Interest rates are once again the hot topic of conversation and now that we’re seeing rates come down, it’s a good time to revisit your current borrowings and make sure you’ve got the very best deal.

The perennial debate around fixed or variable interest rate loans is another factor to consider now that rates are trending downwards. With financial forecasters tipping subsequent cuts, consider carefully before fixing rates.

Sometimes people have loans with a number of financial providers, and choosing to consolidate these loans while the mortgage market is competitive, can pay off. Since the mortgage market has slowed fierce competition amongst the major lenders has them offering attractive enticements to capture new business and if you’re not inclined to shop around for a better deal yourself, it could be worth your while to put the services of a suitably qualified broker to work for you - at no cost to yourself.

Lastly, as tempting as it may be to reduce your repayments in line with the rate cut, it makes good financial sense to leave repayments unchanged in order to reduce your capital.
