Units Prices are on Fire Auction results over the last five weekends have shown a spike in prices for units and flats in the Inner West. Whilst the residential home market has remained unchanged over the last few months, it’s the price increase of 11.5% in units over the six months which continues to surprise us.

Typical of the surge in demand was the excellent result in March of the two bedroom unit at Unit 1/88 The Avenue in Spotswood. Nicely renovated with one car space, it sold for $373,000 in front of a crowd of 55 people with four bidders pushing the price some $30,000 over the reserve. This time last year the same unit would have sold for around $310,000. The entry price into our local market is always lifting and with Interest Rates on hold, it continues to drift higher. Young first home buyers and investors are set to continue to push demand higher for units and flats in the Inner West in 2011.
