Presidents Cup 2011

Royal Melbourne Welcomes Golfing Greats

The 9th Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club will be a week of excellent golfing from 24 of the best golfers in the world. Privileged to be the first golf course outside the United States to host the prestigious biennial event for a second time, Royal Melbourne has seen two teams of 12 golfers, one drawn from the United States and the other from the rest of the world, except Europe, pitted against each other in pursuit of the coveted cup. With Greg Norman in charge of the Internationals, and Fred Couples captaining the US team, the competition is one of the most watched golfing events on the calendar. The Internationals have only managed one outright victory so far, when the event was last held at Royal Melbourne in 1998, and are hungrier than ever for success. However, regardless of who takes home the cup, the greatest good the event brings about is the raising of millions of dollars for charities elected by the players, who are unpaid and play for no prize money, to support people and communities in need.
