Although the Reserve Bank has kept interest rates on hold for eleven consecutive months, financial markets are factoring in an interest rate drop by 1.25% over the next 12 months. This is great news for home buyers. Already, many of the major lenders have acted independently to lower the rates on fixed-rate home loans in order to compete for mortgage market share. The next move by banks may be to lower variable home loan rates ahead of the Reserve Bank to further stimulate lending in an otherwise weak home loan market.

Taking all this into consideration, we’ll likely see a drop of 0.25% in interest rates prior to Christmas, which will bring welcome relief to home buyers and some joy to retailers. With plenty of quality properties on the market as we head towards the end of the year, this latest news on interest rates will give property buyers the opportunity to buy with confidence.
