Kershaw Dominates On June 18, 2014, 26 year-old Clayton Kershaw was near perfect as he pitched a complete game no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies and struck out a career high 15 batters. He is the only pitcher in MLB history with 15 strikeouts in a game while allowing no hits and no walks. The lefty is almost a lock to win another Cy Young award as he posted a record of 21-3 with an ERA of 1.77. His 21 victories lead the league, despite the fact that he missed the first month of the season with an injury.
Mike Trout MVP-to-be?
Jeter Retires
Mike Trout enjoyed another great campaign in 2014 as he set career highs in homeruns and runs batted in. Having come second in voting the previous two seasons, he finally stands to win the American League MVP award.
After 19 incredible seasons in the MLB, future hall-of-famer Derek Jeter has called it a career. The five time World Series champion and New York Yankees captain announced at the start of the 2014 season that it would be his last.
One of the most likeable players in the game among not only fans but his peers as well, Jeter has left his mark on the game. As with most aging players, Jeter was not quite the player that he once was. Many traditionalists called for him to be benched as his play slipped and the Yankees continued to try to finish with a spot in the MLB playoffs. Jeter, however, rarely sat out as his team continued tobattle for the final spot. Yankee fans were treated to one last Jeteresqe moment as he hit a walkoff single in extra innings during his final home game before a packed stadium. There’s no doubt Jeter will stay in the game in some capacity, what it will be, we shall see.

Detriot’s fate may have ultimately been decided by a shakey bullpen which game up over 15 runs in less than 4 innings.
