Melbourne Winter Masterpieces Experience The Transformation Of Vienna

Continuing the prestigious and popular series of Melbourne Winter Masterpieces, the National Gallery of Victoria this year brings us, “Vienna: Art & Design: Klimt, Schiele, Hoffmann, Loos”. Open daily until the 9th of October, this exclusive exhibition showcases over 250 works of art, including paintings, textiles, jewellery, fashion, decorative art, furniture and photography from Austria’s finest artists of the early 1900s. Doubling as part of the NGV’s 150th birthday celebrations, this extraordinary exhibition marks the first time such a comprehensive display of Viennese art from the turn of the 20th Century has been exhibited in the Southern Hemisphere. The collection presents an exclusive opportunity to gain insight into the artistic revolution and transformation taking place in the Viennese art world at the time. Giving emphasis to the ‘Vienna Secession Movement’, the exhibition demonstrates the artistic quest for a new style seeking to break away entirely from tradition, the fruits of which hold many parallels to today’s contemporary art and design.
