The Other Oval Ball Sports

Whilst the heartland of rugby league and rugby union lies further north than Victoria, passionate reactions to the events of last year have proven that there’s growing support here for rugby, with followers of Melbourne Storm in the NRL, and the selfproclaimed “best provincial competition in the world” in Super Rugby. On the international stage we’ll be sending a team to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup in September and October, but there will be plenty of action in other competitions before that. Looking to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of last year’s salary cap disaster, Melbourne Storm will play 9 of their first 13 matches at home at AAMI Park in the NRL, beginning with a game against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles on the second weekend in March. We also have the recently formed Melbourne Rebels rugby union team playing several home games in the Super Rugby competition, also at AAMI Park, against competitors from New Zealand, South Africa and other states and territories of Australia. The first of these encounters takes place on February 18th against the Waratahs.
