H.M. the King mercifully designated H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakkri Sirindhorn to perform the official inauguration ceremony of the University and the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Centre, and to confer degrees upon the first graduates of the university, class 2003 on the third of February 2004.

However, the draft charter was not processed because the parliament was dissolved.

The Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center The Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center is a gift from The Peopleûs Republic of China as part of Her Royal Highness Princess Motherûs Centenary birthday anniversary, to symbolize the on-going and long lasting friendship and goodwill cherished by the people of two countries. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakkri Sirindhorn kindly perform a foundation-stone laying ceremony on Saturday the ninth of December 2000. The construction commenced on Saturday the twenty ninth of December 2001 and was completed in early August 2002. On the third of February 2004, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakkri Sirindhorn on behalf of His Majesty the King kindly presided over the official inauguration ceremony of the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center. The Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center was constructed in a typical Chinese architectural style, with a Se Zhou style garden, designed and supervised by Chinese architects and engineers provided by the Chinese government. The Center boasts a utility area of approximately 1,100 square meters. The Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center commenced its teaching mission in close collaboration with the government of the Peopleûs Republic of China. Instructors and teaching aids of various types weredelivered to Mae Fah Luang University to initiate Chinese-language courses and also training courses for Chinese-language teachers from all parts of the country. In addition to maintaining excellent understanding between the citizens of the two countries, the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center, in due course, shall extend its teaching mission to serve countries in the Greater Mekhong Subregion.
