:7-9 Christ, in the days of his mortal life, offered his sacrifice with tears and cries. He prayed to him who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his humble submission. Although he was Son, he learned through suffering what obedience was, and once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for those who obey him.

With these words Jesus referred to the kind of death he was to die.

Reflections The Lenten scripture readings in last two weeks of the season draw us closer to the cross of Jesus. Today the Lord foretells not only the kind of death He was to die, but gives us great insight into the meaning of His life, death and resurrection. Like the buried seed, His death would hold the promise of resurrection and new life. By submitting to a most cruel and humiliating death, Jesus would take upon His own shoulders the weight of our sins and transgressions and open to us the gates of heaven. Never has the world known such unmerited, unconditional love. And when we draw near to the cross of Jesus through the holy sacrifice of the Mass we are embraced and renewed in that love.

We could do no better than to spend these last two weeks of Lent meditating upon the image of our crucified Lord, praying always that we might follow Him wherever He leads, being willing to serve and honor Him by our faithful stewardship of His abundant love. 5. Plaintiffs and their siblings were all born, raised and grew up within the premises of the property and ownership over said property dates back since time immemorial in open continuous and uninterrupted possession as evidenced by Tax Declaration nos. 002-00069, 4168-F, 54-E, 3689-D, 9876-C, and 4219-C, all in the name of Diosdado Calderon. Copies of these Tax Declarations are hereto attached and marked as Annexes “D”, “E”, “F”, “G”, “H”, respectively.

6. The said property has been acquired by the plaintiffs and their siblings through inheritance upon the death of their father Diosdado Calderon, Sr. who died intestate on June 22, 1985.

7. Upon the death of Diosdado Calderon, Sr., the said property has been transferred by operation of law to Deogracias Calderon, Dominador Calderon, Sancho Calderon, Diosdado Calderon, Jr., Resureccion C. Lauron, Rufina Brillo and Teresita Calderon, all of whom are compulsory heirs of Diosdado Calderon, Sr.; 8. Among the seven children of Diosdado Calderon, Sr. only herein plaintiffs Diosdado Calderon Jr., Resureccion Lauron and Rufina Brillo are alive, Deogracias, Dominador and Sancho all surnamed Calderon having died and Teresita Calderon as an absentee whose whereabouts is unknown up to this time; 9. With the said death of the other heirs, herein plaintiff Rufina C. Brillo executed a Deed of Adjudication, hereto attached and marked as Annex “J”, for herself and in behalf of her co-heirs, adjudicating unto them the property subject matter of this suit, by virtue thereof, the transfer of title in the name of the compulsory heirs is now under process.

12. That, in had faith, and despite knowledge that they have no legal right over the subject property, the defendants Calderon sold the property in favor of defendant Spouses Villaruz. On the other hand, the defendants Villaruz, with full knowledge that the defendants Calderon have no right whatsoever to the property, still bought the same. Being buyers in bad faith, the defendant Villaruz merely stepped into the shoes of the defendants Calderon and they acquired no better title than them; 13. That the defendants Calderon sold the property in the amount of TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS (P200,000.00) in favor of the defendants Villaruz as evidenced by copy of the Deed of Sale dated October 18, 2004 which is hereto attached and made an integral part hereof of Annex “L”; 14. On several occasions particularly on October 25, and 26, a certain Gani Billena with unnamed companies claiming to have been ordered by defendant Danilo Villaruz, unlawfully intruded into the premises of the said property and caused vexation and intimidation unto the pupils who were having classes at that time as the residential building thereto has been already utilized as a Day Care Center; forcibly destroyed the padlock of the gate, uprooted plants and cut branches of a chico tree inside the premises. A certification by the Philippine National Police, Santa Police Station relative to the said incident is hereto attached and marked as Annex “M”, “N”, “O” and “P”, respectively.

15. That the defendant Municipal Assessor of Santa, Ilocos Sur, on the other hand, had issued a Tax Declaration (T.D. No. 002-00071) in the name of Sancho Calderon without any legal basis whatsoever. The said Tax Declaration is now casting a dark cloud upon the title and rights of ownership, possession and enjoyment of plaintiffs and their property and which Tax Declaration must be cancelled or corrected and removed soonest to clear and quiet the plaintiffs’ title and rights over the subject property; 16. Due to the malicious, unwarranted and unlawful acts of the defendants, plaintiffs incurred and suffered and still continue to suffer, actual monetary expenses, wounded feelings, sleepless nights, extreme anxiety for which reason they are entitled to be awarded moral and consequential damages in the amount of not less than TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS (Php200,000.00); 17.
