Winter Pampering Ideas Ofuroya – Japanese Bath House

Tradition is taken very seriously in Japan and nowhere more so than their bath houses. Designed to alleviate everyday stress, they were originally used as community meeting places to exchange news and it was only in the 19th century that the sexes were separated. Opened in July 1999 the Melbourne Japanese Bath House offers a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere where you can experience a traditional Japanese bath and enjoy a calming shiatsu acupressure massage afterwards. Visit on your own to unwind or come with a group of friends for a relaxing catch up. Covering two levels the actual baths are wider and deeper than western baths and have a cosy temperature of 40-41c. The wooden themed bath is on the upper level while downstairs has the stone themed bath, plus there are also male and female saunas on each level. If you have a bit of time on your hands and are looking to get out of Melbourne, there is also the Japanese Guest House which is situated only forty five minutes from Melbourne in the lush surrounds of Healesville. For something a little different and to escape the winter blues, you can always experience a little bit of what Japan has to offer right here at home.
