Lews Castle - Route Planner

Page 1

With the Outer Hebrides consisting of an archipelago of beautiful islands, access to our luxury accommodation at Lews Castle by its very nature involves crossing the Scottish waters. There are a few options guests can choose when making their way North, so our team have created a handy summary of our most popular ways to travel below.

For guests looking to travel from mainland Scotland to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis (Lews Castle’s closest ferry port), Caledonian MacBrayne (or Calmac!) are the main provider of ferry passages and a great starting point to plan your journey. When travelling from mainland Scotland, guests can catch the Calmac at Ullapool which sails directly to Stornoway (which is then a short 1.5 mile drive to Lews Castle). Alternatively they can board at Uig on the Isle of Skye, which will take them to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris. From Tarbert you can drive up through Harris, then Lewis, to reach the castle (approximately 45 minutes).

For those not wishing to take their own car up to the Outer Hebrides, there are a range of flight routes to Stornoway Airport from the mainland, with ‘Scotland’s Airline’; LoganAir. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness all offer direct flights to Stornoway, as well as onward journeys and connecting flights to a multitude of other UK airports. With a warm welcome awaiting in the (tiny!) Stornoway Airport, guests can then easily make their way to Lews Castle which is just a 10 minute drive away. There are various car hire companies available at the airport all of which can be found on Google, or by contacting our Concierge Team.
