I’M: Tu as été sélectionnée pour l’émission «“The

J’aime me transformer.
I’M: Tu as un créateur de mode préféré? J’aime beaucoup Barilà et Denis Gagnon. I’M: Pour faire du shopping, tu aimes mieux New York ou Paris?

stéphanie bédard it has to be upbeat! English text
- Translated from French By José Bélanger
From the Editor Claude Bélanger
S
My songs have to represent the two sides of my personality.
he’s beautiful, talented, full of energy and charisma. Stéphanie was spending her time between Montreal and Paris for several months because of “The Voice” in France. Stéphanie is back in Montreal and she is currently working on an album expected for Spring 2013. I’M Image Magazine met her for a fabulous fashion photoshoot! Stéphanie, tell us a little of your beginnings in show business: how it all started, your dreams, your goals…
I have been singing since I was two! My mother used to record me singing Stevie Wonder’s songs with a mish-mash that sounded like English! (Laughs) I had no idea, when I was little, that singing could be a trade or I barely realised that

singing contest, but because “The Voice” was in a new country for me, it has this special meaning. I could truly be myself. France had never given me any label, so I was free to show them what I was all about. Did this experience change your life? It did change my life in that I now know what I want about my future and, definitely, what I don’t want anymore in this career that I hope to be as long as possible! What inspires you? Are there artists who inspire you more than others?
I could eventually earn money singing. I always sang at home. I also used to design clothes and would play architect with the school’s architecture software, but I truly found my way when I sang in front of my classmates in a music class… I then realised that I could actually earn a living singing and that’s what I’ve been doing ever since…
I really like strong headed singers. You’ll tell me that singers ALL have strong characters, but, oh well! (laughs) Among others, I enjoy Gwen Stefani. I quite admire the woman she’s becoming. I love artists who write their own material or who are involved early on in the creative process, a little like Ariane Moffatt.
You were chosen as a contestant for “The Voice” in France. How was it?
It has to be upbeat, but also needs to include a few insightful songs… My songs have to represent the two sides of my personality.
This was my second TV
What would be a Stéphanie Bédard’s album be like?
I’M Image Magazine September 2012
You definitely have an interesting look with your red hair and an unusual hairdo. As an artist in the music industry, what is, in your mind, the importance of the image you project? Image is part of the branding of each artist. As an artist, I have to think about my looks and at least have an idea of how I want to be represented physically. Whether I want or not, the outer shell is important whatever the industry. I personally love playing with my appearance. I like to transform myself. My red head is a nice representation of who I am. Actually, I’m a bit of a madwoman, just like my hair. This particularity also has people remember me a lot easier, which makes it easier for me to become more established in the business. Do you follow fashion trends? Do you think that your appearance should be as polished as the music you do? I follow some fashion trends, but I also like to make my own. That’s what makes fashion fun. I know what the trends are, but I can choose to follow them or not… or www.imimagemagazine.com
change them to fit my own perspective.
27
In your day-to-day life, do you have a particular style? Are you more a jeans/t-shirt person or a designer-clothes fashionista? It all depends on my mood. On some days, I’m definitely a jeans/t-shirt person. On others, I wear Québec designer clothes. Actually, for these types of clothes, I go on chicane. com. It is a virtual retailer that also has an actual store where they keep a lot of Québec designers clothing. It is important for me to encourage people from this part of the world. Do you have a favourite designer? I really like Barilà and Denis Gagnon. For your shopping, do you prefer New York or Paris? I didn’t have too much time to shop in Paris as our schedule was so busy, but Paris being an international fashion city, it is certainly a place worth shopping in! A fashion photo-shoot is something that you like a little… a lot… passionately?
I love to change and embrace different
attitudes for a photo-shoot. I have many friends who are photographers, make-up artists and hairstylists with whom I love to play with my appearance. It’s with them that I got to accept my body features and to better understand body language… It is amazing to see how a simple look in the eye can change the rendering of a picture. It fascinates me!
Is an album with your own songs in the process soon, shortly, or are you recording now? What style can we expect?
I should be working on my album at the beginning of September. It is expected to come out in Spring 2013. I’d love for it to include a lot of guitars… it has to be upbeat!
“As an artist, I have to think about my looks and at least have an idea of how I want to be represented” physically.
