The Brief
Food Photography Branding
Brand Louise Monk, food photographer. 'Professional but relaxed and chilled'
Other branding varied but they were pretty simple and didn’t really stand out. There photos did but there brand image was weak and didn’t really have much flare or dominance.
Research I started off looking at how other photography branding is approached. Although they all varied massively in style the key way people made a logo was using the initials. Therefore I did not want to go down the route and create something more unique.
Research I looked as visuals and icons for food for inspiration. My key concern was to not do cliché photography branding and not do cliché food. I also looked at photography of food. The main thing that stuck out to me was the textures and patterns that were within the items of food or how it was displayed.
During my sketches I expanded upon the visuals to photography icons either the shape of the camera as a whole or aspects. I looked at the form created by a person using a camera as I considered transforming the letter 'K' into an image. I made a few of my sketches digitally but I didn’t feel it was right for her personality.

Typeface After little success with my initial ideas I decided that the iconary wasn’t the strongest way to approach it. The strongest idea was playing on the sound ‘mmm’ with her surname initial so I decided to run with this. I tested loads of fonts but I wanted something clean and stripped back so the focus was on the ‘mmm’.
It worked better with sans serif than serif so eventually I chose the best one and developed it further playing with composition, wording and imagery. I then discussed this with Louise getting feedback on a selected few I gave her to choose from.

LOUISE MMMONK In Context When speaking to Louise I showed her how the logo could potentially look over the use of her photography. From this we discussed the idea and she offered her preference in which I then developed into new ideas which she chose from to help form the final logo.

Display After creating the final logo I gave her styling options of how it could be used in context say on a business card or online. She said she preferred it over the image by itself rather than encased in box.
Final Design The final logo is simple, clean and has a hint of character by playing on the sound of eating good food. This incorporates her choice of photography as well as present her as a working professional. I then went with this aesthetic to adapt her website so it was all unifying under the same identity.
This brief meant working with a different kind of creative where we could aid each others work as well as use our personal skill sets to help one another. I enjoyed working with Louise and learnt a lot in the process. It was good to get feedback from a client throughout the whole process and I think it led to a clearly executed final result that was appropriate and successful.
