Project Briefs For project one, each student was assigned a specific cabin and tasked with the challenge of recreating it. Rhino 6 was used to 3-D Model the cabin and Adobe Indesign was used to create the drawings, with Adobe Photoshop playing a role in editing both mediums. The focus of this project was mainly to improve digital skillsets and learn how to properly create a layout for an architectural competition board. For project two, each person was assigned a specific codex and had to design a structure where someone woud go to read the codex. The space was to be small enough to fit within an urban environment and was specifically for one person to experience at a time. The codex for this specific project was the archicomic,“Yes Is More” by Bjarke Ingles and it focuses on the evolution of architecture as well as how best to present the architectural design process to the public. The final design attempted to replicate the architect’s design process as moement through different layers of the building until you reach the final room or “codex space” of the structure. For project three, the knowledge accumulated over the semester about the rowhouses in Philadelphia (specifically Sharswood) was used to design a rowhouse for a specific client (or clients) according to their individual needs. The space for the rowhouse was already a lot in Sharswood, where another rowhouse currently sits and the clients were a small family of three with a frequently visiting inlaw. The final design payed close attention to the client’s needs and desires as well as the restrictions of the zoning codes of the site. For project four, the challenge was to design a community center for the community of Sharswood at the existing site of the Dox Thrash House and neighboring lots. The main restriction was that original fascades of the Dox Thrash House and twin rowhouse had to be preserved at all costs. The community center is to function as a multi-educational space for the community and might become a reality sometime in the future. The final

SUN FLOW DIAGRAM

Sunset Cabin is located in McConnells Mills State Park, Pennsylvania because of the park’s many large rock outcroppings that overlook the creek and mimic the original site. The cabin was designed to be a primitive place where its inhabitances could come to watch the sunset Small but cozy, it’s one room contains a bed with built-in shelves, two closets and a woodburning stove. It also has a green roof decorated with sedums and herbs which cameoflauges it from above. The wooden slats that encase the cabin form unique shadows when touched by the sunlight and at night the cabin acts as a lighthouse, illuminated from within.
