The Great Race Gets Motors Running
The highlight of the year has come again for Motorsport fans – “The Great Race” has motors running in Bathurst, and almost 200,000 fans have made it to Mount Panorama to witness the excitement as Holden takes on Ford at speeds of over 300km/h once more. Anticipating excitement and rivalry at break-neck speed, V8 Supercar fans are primed for what is probably their biggest weekend of the year. Dreaming of a finish to rival last year’s nail-biting fight to the end, which saw Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife complete the 1000kms in the shortest time ever, passing the finishing line just 0.173 seconds ahead of team mates Jamie Whincup and Steve Owen, fans are no doubt hoping for an average speed of 160km/h from the winners again too. Considered Australia’s most popular endurance race, the Bathurst 1000 has long been the province of the most skilled and brilliant drivers, which is why hundreds of thousands of motor enthusiasts will be celebrating the day and gathering to watch the event as the victors make history after a gruelling 161 laps of the Mount Panorama Circuit.
