The Year in Pictures magazine is a collection of the best images taken by our photojournalists around South Africa in 2021. This magazine features a collection of the big news events that played out around the country. A national lockdown was announced on March 26, 2020 to try to contain the spread of Covid-19. Our photojournalists were sent to the frontline to document this global pandemic. Since then, we have witnessed the destruction the pandemic has caused to businesses and the loss of lives, including in our own photographic family. This magazine is dedicated to our team member, Zanele Zulu, who died on September 18, 2021. She started her career in 2005. Over 16 years, Zanele captured stories through the lens of her camera. Zanele, your light will forever shine in our hearts and you will never be forgotten. 2021 was also one of the most volatile years of South Africa's democracy with the July unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng and our team was there to document the events that unfolded.
